France: Have same dynasty as Spain, should I Restoration of the Union CB or wait?

Hi there,

I need a bit of help with my France save.

I've got the same dynasty as Spain (Valois). I can get a Restoration of the Union CB from my Mission tree but I was wondering if it were worth waiting to see if they end up with no heir and I get them in a PU? What do you guys think?

I would rather wait a little, let them get some more colonies, then attack to remove any RNG element. But if there's a chance I could get them in a PU without having to war them then I'd obviously prefer it.

There is a chance you could get a random PU, but the odds are pretty slim. They have to have a monarch die with no heir at the right time while at peace. Unless they have a 50 year old with no heir and succession right now is a PU I would say not worth it.

Better to get your PU and weird it against your enemies now. Spain will continue colonizing as a PU, the AI just wont generally take exploration ideas if they are a subject.

General rule for PUs: Expect to go to war for it. Anything else will just be frustrating...

Peaceful non-event ones are extremely rare. Even if you didn't have the mission CB and would have same dynasty, I would recommend claiming throne and taking it in a war as soon as they have no/weak heir.

As france direct conquest for channel node is best. Pu rest of colonizers.

When you have this kind of opportunity with a colonizer just make sure they took exploration / expansion to be able to colonize, sometimes PU and vassals without exploration are locked and can't take exploration anymore.

Ah, i appreciate the roleplaying there. Everything should be secondary compared to going to war against England in your France campaigns.
