Egypt we fight on. While the Ottomans and there British Allies drive against us we stand firm inflicting extreme losses on there increasingly battered forces. Egypt we now stand strong against the decayed Ottoman Empire. Egyptian glory will be rebuilt and strengthened while the Ottomans crumple with there army battered and rebels taking control over there Greek provinces. I assure the numerous Coptic Christians that there rights will nor be endangered by the tide of Islam that is sweeping through the country. You will be free to practice your faith in Egypt provided you accept secular laws and pay the jizya a small tax for men with sufficient income of military age, this tax is not going to be significant but if you pay you'll receive all the protection the Egyptian government can provide you. For those secular academics worried about the tide of Islam and the possible effects on them need not be worried. The Egyptian government protects all it's citizens regardless of how religious they are or which faith they worship. The only thing required of non-muslims is the jizya tax that was mentioned earlier. In all other regards they are equal. I must also thank our good friends in Bavaria for there promise to send gold to help us overthrow the corrupt Ottoman government. I also wish to enter talks with the British about an end to the fighting between us. It benefits no one and your people seem to be turning against your war. While we respect the greatness of Britain would it not be possible to come to a fair agreement?

It brings me great sadness to say this, but I am hereby resigning from Chile.

Farewell, noble Andean Republic, and may you live long and prosper. In other news, I'll be writing some mini updates and GMing: Austria, Prussia, Bavaria, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands.

With great joy, the Vietnamese people present the following treaty before the world for the Qing signature:

Treaty of Hanoi

Following two years of bloodshed and war between their respective countries, the Empires of Dai Nam and Qing agree to the following points:

1.) Qing Armies and Navies shall withdraw from all Vietnamese lands and waters no later than one week after the signing of this treaty.

2.) The official border between the Empire of Dai Nam and the Qing Empire shall be those set prior to the start of the war in 1840.

3.) The Qing Empire hearby recognizes the Empire of Dai Nam as a sovereign nation, no longer a tributary vassal, and shall treat the Empire of Dai Nam as such in all future dealings between their respective countries.

Emperor Nguyễn Phúc Miên Tông stands atop the newly constructed fortresses along the Red River in the city of Hanoi before the assembled ranks of Vietnamese troops and gathered civilians and nobles.

People of Dai Nam, my people, today is the most significant day in the history of our nation since its formation by my grandfather, Gia Long, these 40 years ago. We have achieved what has always been sought, total and complete independence from foreign rule. We are finally free!! But, we cannot rest, not yet. For too long we have remained in isolation from the outside world, and as such we have grown weak. This must change. We must open ourselves to the world and allow new ideas and technologies to enter our nation and bring all the benefits that they have brought to the West. We must also concentrate on improving our domestic affairs as well, by improving the everyday lives of our citizens and bringing more freedom and liberty to our nation. It will take many years to bring our nation to the levels of freedom and liberty enjoyed in nations like the United States and the British Empire, but small steps will be taken to set us down the right path.

The Guang-Zi Emperor delivered this speech from the Dragon Throne earlier today

The mistakes of my father were absolute, his loss of the Mandate of Heaven has been a loss to all of China. Because of him, our ways are corrupted. Because of him, our vassals have revolted. Because of him, we had no way of taking back what was truly ours. Because of him, the Dragon Throne lost the Mandate of Heaven.

His greatest act was his death.

Today, I reestablish the Mandate. Heaven belongs to the Chinese, and the Chinese alone. We shall establish the true dominace of the Chinese people over Chinese lands, in Chinese ways.

To all nations across the world, we will not threaten you. We will fix ourselves. Your trade is welcome, your technology is welcome. However your troops are not, and your ways are not. We are not of the west, for we are the Qing, so do not expect us to act like the west, talk like the west, and dress like the west.

All my fathers men in the positions of administration will immediately stand down. The true Taoists and Buddhists will take charge. The Army shall be untouched. A Purge will begin, for the men that were servile to my father lost the Mandate of Heaven, and NOTHING can ever forgive that.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland would like to first take the time to applaud the leadership of the Admiralty, in their efforts to increase coordination between the Royal Navy and the Royal Army. While such humorous phrases could be thrown around, both of these branches of the Military are necessary and vial to the survival of the British Empire as a whole. Without any of these, we would not be the World's Foremost Power, focused on the ideals of Free-Trade, and making sure that the Countries of this World are given a fair field for trading and commerce, one of the founding tenements of the Royal Navy, which patrols the Seas to ensure their freedom.

