Prologue
A long time ago in a galaxy far,
far away...

It is a time of great calamity for the Galactic Republic, as the reforged Sith Empire, having emerged from the shadows with a deadly attack, seems to be unstoppable. Sith victories have been resounding, as the Republic Military, and the Republic as a whole, has been humiliated by an expansive and trained Sith warmachine, capturing Korriban, seizing the riches of the Minos Cluster, and exerting their control over over half of the Outer Rim. The limited successes of the Republic have only served to delay or momentarily exhaust the Sith, and now even the Core Worlds find themselves worried about the ever-encroaching warfront, however, the thought of Sith invasion anytime soon in planets such as Alderaan or Coruscant still seems far-fetched.

The year is 3667 BBY, 14 years since the war began, and the Republic is desperate, urging conscription and increased rates of volunteers to fill their losses. You find yourself swept up in this, assigned, whether voluntary or not, to Arterian Station, a military waystation within the Cirius System, used by the Republic to organize and assign fresh bodies to their respective warzones. You have been given no training, and idea yet of where you shall stationed. What you do know is that the Sith shall not be defeated easily, and that you are being cast into this chaos, engulfed within a galaxy afire...
How To Play
Hello everyone, and welcome to the first ever forum game hosted by me, the ever-fearless, most handsome, Darth Noco. Inspired by previous Star Wars game host, Tapscott, A Galaxy Afire shall be oriented around roleplay, player interaction and choices, and a narrative, with a backdrop of the destructive Great Galactic War. In-Character (IC) posts shall likely be the most important way to influence the story, so I expect you all to regale me your character's quick wit, interesting quips, or utter stupidity.

Signing Up
The first step in joining this adventure will be to post your character using this handy-dandy template:

Name: It's your character name
Age: Must be 18 or older
Race: No droids and please try to make realistic characters (in Star Wars terms), so Hutt conscripts are out
Biography: It's your character biography. No force sensitivity, keep it realistic (in Star Wars terms)

You can pretty much be from any planet, although I expect you all to not make overpowered or super crazy characters, so no backflipping, uberl33t Hutts or super-awesome military warheroes. I encourage diverse and interesting backstories, as well as personality quirks, hot-heads, cowards, and the like. Losing can be fun after all, so they say. Also, to avoid a situation where some players are inherently better, and to avoid this game becoming completely centered on the Force, NO FORCE-SENSITIVES ALLOWED.

IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO SIGN-UP. Although this is narrative-based, and may focus on the existing crew, if you want in, I'll try to find a way to work you in. Please send me a private message if you are joining the game in progress so we can work something out.

IRC Channel

Perhaps provisionally, the IRC channel shall be #StarWarsGame (of which I have been lurking in since the untimely death of Tapscott's game). This may be subject to change if I make my own, but I'll make it known if that happens.

Link: Coldfront
Channel: #StarWarsGame
Instructions:
1) Use the link provided above.
2) Choose the Flash app or the Java app.
3) Create a screen name; it’s recommended that you use your forum name, if available.
4) Close the #coldfront channel that opens automatically.
5) In the command box, type “/join #StarWarsGame” without the quotation marks.
6) You’re in the chat! Welcome!

Game Mechanics

As far as mechanics go, I am, at the start, going in without cumbersome stats, both to encourage RP actions and so I won't go crazy. However, if in the future we reach a point where stats become needed (you guys decide to enter in the tense world of interplanetary furniture commerce), I will work to try them out.

As far as orders, if you want to do something sneaky or something not involving other people, you may message me orders that I will either OK or roll for, depending on the situation. Please try out player interaction first and foremost, and don't spam me with a crazy amount of order, but I understand the need for secret actions.

General Guidelines

  • Pretty standard, no metagaming, powergaming, and the like
  • Keep it PG-13, don't get freaky with it, this is an adventure, not a teenage romp. Some romance is fine
  • Paradox Rules, of course, apply
  • Other common sense rules that I have failed to specifically list out

Name: Fenn Gorsceu
Age: 19
Race: Human
Bio: Fenn was born on the planet Kuat, one of the many core-worlds of the galaxy. Kuat also serves as the main shipyard of the Galactic Republic. His father's identity is unknown, but his mother worked in the Kuat Drive Shipyards to fund the family. Fenn grew up and received an education, but a year after he graduated primary education, he was drafted to join the Galactic Republic's Army to battle the Sith Empire. Fenn was never much of a fighter, he was more of an engineer. Before he was drafted, he had learned a lot about ship-design, what makes a star-ship work, and the inter-workings of most Republican star-craft. It is unknown upon his arrival at the station if he would see combat, for he was better off on a ship then in the middle of a battle on a far-off planet.

