France mission - American independence issue

Hi, I am unsure if this is a problem caused by myself or the game so some assistance would be appreciated.

I tried for the missions 'american independence' but seem unable to complete it.

At first, I supported 'new holland's independence from Holland, the war happened, they released and turned into 'Florida / Floridian Northeast' which I allied. This didn't trigger the mission, so I then went to war with portugal and told them to release the United States from their 'New Portugal', which I then allied - still no mission complete.

I've waited a few months, restarted and done the same too, still no success.

I am unclear as to how to complete this mission - my worry is that when a nation is released, it tag switches and so loses its 'history' that it was a colonial nation?

Any ideas please?

Yes. When I tested this in one of the earlier 1.30 patches you had to ally the former colonial nation before they formed something else.
