If I see that happening, I would save, boot up as France and simply wreak some havoc on his vassals relations, and then save restart again on your country, and watch them lose all their holdings in spain.

Seriously, though, how can the French king afford to effectively sustain such adventures even in the short term, particularly considering that the conquered lands will take around half a century (45 years?) to adjust to providing normal taxes and levies?

Maybe a little bird should whisper "Jerusalem" in his ear instead.

I personally think that France always had the capacity to do it. Usually the only thing keeping France out of Iberia is family politics.

I've never seen France conquer half of spain. Every campaign is different, just because it happened to you a few times doesn't mean it always happens.

I've played a few games as the Normans because England has proven a greater challenge for me than it did William I, and without fail France will have conquered a few Muslim territories in Iberia by the time I've decided to start over.

It is not just a few times, though. In all of my times playing the Demo hacked to play out 400 years and all my times playing the released version France has stomped its way through Iberia.

Now, I try to rationalize it as the Pope recognizing Iberia is a more pressing concern than Jerusalem, but really? Every time I boot up a new game?

Its especially idiotic if you play in Iberia, by the time I got my realm running France allready owned the east coast and 15 years later they controlled everything expect the christian kingdoms and Portugal, which i managed to take. Now I will probably have to somehow get an alliance with the HRE to stand any chance of expansion.

Maybe the pope called a crusade there? I have even see HRE take teritory in Iberia. Just wait, eventually all those large Kingdoms fall into civil war, and being that all the provinces are the wrong culture, they stand a good chance of losing them to rebellion.

Edit, you could even help it along with a few choice assassinations.

How should they fix it exactly? Reducing the manpower of France?
Vassals seem to be already quite rebellious, so no need to make it more.

The problem is, they can win those wars in Iberia without calling the vassals to war. They usually fight against those little 1/2 regions taifas...

Put me down in the group that has seen it happen every time without fail. It would be nice if they had other things to think about at the start, allowing the Spanish kingdoms a chance to get some territory first.

I think if they raise the number of seazones from fracne to ibera it would help, also maybe giving the king of france more baronies to full his demense, if i'm wrong, then i'm sure the developers know what causes it.

Well no, it's not working perfectly because this is a "whatif" that's simply not plausible. The King of France in the late 11th century didn't have the clout to force his vassals into making him an omlette, let alone invade Spain. I can imagine some wildly fucked up scenarios in which France does invade Iberia, but it should be an interesting exception, rather than a frustrating norm.

How should they fix it exactly?

Giving the King traits which make him less likely to start wars would be one way. Another way would be to provide him with enough internal problems that he can't do shit elsewhere - basically his vassals need to be more uppity.
Ultimately we players can't suggest exactly what to change without knowing all the elements that factor into the AI's decision to declare war. That's a solution that only Paradox have right now.

This started happening in my last game. Southern Italy got overrun and then the first emirates started popping up along the meditarranean coast in France. After three crusades they were gone but I feel that if I hadn't stepped in we might have gotten an Islamic France there. Poitiers all over again.

Regardless of what happens in iberia, southern france, or italy, I think something we can all agree on is the Byzantines never lose. Ever.