Name: Pavik Novar

Age: 27

Race: Human

Biography: Born on Corellia to a solidly middle class family, Pavik, inspired a bit by the ideals of the Jedi, decided he wanted to help people, so he enrolled in medical school. With the war going on, Pavik felt that the easiest way to serve people, and avoid conscription, was to become a combat medic for the Republic. After completing his schooling, he enrolled in the medic program, becoming one. He was then assigned to the 417th Infantry Regiment, and shipped off to some small moon of some strategic importance, called Revodion 4, in the Minos Cluster to help the small Jedi until there.. He was there for three months. During this time the unit was slowly whittled away by skirmishes, bombings, sickness, and desertion. With over 80% of the unit gone, the 417th was pulled out, and disbanded, with the survivors sent to different units. Pavik has spent the time sense being pulled out, about two months, moving from base to base, until finally being transferred to Arterian Station to await further orders.

Name:
Mirta Ordo

Age: 21

Race: Human (Mandalorian)

Biography:

Mirta Ordo, a descendant of Canderous Ordo, was born on the Mandalorian planet Ordo to the Clan Ordo. She had one brother, eight years older than her as per Mandalorian tradition, and was largely raised by her mother who taught her most of her basic skills, both in and out of combat. She was also taught by the Elders in the Mandalorian ideals of loyalty to clan, discipline, courage, and respect for her heritage. At the age of eight she began her five years of military and survival training, and at the age of thirteen she underwent her verd’goten, the traditional Mandalorian rite of passage, and became an adult.

She stayed on Ordo for another three years after her transition to adulthood, as the clan was not a part of the Great Galactic War, eagerly waiting for an opportunity to go earn glory in battle. Finally, on her sixteenth birthday she made the decision to leave Ordo to look for work as a mercenary as soon many other Mandalorians had done. Mirta was given her mother’s old armor and spent the next five years traveling the Outer Rim as a bounty hunter. Times were not always easy and there wasn’t always work, but she knew she could count on a place to stay and a plate of warm food when she found other Mandalorians.

Recently she has been hearing of a Mandalorian gladiator on Geonosis that others were calling Mandalore. What’s more, she had heard some say that is was the Sith that were spreading the rumors and rigging matches in the gladiator’s favor. Angered at the disgraceful treatment of the greatest honor a Mandalorian could aspire to, unable to find good mercenary work, and eager to earn glory in a true war, she traveled to Coruscant to enlist in the Republic’s military. From there she was quickly shuttled to Arterian Station with several other new recruits.

Name: Samar of Bukh.

Age: 18

Race: Jawa

Bio: Born in the desert sands, Samar always looked at the stars and dreamed, while the other children scrabbled around at the dirt. As a member of a Sandcrawler-clan, he made his living through scavenging and trading; while his quiet, bookish (as much as he could be, given the poor range of books in most Sandcrawlers) nature made him a sub-par tradesman, he had an excellent knowledge of droids and a good eye for scavenging, becoming quite skilled and knowledgeable in such matters. Yearning to see the universe, he hitched a passage at Anchorhead to parts unknown, and left Tatooine and his family behind forever for a scavenger's life on Coruscant at the age of 16. In the great libraries of the Republic he learnt the terminology and techniques of the roboticists of the galaxy; but as a vulnerable, shy little figure, he was forced into service in the fight against the Sith, being immediately sent to Arterian Station. Nervous but clever, he is torn between his deep desire to wander and see the universe while fearing for his life in the upcoming war.

Name: James Valento
Age: 25
Race: Alderaanian
Biography: A son of a irrigation farmer in a frontier on Alderaan, he never traveled to the city much, and grew up tinkering on the agricultural droids in his farmstead. At the age of eight, he was the reciever of a deadly flesh-eating disease, like thousands of others, he was expected to die. However, an antitode was concieved unusually fast from the government, and he was the 2451st treated in the entire planet. The surgery, however, also replaced his skin with a metallic alloy, giving him a peculiar appearance.