Her Majesty's Government would like to highly applaud the efforts of British Capital in further increasing the Railroads in this nation. It is with these investments that the United Kingdom shall become the most connected nation in the world, free and able to traverse and allow commerce to flow. While over the past few years, Her Majesty's Government has been focused on the construction of Industry and Railroads in England alone. No more shall this be true. Now that we have expanded the base in England alone, we shall be moving to the other countries of the United Kingdom, starting with Ireland, in building Railroads and Industry for the Irish People. We understand that this should help the Irish People in getting better paying jobs, and increase productivity and prosperity in Ireland as a whole. Once this has been achieved, we shall be focusing on Wales and Scotland.

We applaud the Kingdom of the Netherlands to reform her Government along the lines of the United Kingdom's. We are certain that our system will work well for the Dutch Government, and the Dutch Citizens. Any help needed to propel this project forward, and we would be more than willing to assist them.

Furthermore, we also congratulate the Russian Empire on their efforts to claim Central Asia, and for their expansion of the Russian Empire as whole. We know and understand that this is the best path forward, for Progress of the nation as a whole, and for those who now find themselves under the control of the Russian Empire. Her Majesty's Government is certain that the Russian Empire will do the best to provide and bring these peoples up into Russian Society, similar to what Her Majesty's Government is doing in in the Colonies under our Control.

To our Prussian Friends, whom we have warm relations with, we seek to help them after the Fire at the Königsberg Shipyards. We would be willing, with Prussian Permission, to enter into Königsberg with Royal Engineers to help clean up, and rebuilt this Shipyard, using the height of British Technology. In doing this, we shall also offer this same deal to the Russian Empire, to help refit one of their ports using the same British Technology.

In talking about the Italian War, we are surprised and amazed at the actions of the former Sicilian King. We are glad that he has been removed, and hope saner heads will prevail, and that lasting Peace will remain over the Italian Peninsula. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland will seek a commitment to maintaining the peace currently enjoyed, and guarantee the borders as of current. We shall speak out and support those who wish to keep them as they are, against all those that wish to destroy them.

On to a most important issues to the British People: The War in the Levant. Her Majesty's Government has heard you. We shall listen to the good judgement and will of the British People, who are, at their core, the Gears and Cogs that make the British Empire great. We have exacted a peace with the Sultanate of Egypt, which we are certain is fair and just. The United Kingdom of Britain and Ireland shall gain a new Trading Partner in this, and we shall also be gaining the Island of Crete, which shall be used as a Base for the Royal Navy, along with the Island of Cyprus. We shall be paying only for the transportation costs off the Island of Crete for Egyptian Officials. We are happy that the Government of Egypt has decided to work with the British Empire in achieving Peace. Both of our nations are not War-Oriented, and are pleased that a Peace, beneficial to both sides, could be reached.

Finally, in the best interest of the World as a whole, Her Majesty's Government shall be sending an expedition to the Empire of Japan, in hopes of opening their markets to Trade, to bring their goods to the World, and to bring the World's Goods to them, to help their nation move forward with the rest of the Civilized World.

This has been a message from Her Majesty's Government.

The Kingdom of Bavaria - Lighting the path of progress

I can tell you, my fellow citizens of this nation, that Bavaria is a thriving nation, and one of the most modern on this globe. In comparison to other states with much larger Population and also much richer resource deposits, we have come to stand out. We have taken up the opportunity. This is our era, our time to shine once again, not in the light of conquest and battle, but in the light of modernism, culture and development. The Status of Peace in Europe is one, which we shouldn't think as lightly about as we do. For centuries and ages, war has limited developments, hindering the progress Europe really needed, but with the Status Quo assured, development can finally show its powers.
We have opened the doors of our nation with a welcoming grasp to all those, who wish to aid us in the development, where their powers are suppressed. The developments Europe is seeing must be free, so that all may be able to thrive and profit off those developments as they deserve. Thus we can not leave those behind who are not wanted to develop, we need to make sure that the geniuses of mankind may be used. Thus, we will continue to maintain this policy and expand it towards making new laws fitting this policy.

- His majesty, Ludwig I, King of Bavaria, Duke of Franconia, Count Palatine of the Rhine.

The problems with The Ottoman Empire and Egyptian forces have troubled the balance of powers. A resolution would be an improvement provided that both sides stick to their word. The Russian Empire would not see benefit in continued destabilization of the lands south of us.

The Egyptian Sultanate rejects the Ottoman terms as utterly unacceptable. Ottoman forces are weak and their Morale low. There only ally has abandoned them and they are facing significant revolts by the Greeks and other groups may soon follow breaking out in open revolt. Why should we accept such a unfavorable peace deal? We feel that the greater threat to regional stability is the Rule of the Mad sultan present in Constantinople ruling other his vast empire which even now is running out of ready manpower and is desperately giving away land to try and gain both allies and supplies to ensure his forces hold together for just a few more days. Though we are willing to discuss peace and offer a return peace treaty to the Ottomans.

