These provinces were a part of the royal domaine (crown lands) until 1360 ,they were gived as apanage by the king jean II to his son Louis of Naples.
What did Louis XI in 1474?
He went with his army in Angers, the capital of Anjou, and demanded the keys of the city. René of Anjou gave it to him without fighting.
Later Louis XI managed to be the heir of René and herited of maine and provence.

So it makes sense (at least as much as the england's core on picardy), i dont know why it has been changed...