At the age of fourteen, when the war broke out, he thought he should do something to repay the Alderaan Monarchy, which saved his life. He thought no better then fight against the evil sith for the Republic, and enlisted at the age of twenty one the same of many of his cohorts. Unlike them, he was drafted into the engineering department, not an usual grunt, and has recieved four years of training. Name: Tyber Ranclaw
Age: 21
Race: Human (Corellian)

Biography: Tyber Ranclaw came from a Corellian middle-class family. Tyber’s life was pretty much normal until the age of 16, when he became the local kid that would reprogram and hot wire hoversleds and speeder bikes for money. This simply could have simply been a phase that Tyber grew out of until a local kid and schoolmate crashed a speeder bike into a fruit stand. No one was injured, but to save himself, the kid cut a deal with police to give up Tyber in exchange for community service. Fearing that he might be in some way impressed into military service, Tyber escaped arrest by hot wiring a speeder bike.

With no resources and no one to turn to, Tyber signed on to a local smuggler crew. For the next four years, Tyber learned his new trade using his old skills to make him a valuable crewmember. Finally, after saving of four years worth of pay, Tyber bought an old but highly modified spacecraft (which would be modified time and again by Tyber’s crew). Gathering a small, but highly skilled crew, Tyber set off to begin his own smuggling operation. After a year of smuggling, and modifying his ship, Ghost Merchant, Tyber and the Ghost Merchant began to gain some renown in the Corellian Sector.

Things finally appeared to be turning around when, on one mission, Tyber’s employer for some strange reason turned the entire crew into the Republic. Perhaps it was part of a secret program designed by the Republic to impress skilled individuals into the military, as Tyber and his crew were not the only semi-famous group of smugglers captured by the Republic in recent months. Regardless, Tyber and his crew were convicted on smuggling charges, sentenced to eight years of service into the Republic military, and Tyber's ship the Ghost Merchant was confiscated by the military.

Now Tyber is being transported to Arterian Station to begin his sentence and fight in the war he tried to escape from so many years ago…

Name: Itsyu Haratenae
Age: 21
Race: Nautolan
Biography: Itsyu Haratenae was born to a family off the Nautolan Homeworld of Glee Anselm and grew up on Coruscant. His parent were killed when he was 12 in a mugging gone wrong, that left Itsyu not only alone in a world that spared not a thought to him, but it did so within sight of the Jedi Temple, the famed heart of justice and honour. Itsyu swiftly built up resentment for the Jedi and their high and mighty talk, while they did nothing to help the people from the real problems of poverty and government negligence and corruption. He eked out a meagre existence in the slums, barely living from day to day on odd jobs. He refused to take the charity of others, and he refused to resort to crime to feed himself, since both he associated with those he deemed responsible for the death of his parents. As the war increased in prominence he became more and more pressed for his life as shortages increased from rationing for the war effort, and the hunger that gripped the slums was especially hard for him since he still stubbornly clung to his morals out of spite. Faced with either breaking his convictions or joining the army for a government he hated, but against an enemy who was no better, Itsyu reluctantly agreed to join the Army of the Republic, and was put on a transport to Arterian. If his experience so far was any indication, the food was no better than in the slums, but at least more consistently in front of him at least. And ultimately that was all he cared about.

Name: Neth Fett

Race: Human (Mandalorian)

Age: 23

Bio: Scion of the famous Mandalorian Cassus Fett, Neth Fett was born into a small human family on the planet Concord Dawn. Neth appears as one would expect a Mandalorian to appear, strong and authoritative, however this is merely a cover. Neth is widely known, amongst his Mandalorian brethren of Concrod Dawn, to be a coward hounded by abysmal luck.

Neth was exiled from Concord Dawn a mere week after his 18th birthday, as his gambling debts finally caught up with him. Denounced as a criminal and coward Neth was given two options. Exile or a trial by combat. Neth, without hesitation, chose the former.

