I'm playing France (from Dauphine in an AGCEEP game). I annexed Bergundy nice and early but have held off on annexing them. The reason is that last time I did, the rebellious Netherlands tied down huge amounts of troops I could have really used elsewhere, until the Edict of Tolerance finally fired about 150 years later.

Is there a clever way around this problem?

At the moment I'm thinking of leaving Bergundy as is and concentrating on other matters. If the place implodes and ends up as an independent Netherlands I can always force-vass them and annex them later, as well as Bergundy if it's still there.

I had the same problem as Burgundy, although it's a lot worse since my capital was up there. I faught them up to an extent, but gave up as religious rebellions started springing up, and overall, chaos erupted in my realm. Let them become independant (or you could release them as a vassal, they might even do a little exploring before you re-annex them.) then annex them later.

In order to avoid the Dutch revolts, you need, as a non-dutch country, :
- if you're catholic or CRC, be at Innovativeness 8 or above
- if you're protestant or reformed, bet at Centralisation 0
from 1560 to 1572 (or around).

If you're catho/CRC, failing to avoid the first event means you risk getting the two others, unless you get innovative enough in the meantime. But if you avoid the first event, you're safe from the others.
If you're protestant/reformed, failing to avoid the rebellions is less serious, as you only get one of the three events.
