EU III with Austria and France.

Well there's not enough Austria's out there, there one of my favorite historical powers of all time. Good luck and interesting layout format. Count me in, just remember to have France rule the seas and Austria the land and Europe will be split by two nations.

Teutonic Destruction 1469

Within a year the Teutonic Order was begging for mercy. I decided to cripple them for life. I took all of their terroritories except the capital of course. I ceded Riga, and decided to leave Pskov for the Russians. If they decide to declare war again, taking Ostpreussen will be a short order.

Austria had a few peasant uprisings at the conclusion of the Teutonic War, therefore I had an opportunity to change my sliders, and I moved it toward free subjects. I need to maintain harmony inside the empire.

In late 1470 I learned that both of the Cardinal's who reside inside my borders were influenced by Pommerania. I quickly dispatched a diplomat directly to them and insulted their leadership. I must be on guard however because they are allied with Brandenburg and Bavaria, two fairly formidable states.

I successfully put down peasant revolts in Warmia, Riga, Tirol and Salzburg. The rest of the five year term was marked by little else other than trying to improve my countries stability.

Period End Summary

Diplomacy - Military access gained from Lithuania. Military access granted to Poland and Lithuania, Wurtemburg, Venice, Bavaria

Land Gains/Losses - Riga, Warmia, Osel, Kurland, Memel, Wenden

Economic Improvements/Status - None

State Matters - I hired a new advisor (level 6), Leopold Mayer. He is skilled in the arts of diplomacy. I also moved my sliders toward free subjects. I also sent an insult to Pommerania.

Missionaries - None

Espionage - None

Colonial Adventures - None

Securing the Inside

Nothing has changed borderwise for the French. Due to my many successful battled with the Burgundian's I do however have a healthy stable of general's to use for future battles, and likley successive wars against the enemy to my north.

Burgundy-Switzerland War

Keeping a close eye on Burgundy they are now at war with Switzerland!! I guess its better to have them fighting each other than to have them fighting me.

Switzerland was able to quickly take over Savoy and they annexed it, but the Burgundian's were too strong for them and they eventually ceded Piedmont to them.

Austria is now tangling with the Ottoman Empire after the Ottoman's took a few territories north of Hungary. The Ottoman's took control of Wien and forced Austria to release Riga as an independent country

Austria then got itself into this mess. Luneberg made Saxony a vassal which is interesting because Saxony is much stronger than Lunberg is, and Austria controlled three of the Saxon provinces when the vassalization was made.

Here is what France looks like at the end of 1477. I was able to annex a few vassals and build workshops throughout the country.

You See What Had Happened Was...

Well in my attempts to take control of the center of my nation, add a few choice provinces and try to again move up the ladder of the HRE, I entered a royal marriage with Bavaria, and then an alliance.

Within days of our alliance, Bavaria declares war on Bohemia. I wasnt quite ready for the war, but it came anyway. I sent troops to Lausitz, Bohemia and Breslau while Bavaria too control of Plsen. I also dispatch about a dozen cavalry regiments to chase the fleeing Bohemians all over the map.

An unfortunate aspect of fighting Bohemia is that they were allied with Baden, who I have been sweet talking for years now.

Too bad for them ...... I took their one free province and now made them my vassals.

Meanwhile back in Bohemia.....

Third Burgundy

Maybe Bavaria just wanted to get a few more shots in before they agreed to the inevitable.

BavarianVassal.png

Shortly into this phase I noticed France was again at war with Burgundy for the third time. After France had the Burgundians on the run once again I decided now would be a good time to really put a hurt on them and eliminate them as a real threat to our empires.

The nice thing about having vassals is that you always have a few war partners. The bad thing is sometimes they sieze one province minors before you can get there, so you cannot annex them.

I guess I'll settle for vassalization.

AlsaceVassal.png

I'll get them eventually.

After France was able to sieze 4-5 territories I came in with the knockout blow. I siezed every province and decimated all of their remaining forces.

France had forced them to release Bremen and Hamburg in their peace treaty. Luckily for me I already had those places under control and quickly added them to my empire.

Also ripe for the picking were Utrecht and Mecklenburg. Also notice the new royal marriages. Peace on each border.

As a Brit it is in my blood to look upon French successes with disdain.
However as your AAR has so far been a thoroughly enjoyable read I am willing to make an exception and wish you all the best in your endevours, whether they be French or not. :)

Iberian Expansion

I decided to end my Provence problem once and for all.

Provencecede.png

Provence was allied with Castille however which made things interesting. I sent every available soldier I had to wage war on the Castillians. I outnumbered them about 2-1 or 5-3. I was able to land a successful campaign sweeping south and west from Navarra. I also destroyed the entire Castillian fleet save 6 ships.

However I spread my troops to think while besieging many provinces because my cavalry wore thin chasing the fleeing armies around the peninsula.

I agreed to the following peace deal.

Hear is France at the end of 1497. Back to Austria.