It did not take long for the unlucky Mandalorian to wind up, once again, in massive debt, this time to the Hutts. Taken as a slave to pay off his debts by one Waggo Besadii Bargust, or simply called Waggo the Hutt, Neth was kept around as an amusing oddity by the corpulent Hutt of Coruscant. Neth spent over two years in servitude to Waggo the Hutt before he eventually, thanks to his bad-luck, managed to escape to freedom after Waggo got bored and threw Neth to his pet Gorryl Slug. Rather than being slowly and excruciatingly digested over several hours the Slug instead spat Neth with enough force to send him flying out of the pitt. Neth wasted no time in jumping through the nearest window, cutting himself up badly, before running away into the streets of Coruscant.

Using his natural instinct for cowardly behaviour, Neth found a good hiding spot in the slums of the world-city where he unhappily surived for several months. At least, Neth consoled himself, things couldn't get worse. Naturally Neth was proven wrong as he was gang-pressed into the Republic's army one night after having one too many drinks and irritating the wrong people.

Now Neth is on a fast-track to Arterian Station, and is desperatly looking for a way to survive. Perhaps his bad luck will come in handy, or maybe the young Mandalorian could find his bravery in the rage of war. If he fails, an inglorious death awaits him.

Death, regardless of whether it is glorious or not, is something Neth wishes full-heartedly to avoid.

A Tale of Food and War

Mirta sat in the back corner of the mess hall, away from the other new recruits who sat and ate together, trading names and stories. She quietly ate her own meal, clearly uninterested in what the others were doing, even as a few glanced at her with interest. She wore a full set of Mandalorian armor rather than the standard issue republic armor, her helmet resting on the bench beside her. Her red hair just barely reached past her shoulders, framing her face.

Pavik entered into the mess hall a few minutes later, glancing around at all the young, excited faces, knowing that very few had seen the war to come. After getting his standard rations, a delicacy compared to the combat rations they had on Revodion 4. He glanced around the mess hall, full of people. Sadly none of the tables were empty, so he decided to go sit by the Red Headed girl wearing the Mandalorian Armor. He walked over and asked, “May I sit here?” not really caring for the answer.

Mirta nodded, gesturing for him to sit. “If you’d like.” She looked up from her food briefly, eyeing Pavik up as he stood before her, before returning to her meal. “You don’t look as green as most of the new recruits, you’ve seen combat before?”

Pavik nodded as he took a seat, “Short tour of duty in the Minos Cluster”.

She grimaced slightly. “If it weren’t for the Jedi the Republic would have lost Minos without putting up a fight. It was pathetic.” She raised an eyebrow at him, looking up again. “Have you fought alongside the jedi?”

“Indeed I did. The proved vital in holding back the Sith forces. Most of them had been out their longer than any of the grunts”.

“My grandfather told me stories of the Jedi during the Mandalorian wars.” She sipped her glass of water. “He said that if it weren’t for them we would have overrun the republic with hardly any effort, that a single jedi could turn the tide of a battle with their leadership.” She shrugged. “He wasn’t there of course, just telling the stories his grandfather told him, but it’s still impressive to think about. I imagine fighting on of them was a true honor for our soldiers.” She shook her head and offered her hand. “Mirta Ordo, of Clan Ordo. And you?”

“Pavik Novar, Republic Army Medical Corp, formerly of the 417th. I presume you are Mandalorian then. I have met a few other Mandalorians,” He sighs, knowing that she will probably not enjoy that story,”I have not seen any Mandalorians in the Republic, definitely not as Republic Troopers. Why did you join?”

She smirked. “You must not have fought any of my people during your campaign in the Minos Cluster. You would remember our armor without having to ask. I joined to earn glory as my forefathers did. Your war is the only war to fight and I do not find the Sith to be an acceptable ally, so I will fight for you.” She leaned back slightly and returned to eating her meal as she smiled. “And besides, I think I prefer my chances against a Sith over a Jedi.”

With a frown Pavik replies, “While I did not fight any Mandalorians in the Minos Cluster, I did encounter some. The Empire had hired a squad for use as shocktroopers against our lines, and in that role they were quite effective until the Jedi Masters caught up to them. Don’t underestimate the Sith, they killed as many of our troops as the Jedi killed of theirs. The Jedi Knight Acturian Valernia said that the Sith had spent a millenia preparing for this war.”

“Perhaps they’ll make for a worthy opponent then, eh?” She shrugged. “Whatever else your Jedi Masters were able to do, even Mandalore the Ultimate was taken aback by Revan’s skill. Surely you have at least one such master now. If not then perhaps your people can stand up for their vaunted freedom and succeed without the Jedi, though I doubt it.” Mirta took another sip from her drink.

