Truly, I cannot understand what force compelled my brother to take such action.

Brother Stannis, see reason. It is not House Stark who have betrayed our brother, usurped our rightful throne and cast our royal house into paupery. Why weaken a friend and strengthen a foe? The Lord of Winterfell seeks only justice for the murder of his father. The Lannisters are the bane of all, the spider at the centre of the King's Landing, spitting their poison into the ears of the people. We must renew our efforts against them, not squabble amongst ourselves.

We call upon Our brother to remove his men from White Harbour and bring them to bear against the Lannister rebels.

~ His Grace, Renly of House Baratheon, the First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Realm

299AL Q2 - A Cause Divided

Once again, King Robb of the North exceeded expectations in his war against the Lannisters. Thanks to a path found by his Direwolf, Grey Wind, a contingent of his forces bypassed the rocky hills of the Westerlands, including the castle of the Gold Tooth, and ended up in the middle of the Westerlands without issue. Luckily for Ser Stafford Lannister, the local leader, he was not in the path of this surprise attack and most of his army was spared - they were recovering from the Ironman attack at the time in Casterly Rock. He promptly took the Fortress of Ashemark, was it was certainly possible that the North could win this war, so long as no major mistakes were made.

The surprise attack by King Stannis upon the North caused tremendous peril and argument within the ranks of all armies. Within the men of the North, it only furthered the growing faction that wished for total separation from the Iron Throne. The Manderlys, driven from their homes from what was seen as a marauding raiding fleet, became especially jaded - despite their links to the south through ancestry and religion, even they could not deny the Iron Throne had caused them more harm than good. The sentiment was shared in the Riverlands, with resentment for both Lannisters and Royal troops running high - as such, hostilities began to open again in the Riverlands as . The Northmen only had two options left to them - Renly, or the King in the North.

Tomasz_Jedruszek_Wardens_from_the_Reach.JPG

Knights of the Reach, riding on the flanks of the Roseroad.

Luckily on this front, King Renly had all intentions to take the throne and keep it. Despite the relatively minor embarrassment at sea, most men outside of King's Landing, and some inside who wished to lack a head, considered the Iron Throne as good as taken. The taking of White Harbour was effectively ignored in the capital, as the more pressing concern was the "Rosy Horde" marching eastward. Whilst King Renly's Stormlords marched from Summerhall and made camp around the south wall of King's Landing, Lord Mace Tyrell took the Roseroad. Any hope of breaking the siege by sea was blocked by King Stannis's blockade from the opening of the Blackwater.

The King's Treasury immediately promised hefty rewards for blockade runners and any pirates who harassed Stannis's fleet, yet this uncovered yet another problem for King Joffrey's war effort. The Crown lacked funds, and with the Lannisters still reluctant to pay the hefty debts of the Throne it fell on another loan from the Iron Bank of Braavos. Unfortunately for Joffrey's Master of Coin, Lord Petyr Baelish, any attempts to contact the Iron Bank were met with sternness and impatience. Word was beginning to spread of the Bank's alleged support of Stannis's claim, which needless to say was a blow for the other claimants.

I serve the one true Ruler of Westeros.

- Message left by Ser Barristan Selmy to an emissary of King Renly, which has since been spread around the entire Kingdom. It is unknown whom he refers to, but many sides have taken this as proof of the famed Knight's devotion to their own cause. He has not since been found.

OOC: I don't think so. Littlefinger might be a vassal of Robert's on paper, but doesn't answer to Lysa. Not many notable non-vassals in the Vale. Except maybe Mya Stone (Robert's bastard daughter) who seems to be well known, yet living as a de facto peasant.

OOC: In the books, Doran Martell says the common figure of 30,000 for the Dornish army is a massive overestimation, a myth they've cultivated over the years to seem stronger than they really are. Without a significant number of sellswords, I'd say somewhere between 15 and 20 thousand might be better.

Also, did I capture the Golden Tooth, or is it besieged? And were my non-military orders of any purpose at all, or would you rather I just left that stuff out in the future?

Any person who delivers my sister Arya safely to my forces will be greatly rewarded.

The performance of my troops and their leaders fills me with pride. I trust they will continue to excell in the coming campaigns.

((That's the first figure I was going to go with, so I may drop it back down to 20,000.

Golden Tooth is besieged. The non military orders have been noted, just not overtly shown. Roose and Umber are raiding the Westerlands, but are ready to move with your army when ordered to))

Game-of-Thrones-Stark-Symbol.jpg

By decree of Robb Stark, King in the North:
I vow by the Old Gods and the New, that the city of White Harbor will be rescued, and its desecrated Sept rebuilt. I ask that the Faith take up a special collection for that purpose and for the relief of the common people of the city.

Lords throughout the North will be recieving orders to raise more forces for the defense of the realm. Though it gireves me to pull still more men from their homes and fields with Winter fast approaching, I assure you that they will not be kept in the field a moment longer than necessary.

