  • We will be taking the forums down for scheduled maintenance on Thursday, February 25th 2021 At approximately 4PM CST / Friday, February 26th 2021 Midnight UTC. This downtime is estimated to last up to 2 hours.

Not that this is important or anything, but 4pm CST is 10pm UTC as far as I can tell.

So either this means that downtime is from 10pm UTC to 12pm UTC or that downtime begins sometime inbetween and ends 2 hours after whenever.

The main problem, of course, is the telling of time utilizing am and pm when god clearly intended the use of 24h.

While I agree, that using AM/PM is just confusing about anyone, the main problem however is having time zones in the first place. ;)
But as PDX cannot chnage the latter they could at least change the former. And maybe only using one timezone in these announcements. Except of those living in CST (and maybe neighbouring zones) noone cares what time the downtime is at in CST.

Yes, I know why we do have timezones and they may have had their purpose. But they've outlived their usefulness. Just use UTC anywhere. People will get used to it and commerce (or basically anything that happens outside your timezone but affects you) would be MUCH easier.

Sincerly - someone who is fixing time zone related problems in professional software on a regulary basis. Granted, I earn good money from this, but it's entirely unnecessary.

Sorry... this got somewhat out of hand...

Oh, I agree. UTC all the way. But for the nostalgia/cool factor we should refer to it as zulu time. ^^