“I have confidence in the Jedi and the Republic’s ability to hold of the Sith. All I know is that one such as you should not look to rush into war. Have you received any orders yet? How did you get your Mandalorian Armor by the officers?”

She smiled as one would at a child. “One such as I? My people are ruled by seeking honor and glory on the battlefield. It’s through combat that we gain our renown, prove our worth, and make our fortunes.” She gestured down to her armor. “This, is part of resol’nare, or the six actions which make up Mandalorian life. I may be fighting for the republic, but I’m still a Mandalorian and I’ll still wear my armor, it’s a part of who I am. And I doubt your officers would turn away genuine beskar iron armor. What do they give you? Flimsy durasteel, some carbon alloy?”

Pavik laughs, “Basically that is what they gave us. Standard armor, although still far better than the conscripts will get. Still, I am surprised, I have met many a stubborn officer in my day who would turn down good equipment if it did not met Regs. Something about unit cohesion. Still, even one with armor as good as you should not rush to war. There is little honor or glory to be one. There is no honor in dying of sickness. There is no honor in dying by a bomb dropped from an Imperial bomber. There is even little honor in losing one's head to the lightsaber of a Sith Lord. Still, I guess your people are crazy in this way, and are far, far better fighters than most in either the Republic or the Empire. It would be an honor to fight alongside you”.

She laughed, clearly amused by the conversation. “And if I were to die in such a way then I wouldn’t have been worthy of any honor, though I can think of far worse fates than dying in battle with a Sith Lord.” She looked up at him. “I cannot say if fighting alongside you will be an honor or not, but at the very least, we share a goal, the defeat of the sith. And so know that I have no intention of putting my own glory ahead of the lives of my comrades.”

“Well, honor was not the most appropriate word. Fun is better. It would be fun to fight alongside someone as crazy as you, although I must admit, I do not do most of the fighting, I heal those who do the fighting. Still, the Sith do not make any distinctions for medics and target us as well, so I have fought some.”

Mirta looked at him seriously. “And if I said it is your people who were crazy? For sitting, so paralyzed with fear that most of your men refuse to willing fight against a threat that would see them all defeated and enslaved? That your republic is content to wallow in stagnation and decadence even as everything you claim to value is at risk?” Her stoic demeanor broke as she started laughing loudly. “You can see why we don’t think much of you, yes? Better as you say, perhaps it will be fun, I was never the best warrior in a squad before back on Ordo, I think I’ll enjoy it.”

Pavik joins her in the laughing, “I still think you all are crazy. Maybe not as crazy as the Senate, but still very crazy. Regardless, either we will get sent somewhere very shortly, or spend the next year shuttling around the Core. I assure you there's no glory here in the Core. Good food, but no glory.”

The Mandalorian furrowed her brow as she thought about that, placing her glass on her empty tray. “If they are conscripting I’d hope they need us somewhere more exciting than the Core Worlds. If not, perhaps they can be convinced to transfer me. I can assure you I won’t spend a year guarding some senator.” She stood up from the bench and grabbed her helmet, placing it so that the distinctive T-shaped visor covered her face. “It was interesting to meet you Pavik Novar, given your profession I don’t expect we'll be seeing each other very often.” She picked up her tray and bowed her head slightly. “I hope you have a good day.”

Pavik nods her goodbye before scoffing to himself about how such an arrogant girl would not last two weeks in real combat. With that he returned to eating his delicious rations.

James was introduced like the others, still hanging around the hangar bay, he was inspecting some of the "Republic's" Arterian Station, it wasn't standard Republic weaponry. This was a training station, however, so he may have been wrong... What he did know that the local Caamasi definitly did not build it, he hardly saw any here, despite being so close to the planet. Despite his attention to detail, he was deadly nervous, sweating slightly. "BzZEP!" His droid buzzed, making James turn surprisingly at the droid, his back to the rest of the room. "What is it, clunker?"