The person who returns Arya Stark to her family will recieve gold, honors and land, and all the other benefits that come from the gratitude and friendship of a King. The same reward shall be given to anyone who delivers Sansa Stark from the grip of the Lannisters.

I recognize King Renly Baratheon as the rightfull heir of Robert Baratheon, on the grounds that Joffrey and his brothers are the illegitimate products of incest, and Stannis has clearly fallen into madness and is unfit to rule. This does not mean I accept him as the overlord of the North and the Riverlands.

OOC: Is the Riverlander fleet sea-worthy, or limited to the rivers?

The vale awaits the response from the lord paramount of the westerlands and joffery himself as to the north's claims of bastardy on the iron throne before deciding who is the legitimate heir of king Robert but the north speaks truth as to the madness of lord stannis

While the Brave lord "bronze" Yohn Royce was unfortunatly unable to meet with lord paramount Doran of Dorne, he has performed honorably in the endeavor and the vale hereby appoints him marshal of the vale's troops and leader of her armies, may he lead them to victory

(ooc: no that was not intentional, I sent him as an emissary along with a message and recived no response or any indication that he had arrived/talks were beginning, the gout comment was flavor text which i have now removed, i did not get any info as to bronse yohns reliability and assumed that he was under my control as a non npc vassal
ps: where is the narrow sea, i dont see it on my map)

250px-House_Arryn.PNG

any insult that lord paramount Doran "the magnificent" of Dorne has interpreted from Our recent announcement was tragic and unintentional and his comments as to the loyalty of bronze yohn are concerning, the vale wishes only friendly relations with dorne and invites doran to send an emmisary to the eyrie to discuss the potential of further cooperation

OOC: The narrow sea is the analog of the English Channel, seperating Westeros from Essos. It's the body of water to the east, particularly the south east, in which Dragonstone is found. At some point to the North of the Vale it becomes known as the Shivering Sea

http://gameofthrones.net/images/Westeros_Maps/map_of_westeros.jpg

A good reference map, might be worth including a link in the first post.

Ravens arrive in holdfasts across the vale bringing grim tidings, dark wings dark words; the vale is on the move. the vale, once content to sit back and watch the war of five kings now feels compelled to take a stand in order to ensure the safety of the vale, its people, and its gods.
a raven is sent to the great lords of the realm:

250px-House_Arryn.PNG

once secure in its neutrality, the actions of the usurper stannis baratheon against the north and the people of white harbor, a people that had done him no harm and wished him no ill will, a people who were not his enemies yet died at the end of his blade nonetheless. no ultimatum was issued, no quarter was given, there was no warning or reason behind his actions. So long as this madman roams the seas of westeros no neutral power can be assured of its safety from his marauder band of thieves and onion knights, and the vale cannot stand by when its people are threatened by such as they. the vale does not tolerate threats toward his people.

stannis has abandoned the gods of north and south in favor of a heathen god, and he desecrates all that we hold dear, we of the faith will not bend the knee to heathen gods and urge any of stannis's vassals who hold true to the almighty seven to revoke their support of he who would burn your gods.

while the vale is not concerned with who sits the iron throne or weather the north is independent, stannis poses a threat to all people of westeros regardless of where their allegiance lies.

as the warden of the east it is our duty to protect the eastern shores from all threats, and it will uphold its obligation to the realm, regardless of whoever leads it or the threat it faces

the vale hereby declares against Stannis baratheon and will aid its family in the riverlands and north in expelling this foreign invader from the shores of white harbor although it must refrain from its conflict with the iron throne

-lady Lysa Arryn of the Vale and Riverlands, regent of the vale, Warden of the east, defender of the realm and protecter of the faith

(ooc: just to clarify the vale is not joining in the war for northeren independence, but will aid the north in expelling stannis, it is still undecided as to weather renly or joffery is the rightfull king of the iron throne, it doesnt care about the iron islands either, so long as they refrain from attacking the vale)

Lord Bolton, I need to speak with you privately at once. OOC: Your inbox is full, empty it at once, very important!

I suggest that Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey's wedding be held at Riverrun as soon as it is safe. It is somewhat irregular for the groom's family to host, but considering the poor health of Edmure's father, and the fact that duty requires most of his family and many Frey's to be in or near Riverrun, it seems the most practical. As a bonus, the presence of so many brave and distinguished knights and lords can only add to the grandness of the occasion. Obviously it will have to wait until the Lannister force in the Riverlands is defeated.

To Lord Leo Lefford of the Golden Tooth: If you surrender your castle, I give you my word that you and your men will be treated honorably. Your household will be placed in the care of Lothar Frey (commonly called Lame Lothar), who is married to your niece Leonella, until either the war is over or an equitable prisoner exchange is negotiated. I urge you to spare your people the horrors of a prolonged siege or bloody assault. The Lannister cause is not worth their lives or yours.
