The vast majority of devs generally quotes what they're referring to.

And if you only read this post would you even know what the topic was about.
(You see the quote does not quote the quote, or previous posts before that. Now it is possible to do that but it is more work and most people do not bother.)

Well you can jump to the last post since you last looked into the thread.

That only works if my last post is on or near the last page. If it is a hot topic and I step away for a day or two, my last post can by five pages from the end.

No it will take you to the last post you have seen no matter how long it has been since you read the thread.