Treaty of Cairo

1. Recognition of Egyptian Independence
i)The Ottoman Empire will renounce it's claims to Egypt, Sudan, Hedjaz and the Levant.
ii) The Ottoman Empire shall recognize the Sultanate's rightful control of Egypt, Sudan, Hedjaz and the Levant.

2. Transfer of Land
i)The Ottoman Empire shall cede Northern Africa to the Sultanate of Egypt.
ii) The Ottoman Empire shall cease its claims to North Africa

III. Pact of Non-Aggression
i) The Ottoman Empire and the Sultanate of Egypt shall sign a pact of Non-Aggression, lasting 10 years.

The Kingdom of Prussia

The Kingdom of Prussia has noted with displeasure the Egyptian Sultan's rejection of favorable terms presented by the Ottoman Empire despite the occupation of a quarter of his territory by the Ottoman Army. While we support independence for the Egyptian people, we will not countenance further instability and bloodshed so close to our colonial borders merely to stoke the fires of the Egyptian Sultan's pride. Should he continue to reject the reasonable terms laid out in the Ottoman treaty, the Kingdom of Prussia will consider his actions a matter of gravest consequence and be forced to contemplate military intervention in the conflict.

Coronation of Pedro II of Brazil

196px-Coat_Arms_Empire_of_Brazil.svg.png

Brazil has been adrift since the abdication of Pedro I. The initial Regency set up for his son and led by Pedro de Araújo Lima accomplished little, devolving power to regional assemblies through the Additional Act of 1834 and creating fertile ground for local political bickering and corruption. The "second" Regency, under Honório Hermeto Carneiro Leão saw a flurry of activity aimed at modernization and anti-corruption, but the government was thwarted at almost every turn. By 1840 the Regency government appeared exhausted and on the verge of losing legitimacy after a long string of political defeats.

The possibility of lowering the age of majority of Dom Pedro has been brought up periodically since 1831. Many feared that a small group of politicians may be able to gain undue influence over the country if Dom Pedro was allowed to ascend the throne while still young. However, the apparent failure of the Regency precipitated the need. Honório Hermeto Carneiro Leão stepped down from his position as Regent in July of 1840.

A delegation from the General Assembly was dispatched to ask Dom Pedro whether he would accept the throne immediately if it was offered to him. The 14 year-old boy said yes, and so on July 23rd of 1840 the General Assembly lowered the age of majority to 14. The same day Dom Pedro took the oath of office and took control of the government of Brazil.

Almost exactly a year later, on July 18th of 1841 Pedro was crowned Emperor Pedro II of Brazil. The government that he had managed to assemble during the year was, unsurprisingly, filled with career politicians close to him, most prominently Aureliano de Sousa e Oliveira Coutinho, and many in the popularly elected General Assembly were already grumbling that a mistake had been made.

EDIT: OOC: I assume I am allowed this short back story. Everything is historical except the resignation of the previous Regent (his ascension was ahistorical, so just returning to the normal historical path).

I strongly advise the Prussian King looks again at the figures for both nations not just who holds what territory. The Egyptian army is larger and better equipped than the Ottoman army. With the Ottomans only advantage being command of the Sea which in this war will have little effect. Also the Territory demanded is of extremely high value for both religious and economic reasons. While in comparison the territory offered is poor and small in comparison with limited value. Any nation would likely only accept such an offer if the balance of power was unfavorable and in this case it is not. It should also be noted that with Greek rebels rising up the Ottoman Empire has far too few troops to contain the imminent Egyptian counter offensive as well as crush the rebels rising in Greece and possibly other areas. The counter offer was a reasonable assessment of the balance of power which is highly unfavorable for the Ottomans and to give them an option to pull out if their Mad Sultan can see sense for once and pull his forces back to ensure internal stability.

The Kingdom of Prussia

Following Egypt's dismissal of reasonable terms and the Sultan's rejection of regional peace in favor of his own greed and pride, the Kingdom of Prussia sees no choice but to intervene militarily in the Oriental Crisis and hereby declares war on the Sultanate of Egypt. Perhaps Muhammad Ali will see reason when the Prussian Army is standing in his palace in Cairo.

The Kingdom of Bavaria would remind all parties involved in this ongoing struggle, that these peace terms could never have been acceptable to anyone, because they did not set proper lines for anything and definitions were quite badly made. Egypt can be seen including the Sinai peninsula, and even the Negev desert, while it can also be seen to end before the Sinai peninsula. Similar Problems occur with the term levant, which defines a region, but does not have any accurate borders, similarly if you regard the question of Mesopotamia and the Sinai.
We ask all the parties to actually define their goals in this war, so that a conclusion can be found that is possible and also legitimate in the eyes of all and no further bloodshed and escalation to this struggle is required. Should this be done, i would willingly host a peace conference in Munich to negotiate appropriate terms.

- His majesty, Ludwig I, King of Bavaria, Duke of Franconia, Count Palatine of the Rhine.
