HI, am french and awaiting the game.

I was wondering, I have read that France's population growth was hardcoded as almost nil. I think that is a good thing, but maybe it should be somewhat flexible ( it might be already ? ).

Indeed, I don't know if there ways to influence your population growth, through natural growth. I know there are immigration things, but is there something that influences natural growth ? Like more equal rights among population lowers it, while low innovativness increases it.

In this case, France should not be completely hardcoded, it should just have some sort of extra penalty harcoded ( like infantry prices for some countries in EUII for ex ). So that if according to policies population growth can be between 0 and 3 % a year for a normal country ( without the wars or other pop lowering events ), than for France it Would be comprised between -1,5 and + 1,5.

Answers anyone ?

Cheers.

If your improve your Healthcare policy, your growth should improve.

Is there a bug in the ledger with the growth table in the immigration sheet? I can't remember which page it is, but all the growth values are always 0%.

And what about the +/- % on the immigration sheet? It says that I have a +2.3% immigration going to Austin (US), and if I sort the other way around I have maybe a - 1.7 % immigration in another province going ( in the destination table) to Houston and neither of these provinces are mine?

But I do get more immigrants in the province, where they are leaving for Austin, so I guess this last issue is just some interface glitch.

There are certain inventions in the industry field that raise the population growth of a country.

Emmigration/immigration is NOT an internal issue.

While people may move from one province owned by you to the other, it is just as common (and for some nations more common) for people from outside your nation to move to your nation or for people form your nation to move outside your nation.

3% growth a year is enormous!

IRL France managed 0.6% between 1801-51 and 0.1% between 1851-1911. (Barricades and Borders - Europe 1800-1914, Short Oxford History of the Modern World)

So OK allow some lattitude but not 3% Even the fastest growing countries in this period struggled to break 2%

Population growth rates never got anywhere near 3% prior to the 20th century population explosion in the 3rd world. France could have over half a billion people by 1920 at that rate.

Well, I have the game, but I am still at work. This thread has led me to ask the following questions:

Does Victoria have a culture for each province like EU, or multiple cultures? If multiple, are there percentages for each? Can these percentages be changed through immigration and emmigration? And in essence, can provinces be homogenized to your state culture after being conquered? (understanding that it would take vast resources and bad boy to do so)

The population is not bound to provinces but to POPs. Each POP has a type, a culture, a religion, a dominant issue, a secondary issue and ideology. There can be several POPs in a province. See the screenshot here for a detailed POP view:

A Pop in Detail

Assimilation will happen over time and there is nothing you as a player can do to force that to happen.

I haven't noticed a different figure for France. Pop growth seems to start at about 0.07% for any crime free province and about 0.01% for a province affected by crime (which a lot of them will be until you can afford serious spending to keep it down.) Then you get immigration/emigration which, if in effect, is at a much higher rate. Pops seem to be driven away by war too, though I don't have a handle on exactly how yet.

Assimilation into the majority pop of the province, or the culture of the state? IE if I have a province with 51 percent Ukraineans and 49 percent Romanian in Moldova, will it slowly turn 100 percent Ukrainean, or 100 Romanian?

Assimilate into state culture.
