Chapter V: Reign of Tlatoani Cecocelotl
The reign of Cecocelotl was a particularly long one, as he lived till the old age of 87. Throughout his reign, he fought with many of the same problems as his predecessor: Although some progress was made, the Coaxoch and Atlaticquipiltzmeh inheritance issue remained unresolved. Not that Cecocelotl didn't work towards solving it though - unlike his predecessors, he actively took initiative in the Necentlaliliztli to get the chiefs to vote, but nevertheless he fell just short of reaching a majority for his proposal. Also, it was still doubtful if the Yolotli clan, which had occupied the empty lands and houses of the Atlaticquipiltzmeh, would even give up their new land if a decision was reached.
Furthermore, two new inheritance issues surfaced during Cecocelotl's reign. First, the Eztli clan went extinct. A very private clan known for gathering bark in their forested homeland of Nanacatlan whose chiefs almost never showed up to Necentlaliliztli meetings, people barely noticed that they went missing. However, the eastern woods of Nanacatlan had some value due to the particularly fine bark of the trees there, and who would inherit it?
The second inheritance issue pertained to the Xiuhcoatl Clan. This was a very populous clan, and it was far from going extinct, but their leader, the last Xipil, had died before she was able to properly train a successor, and thus she had requested that the Chief of their ally, the Cecuecacayotin, take over the leadership of her clan. But the Cecuecacayotin were already one of the most powerful clans, and the other clans didn't approve of it becoming even larger.
((The inheritance distribution proposal of Quixpix is missing only 1 vote to go through, but will it even be possible to enforce it?))
Clan Tlanextic
The reign of Cecocelotl also saw the improvement of relations with the neighboring states, but this wasn't as much a result of the Tlatoani's work, as it was that of Chief Tonauac of the Tlanextic Clan. He trained all the men of his clan in the martial arts and equipped them with simple bows - a project which had already been begun by his predecessor, whose name was also Tonauac - bringing the total number of warriors of his clan up to around 70.
His warriors accompanied him on many expeditions to the neighboring states to establish trade relations and to watch the size of their armies. While he found out that none of them had any valuable trade goods in any large amounts, his visits at least improved the relations with many kingdoms, and even kings on the other side of the Smoking Sea sent emissaries to Atlauhtipan after having been visited by the expedition of Tonauac. Also, to his relief Tonauac discovered that none of their neighbors had an army that was bigger than that of the Atlauhtipan tribes combined.
When they were not travelling with their chiefs, the Tlanextic men wandered the frozen wastes to the north, east and south. They brought home a lot of game from their travels, hunting everything from small vipers to big bears, and discovering many new lands. they brought home reports of people living in the wastes: On a peninsula to the north-west lived a people that sustained themselves solely from their horse herds, to the north-east dwelt a people who got by through fishing in great lakes rich with all kinds of fish, and far to the east dwelt a people by the great eastern ocean, who presumably also sustained themselves by fishing. Many of these ice tribes built wooden fortifications to protect places with important resources such as obsidian and stone, a strategy which might be adopted by the people of Atlauhtipan.
Lastly, some men returned with some trapped owls, which Tonauac had to decide what to do with.
((one-time boost of +20 food, +12 production to Tlanextic from hunting, Tonauac can choose to keep the owls as pets (+1 happiness, +1 culture per turn), breed them for their fine feathers (+1 wealth, +1 research) or use them as military standards and mascots (+1 xp to new units). Apparently, any clan can claim new land by building a fort anywhere (requires a worker).))
Clan of the Tonatepotztocah
As usual, the Tonatepotztocah had all kinds of projects going on at the same time, most of them failed due to their limited resources. There was an attempt at beginning a mining effort in the mountains, but this proved impossible due to the terrain not allowing the Tonatepotztocah to carry supplies up and down the mountains. The Tonatepottocah were also noted for trying to move all trade of livestock out of Atlauhtipan, but this wasn't very succesful either, mostly due to the only lifestock being traded during the reign of Cecocelotl was a few owls. Their most successful project was that of training the men of the clan in the martial arts; by the time of Cecocelotl's death, they had reached a total of about 40 able warriors.
((you send too many orders, luft! not that it's a problem, but you can never get all of them done. tonatepotztocah recruited 30 archers with cheap bows and finally built a palisade around their own compound in Atzalan, because i found out that was possible. it gives +15% protection, making it a pretty safe place.))
Clan Cuallitechichic
Although the clan leadership sought to focus on increasing the productivity of the clan, their youth would much rather study the use of plants to cure illnesses. In the end, the leadership gave in and helped fund the establishment of a stockpile of these herbs, hoping to sell some of it and make a profit. It didn't prove to be very profitable, but Clan Cuallitechichic soon became known for their expertise and knowledge of medicine.
((Random event for Cuallitechichic: Apothecary guild established! (+5 cultural influence) (-154 wealth for establishing it) ))
Tlatoani Cecocelotl and Clan Cecuecacayotin
In economical matters, the Tlatoani wasn't overly succesful - he lacked the resources for clearing up the government's deficits.
His kinsmen didn't achieve much either, they were too busy digging mine shafts into the Forested Hill west of Zacatla. Although the mines weren't particularly rich in ore, it provided the Snow-Wanderers with some much needed production.
((Settled Cuauhtepetl, the Forested Hill, providing +5 production - not as much as settling Quaquahuicalla, but that place was claimed by the Maximotl Clan))
Clan of Yolotli
The clansmen from the Yolotli Clan expanded their musical activities and built a new music hut at Acaluaccaquixtepetl, where many people came to attend their musical events, which were usually somehow connected to religious rituals and preaching. Their beliefs were widely popular, and many believed in some variation of what had come to be known as the Yolotli pantheon.

--------
So, I'll wait with demanding new orders a bit so that tlatoani Cecocelotl can try and come up with some solutions for the new inheritances and get people to vote for the old ones.
A lot of people didn't send orders this turn, if they miss another turn, their clans, too, will die out!
Also, now that several of you have cultural influence, you can start launching culture votes to change or add to our cultural values and religious beliefs if you do so wish. No-one has majority on their own though, so you have to unite your resources to attain this!
Stats will be updated one of these days.