Name: Nayati
Age: 33
Race: Ewok

Biography: Born on the forest moon of Endor many years before the emergence of the Sith Empire, he was abducted by smugglers whilst still a wokling, and later made a pet to some Hutt with a taste for exotic species. After years of torment, and unable to suffer this demeaning slavery any longer, Nayati escaped under cover of darkness; he hid in the forests of Aylayl. Accustomed to having his needs fulfilled by his former master's groundskeeper, he was soon forced to find food and shelter for himself – fortunately for him, the woods seemed happy to provide for his wants, and he eked out a comfortable existence, though the fear of being recaptured by his master was always near his thoughts.

Tiring of this quiet life, and having to constantly evade Hutt gangsters, Nayati travelled to a nearby space-port, and smuggled himself on board the Shalla Yar, which carried him to the Mid Rim world of Kashyyyk; living amongst the wookiees, and often venturing down into the Shadowlands, Nayati honed his skills as a hunter, becoming skilled at stealth and bow-hunting. Even here, he found he was not safe, as a slaving raid by humans and trandoshans convinced to leave on board the first ship he could.

He soon found himself on the Parlemian Trade Route, and shortly thereafter on the planet of Felucia in the Outer Rim; here, Nayati continued to hunt in the exotic wilds of the planet, and even became associated with several bounty hunters who prized his sneakiness. However, the seven year old Ewok soon tired of the planet, and using the credits he had acquired hunting (both animals and sentients), he set out to travel across the Core.

He arrived on Alderaan, and after a short while hunting there, he set off again, planning on travelling to Kuat, then after getting any repairs the small ship (the Getana)he had “acquired” on Felucia done with, he would visit Coruscant, the capital of this Republic he had heard so much about. However, on Kuat, the former owner of the Getana caught up with him, and accused him of stealing the ship; unable to convince the rigged courts that he was innocent of these fallacious rumours, Nayati quickly tried to make an escape. Knowing that trying to reach the Getana would end poorly, he instead fled from Kuat City via a speeder bike he managed to acquire, and after rigging it to keep running (and keep the authorities off of him), he doubled back and planned his next move. Whilst relaxing in one of the many bars in Kuat City, he met a human who called himself “Gorc” who seemed interested in helping him get the Getana back. With Gorc's help, he managed to distract the docking bay guards long enough to sneak into a vent, turn off the tractor field, and escape into space (though it was some careful piloting on his part that helped him evade the authorities).

Nayati knew that heading to Coruscant so soon after escaping from Kuat was not the wisest idea, and instead he travelled to the Outer Rim, to Tatooine, in hopes of finding some less-than-legal means to change some of his ship's credentials. He did indeed find just such unscrupulous businessmen – also found a few Czerka contracts which helped him get the credits he needed for those businessmen. Once the necessary modifications were made (along with a few other secrets Nayati was quite pleased about), he decided to remain on the desert planet and hunt for the rare krayt dragon, which was rumoured to be there. A year of searching, and several unfortunate encounters with the sand people, later, he at last left Tatooine and set course for Coruscant.

His first impressions of the capital were disappointing; too many people, too loud, and too... soulless. However, as he ventured into the under-levels of the city, he began to love, and fear, the wiles and dangers of the city. He found various jobs as a bounty hunter, and occasionally as a night guard of valuable cargo for important men and women – it was during the latter that he had his first run-in with a Jedi, and after being knocked back against a wall by some invisible magic, he quickly decided not to cross them.

After getting his fill of the city (at least for now), Nayati headed off to see the other Core Worlds, eventually reaching Corellia, where he made acquaintances with several rather popularly known smugglers; after a few drinks and bets, he soon agreed to do a few deliveries for them, eager for more credits. Unfortunately, the authorities on Carida, where his last shipment was due, didn't find the allure of credits a convincing reason to let him go; he was arrested and sentenced to three years, which he served joylessly (though joining a ring of gamblers and smugglers in the prison made the stay less miserable).

Leaving prison behind him, he spent the next decade hunting, both game and bounties, and occasionally smuggling for extra credits. It was a good, quiet life.

Everything changed when the Sith Empire attacked.

For some, at least, but not for Nayati; he continued to hunt at his leisure, avoiding war-zones as best he could, though the hunting grounds became sparser and sparser. Eventually, he took to smuggling full-time again, which inevitably led to him getting caught; due to the need for manpower, he was asked to join the Republic Army, which cautiously agreed to – with that, he was shipped off to Arterian Station in the Cirius Station. Having spent the past several months here, with little to do, he's taken to gambling with the other “recruits.”

