((It seems that the people of the Xiuhcoatl will not accept being divided according to the interests of the greater clans - after an interregnum of over half a century, they've found someone who they believe can lead the clan!

You all still have a little over 7 hours to announce your participation in the Tlatoani Trials, but to increase the time you have for making up orders, you can begin to send orders for the next turn already - the deadline for those is New Year's Eve. Get your orders in before 2016!))

Ceccuectli, the youngest son of Tlatoani Cecoceloto and the only one still alive after his long reign, would declare his intention to become Tlatoani to the heads of the necentlaliliztli.

((Ceccuectli will choose an aggressive strategy for the battle and a cautious one for the hunt.))

Chapter VI: The Fourth Tlatoani Trials
For the first time since the Trials of which Yoliotl became the victor, there was once again four claimants who wanted to become Tlatoani. Like always, the Maximotl Clan was represented, this time with a young man called Anotoniotl. The Snow-Wanderers, who hoped to attain the Tlatoaniship for the second time in a row, were represented by a son of the former Tlatoani called Ceccuectli. Apart from these two usual clans, two other claimants also took part in the trials. One was Tonauac of the Tlanextic, a small but very influential clan with many great warriors among its ranks, and the other one was Chicauah of the Achtopochtecapiltzmeh, a clan that was mostly known for their ability to predict the weather through watching the sky for omens.

To the surprise of the entire population of Atlauhtipan gathered at Acaluaccaquixtepetl for the opening ceremony and the first trial, the contenders from the two clans, who had formerly won the prize at the Trials, both failed at presenting an original, new idea for the Trial of Ideas, and thus were cast out of the contest. Left were Tonauac of the Tlanextic, who showed how trained owls could be used for hunting, and Chicauah, who had named all the clouds, and thus he was able to determine even more precisely if it was going to snow or not.

Tonauac and Chicauah continued through most of the trials without any one of them seeming stronger or better than the other, and many thought it would end up with a duel again. In the end, endurance would be the decisive factor in these trials: Both had done a great job with the hunting, Tonauac bringing home a spectacled snow bear's head and Chicauah the tusk of a killer moose - but Tonauac was visibly exhausted by the ordeals, and during the following Trial of the Night Vigil, he fainted, leaving Chicauah as the only claimant still in the contest. chicauah went on to pass the last trials flawlessly, and within a week he was acclaimed as the new Tlatoani at the Hill of Acaluaccaquixti.

-------------------------------------------

So, Chicauah of the Achtopochtecapiltzmeh is the new Tlatoani. Will he rid the government of its deficits? And what about the inheritance of the Coaxoch? His clan has never issued a statement or a vote on the matter and the Quixpix Resolution is only missing one vote for reaching a majority in the necentlaliliztli...

you have 48 hours from now to send orders!

((And so the inheritance of the Coaxoch and Atlaticquipiltzmeh was finally resolved - at least theoretically - for it remained to be seen if the people of Clan Yolotli would accept giving up their land or not. Furthermore, some of the land of the Coaxoch were to be given to the Eztli Clan, which had also died out, and this would also have to be distributed.))

Cecuectli was discussing the proposal with a couple of other Cecuecacayotin members. They quickly came to a decision and Cecuectli turned to the other heads of the necentlaliliztl.

"The Cecuecacayotin see no reason why the Maximotl should be denied the Etzli's share of Quixpix's plan. They did not gain land as was noted by the clan's report, so they would not be gaining more land than the other clans.

The Tlanextic agree. It does not make sense to disturb te balance of the clans at this time, and as the Maximotl are short, it makes sense for them to gain the lands of the Etzli.

The reign of Tlatoani Chicauah
Tlatoani Chicauah, one of the Achtopochtecapiltzmeh, would mainly be remembered for his adoption of the Quixpix plan for distributing the inheritance of the Coaxoch and Atlaticquipiltzmeh. It wasn’t without obstacles though; amendments had to be made due to the plan being so old that it contained allotments to long-extinct clans, causing some land to not actually being redistributed. Also, the increasingly xenophobic Clan of Yolotli still resided in the lands formerly belonging to the Atlaticquipiltzmeh.

