Hey hey people, i hope everybody is having a good day

I'd like to open the debate about "Why France can't get Luxemburg?"

Indeed in the game, if you go Napoléon or Fascist, even with the "natural borders of France" focus, there is no focus which give you a casus belli against Luxemburg

and i find it very strange

Historicaly, during the french revolution and the napoleonic wars, Luxemburg WAS a part of France, it was a departement called "Département des Forêts", in french belgium (both were annexed at the same time since both were part of the Austrian dutch territories). For the "natural borders of France" ideology... well, of course Luxemburg is concerned ...

In the game, it's annoying: the borders are not cleans, Germany can take Luxemburg and pierce from there the whole french front... And we all know here how annoying it can be when you have to justify war goals by yourself...

it's really giving me the impression that the french focus tree is unfinished, like.... the developpers just forgot the existence of Luxembourg...

And it's not the only problem with that focus tree, take a look at that:

Hey.png

do you see the problem ? why don't we get the same bonus for Belgium and Luxemburg ? why would the Netherlands be more compliant than the belgians or the luxemburgers ?

Also, again, historicaly, Belgium and Luxemburg were annexed and reorganized by France way before the netherlands, in 1794 (The netherlands were annexed in 1810). Also, "Dutch" was also used to talk about Belgium and Luxemburg at that time...

That's all, it's my humble opinion.
I hope everybody here is having a good day, thank you for reading me!

There are a lot of issue like this with the French focus tree. It is a shame than minor countries like Spain and Portugal have received more love than France. I was really hypped by the France focus tree after seeing what they have done with UK, the Netherland and Mexico but it is just meh. It has the same level of details than old focus tree.

An evident proof of this is the absence in its tree that causes multiple changes of leaders to exist had France in that historical period or the lack of the mention of French foreign legion which is something very representative of that country

I may be wrong in my assessment, but to the best of my knowledge it would seem they had knowledgeable native Iberian expertise available with Spain and Portugal, where as with France they either had less or no native French expertise. At least I don't remember any French historians posting on the forums on behalf of PDX in relation to the new French tree.

Being from a more obscure nation myself, I know only too well just how vital native expertise can be in historiography. If I relied only on English sources for Finnish history, my understanding would be flawed, full of mistakes and I wouldn't be able to understand the entire picture due to countless details being left out. I cannot stress enough the importance of credible native expertise when creating nation-specific flavour content in a game like HoI4.

I mean, most of the time Paradox doesn't listen at all to people who try to make the game more historical (for example the great post about navy at the start of the war). And besides that is irrelevant, most of the information can be found on something as simple as wikipedia, and there are some great mod that already try to correct France focus tree.
If they have done a public thread where they ask people to find good idea about France with sources, I'm pretty sure a lot of people would have loved to help them.
In my opinion, Paradox do not really care about France focus tree maybe they are not really interested in the country in this time frame (I just like to point out that De Gaulle's speech "l'appel du 18 juin" which is probably the more popular speech of all history of France is not present in the Allies Speech pack). Saying that the mistake comes from the community is just wrong.

From what I heard they excluded De Gaulle due to difficulties with obtaining the rights to use his speeches

I agree with your point of view.
As a french native, having a licence of history, it's sometimes funny to see those mistakes ! It's also one of the reason that pushed me to make this post.
