France Elected Holy Roman Emperor

so to all you people who thought it wasnt possible (myself included), it really is

proof: as france, annex all catholic nations(austria, spain, england,and any of those that stay catholic in the HRE, but i dont believe the ones in italy are neccessary.)
France will be hated throughout the world, but the catholics will have no other choice.

question is, why does this not happen more often? i have seen many games where spain is much more aggressive in europe than france (talking about both being played by the ai) and yet spain is always HRE, same with austria, even after their mega bb annexation of hungary and bohemia

if i were to be france and spend all my money on improving relations (who's done that one before?) would it get me anywhere?? or would i still see the same old emperors elected

Errrrrrmmm, who thought it wasn't possible? I've been elected HRE as France quite a few times, (Memorably, once as Louis XVI) and it didn't require the annexation of all Catholic nations or anything like that.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty well known that any catholic can get elected. As France it's quite easy even due to having lots of money and diplomats.

I just unleashed all my money on improving relations with all The Electors, and it got Louis XVI the title. Simple.

Although it did go back to The Hapsburgs once the poor chap was guillotined. Heh.

Of course, as France, you can be elected emperor, but any territory you conquer is automatically not in the HRE...

I've never seen all the Catholics annexed, but I would imagine the HRE goes defunct.

About Spain as HRE-

Spain and Austria both receive the "Habsburg bonus" in calculating votes for HRE.