Clan Xiuhcoatl

Another notable event that transpired during Chicauah’s reign was the claiming of Tepoztepetl, Copper Hill, by the Xipil of the Xiuhcoatl Clan. The Xipil had claimed the hill for her clan because it was the site at which she had received the Mark of the Fire Serpent, and because the red rocks found there were a gift from the god Xiuhcoatl. Others suspected that she was doing it because copper-rich rock such as the one found at Tepoztepetl was useful for making weapons. So far, the Xiuhcoatl clansmen had built a small compound surrounded by a wooden palisade, and no mining was going on. The settlement had been attacked once - by a spectacled snow bear - but it had been put down by the clan warriors staying there.

The Xiuhcoatl had also tried establishing themselves as trap fishers by the river. However, there weren’t enough fish to be caught there, and eventually gave up, selling their fish traps on the market as baskets. This was actually sort of profitable though, so weaving baskets became a common pastime among the clansmen of Xiuhcoatl.

((Claimed Tepoztepetl, Copper Hill, established Basketweaving (+1 wealth)))

Clan Tlanextic

The Tlanextic continued the training of even more warriors, even though they were already by far the most militarized clan in the realm of Atlauhtipan. The warriors spent most of their time hunting, and brought down many a wild beast. The meat was cooked and eaten when the game was brought home, while the skins were used for clothes and even military standards for the different groups of warriors - the most popular animal to be used for this purpose was the jaguar. The Tonauac was also gifted two captured lynxes, which he used as pets.

The new Tonauac, like his predecessor also headed out on an expedition, this time to the land of the Cahualpehuah, They-Herd-Horses, which lied to the far north-west of Atlauhtipan, on a peninsula in the northern end of the Smoking Sea. About half of these tough and very strong people were indeed horse-herders and spent their days out in the cold tundra with their horses, while many others lived in caves in the western part of the peninsula, hunting and fishing for food and digging deep mine shafts into the underground. All in all, the lands were surprisingly productive despite the low temperatures. The military of the Cahualpehuah seemed slightly inferior in numbers to that of Atlauhtipan; they had 60 archers armed with bows of varying quality and 30 poorly armed militiamen guarding their caves. However, their caves were easily defended, and it would probably take a lot of men to conquer the altepetl of the Cahualpehuah.

((recruited 60 archers more, +9 food and +6 production from hunting, established Featherworking (+1 wealth, +1 research), military standards (+1 xp to all troops), lynx pets (+1 culture, +2 happiness)))

((Map of Cahualpehuahtlalpan. They have 30 ordinary archers, 30 composite archers and 30 tribal guardians (2 strength), and +35% defense bonus in their capital, which don’t show on the map since they are Neanderthalers))

Clan Achtopochtecapiltzmeh

The Achtopochtecapiltzmeh, from which Tlatoani Chicauah hailed, didn’t do much of interest during his reign. They claimed the eastern woods in Nanacatlan from the extinct clan of Eztli, and took over the collection of bark from the fine trees of this forest, and in Atlauhtipan they built a new dining hall, where they all ate together when they came home from the woods of Nanacatlan.

((inherited Bark Gathering, constructed Dining Hall (+1 health, +3 food, +1 culture)))

Clan Cuallitechichic

The clansmen of Cuallitechichic decided that they would begin making their own charcoal. The project went along nicely, although the neighbors complained about the smoke.

((established Charcoal burning (+1 production, -1 health)))

Clan Maximotl

The chief of the Maximoh wished to begin recording the history of Atlauhtipan, so that it would never be forgotten, but alas he and his clansmen were too busy providing for themselves and their families that the project didn’t get very far.

((City size of 6 required for production of paper, parchment or tablets - Atlauhtipan is 3.))

Clan Cecuecacayotin

Although their chief didn’t lack in ambition, the resources of the clan were to stretched out for anything to be done this turn.