Name: Dik Daak
Race: Gran
Age: 36
Bio: A distinguished merchant (well "merchant", he was a fence) from Planet Hok, Daak had no real use for the Republic. Indeed, he originally planned to ignore it to his hearts content, and instead con fleeing refugees out of their life savings. However this lovable dream was not to be, as his brother Rak Daak fell in bad with a Hutt over some gambling debts. Rather then pay, the ungrateful bugger decided instead to dumb the debt on his more well off brother before fleeing for open space as fast as his chubby little feet could.

Stuck with an increasingly angry Hutt, his seemingly sadistic henchmen, and an ever growing debt (really, who would borrow at 120% interest per week? Doellin damn you Rak) Dik had but one option. Rig his shop with explosives, told the Hutt to find him there in order to get his payments, and run as fast as he could before the timer blew. So much for family being the most important thing in the world eh?

Dik would have made a good getaway too, if it wasn't for those meddling Republican Soldiers. Faced with a prison sentence in a very hostile planet or join the war effort, Dik tried to take his chances with the Hutt. However his brother took this opportunity to show up again as a lieutenant of the Republican Army (how he got that commission was one of the many questions that Dik had, but he filed it under "bought") and intervened to "help" his brother and "save" him from prison, resulting in Dik getting sent to Arterian Station for deployment.

Ah well, who needs to live and collect such pretty pretty money off the backs of snobs and schmuks? Certainly not Dik, oh goodness no, that'd be too easy.

GM Note: I am loving the characters thus far, keep it up guys, and you're welcome to IC already. I'm going to have the first update of sorts later tonight, which will propel us towards leaving Arterian, so if there's still people joining up, post 'em soon, or leave a reserve post so I know there's more people in-bound.

Remember though, it's never too late to join, I'll try to work in late-comers to the party.

Name:
Haru Comina
Race: Human (Corellian)
Age:
23
Bio:

Haru was born 23 years ago in the great planet of Corellia. Her parents were middle class and more importantly , high rank members of the Ensterite Sect from Corellia. As such Haru was raise with a distrust of anyone not from Corellia, be it aliens or humans, for the most significant tenet is one must marry someone from the Corellian system. Her parents being more strict adherents even claimed should be someone from the Planet Corellia itself.

As Haru grew the war started and became simply part of the normal live, something that happened in the far outer rim worlds, until it was no more. One day her drafting ticked came and all ended for her. No more parties, no more fun, no more beloved Corellia, now she had to go on and fight for some stupid aliens. Worse of all she had to live and fraternize with them. How things could be worse?!

Oh not to mention Haru isn't very skillful...in anything just a regular girl if not on the side of incompetent, all that she have is charm and a nice butt.

Name:
Talia Addaris
Born: 3689 BBY (22)
Race: Human
Biography:

Talia was born in the capital of the Galactic Republic, Coruscant, in 3689 BBY. Although she doesn’t like to talk about her past, from what little she reveals it is known that her family was quite poor. Her father was a miner who was often off-world, and her mother worked many odd jobs to make ends meet.

A curious and adventurous child who was left with quite a lot of time on her hands and little to entertain herself with, it is not surprising that Talia fell in with the wrong sort of people at quite a young age. By the time she was in her teens she had became deeply immersed in the seedy underbelly of the city planet; at age fifteen, she became a member of one of many gangs of thieves and smugglers that operated in her area of the planet, and for four years she and others smuggled illicit goods onto and off of Coruscant under the noses of the authorities.

When she was nineteen, however, she was forced to flee her home world after a badly botched smuggling operation in which most of her friends were either arrested or killed. For three years she was a drifter, travelling from one system to the next without direction, and leaving a trail of theft and petty crime in her wake. However, she was apprehended by authorities on Corellia following the attempted robbery of a diner.* The police discovered her identity and threatened to put her in prison for fifteen years for her accumulated criminal acts. However, the war with the Sith Empire was demanding more and more soldiers and resources, and the Republic had decreed that no person could be spared. They offered her a choice: join the war effort as a new recruit, or rot in prison. Unsurprisingly, Talia took the former option.

* When asked why she'd tried to rob the diner, Talia is known to have replied: "What else was I supposed to do? I was hungry."