((not enough production points this turn, orders saved for next))

Clan Tonatepotztocah

The Tonatepotztocah finally managed to establish a mining operation at the foot of the mountain just north of Atlauhtipan. The operation was, in a manner of speaking, a true gold mine for the Tonatepotztocah and they sold many different kinds of rock and metals found in the bowels of the mountains. These sales provided a much needed income for the heavily indebted Tonatepotztocah, and made them the most productive clan in Atlauhtipan, even surpassing the industrious Tlanextic.

((Established Mining Camp (+5 production, +3 wealth)))

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, Chicauah’s reign wasn’t a particularly long one, and it wasn’t very eventful either. Our borders expanded slightly, first to the east due to our fledgling culture, and then to the west due to the claiming of the Xipil of Xiuhcoatl.

But it’ll soon be time for settling some new land again. This time it is not only the Cecuecacayotin and Xiuhcoatl who are in need of more land, but also the Achtopochtecapiltzmeh. (@Galren , @chopak and @barkardes must agree on where to settle the next pop - here is a map for it)

Stats have been partially updated, I still have to implement the Quixpix plan. Meanwhile, you can post reactions or propose new laws or something.

"Do you mean the copper?" Cecmiztl, the current leader of the Cecuecacayotin, asked. "I do believe getting access to the copper would benefit the tribe greatly, as I have heard this material is much sharper and harder than stone for our tools and weapons. Would it be reasonable if the Cecuecacayotin, Xiuhcoatl, and Achtopochtecapiltzmeh split this newly acquired land evenly?"

It is most unfair that due to the succession crisis our clan has endured for the past decades, Necuametztli has been neglected in matters of territorial partioning, therefore, we shall hire and send warriors to the land under Zacatla or Cecuahtla. This is only fair, and also most necessary to keep the balance of power between clans.

"Xipil, I do believe that we already have a source of this wood from Quaquahuicalla in Atlauhtipan ((the city)). It would be better to get a new resource rather than another one."
((I may be completely wrong about this, but Atlauhtipan was settled on a lumber tile like Quaquahuicalla (Proof). I assume we get that lumber since we have the technology to harvest it (Source: Civilization 5 logic).))

Cecmiztl then turned to the head of the Necuametztli clan, concerned that they would announce such a drastic action. "Neglected? I do not think you were neglected at all from Quixpix's plan. It's just that the lands of the Atlaticquipiltzmeh were taken by the Yotoli Clan before we could agree on Quixpix's plan. I do not believe that I have heard from the Yotoli Clan for quite some time, so I have no clue if they want to cede land in order to comply with Quixpix's plan. The clan may die out, considering how silent they have been, so I ask for some patience on the issue."

((Paging @happycats517, are you still there? We would like to know if Clan Yotoli would like to comply with Quixpix's plan. Silence will be taken as "Yes, we won't be there anyway."))

Quaquahuicalla looks better than Tepoztepetl as I think again. It would be best if we had more production.Even though I value money,it can wait.Production is something provides my wealth. If there was no production,I wouldn't be able to sell new things.

"You do realize that we can build a mine in order to make it easier to extract the copper," Cecmiztl reminded. "I believe if we invest in a mine, then it would be as useful as the lumber. Plus, we would have to negotiate with the occupants of Quaquahuicalla, the Maximotl."

((If I am doing my math right, a hill is 2 production. So a mine adds 3 production to a hill, which becomes a 5 production tile. If we were to add a mine to a copper tile, that would give us a 6 production, 2 gold tile. That's the same amount of production as Quaquahuicalla, plus it would avoid negotiations with Ironhide and get us some better weapons.))

"Like my ancestors before me," Cecmiztl declared to the necentlaliliztli, "I shall take on the trials of the Tlatoani and see if I am worthy to lead our people." Although he did not show it, Cecmiztl was worried about the trial that failed Ceccuectli: the trial of innovation. He hoped his idea would be much better than Ceccuectli's, but it was hard to tell whether or not his idea was a good one because these things are kept secretive.

((Cecmiztl will use an aggressive battle strategy and a cautious hunting strategy.))

((EDIT: Name corrections.))
