2284 September-December Update

With peace being declared between the NCR and Legion, Hanlon now begins moving NCR citizens to Californian locations south of Boulder City. Although half of the Dams output was supposed to go to the Legion Hanlon uses an executive order to ensure that the output of the Dam does not change from at all. In mid-October Hanlon takes Bear Force One to Zion were he meets with the Burned Man and the two famed warriors come to an agreement. The New Canaanites are now being supplied with cheap Californian arms giving them an edge against the White Legs. In return NCR businesses are allowed to exploit the untouched resources of Zion National Park. In California itself the government begins ordering the construction of factories and finds laborers in order to reopen several mines. This move means that in a few years they will be able to out produce any other nation in the west.

[Output of Hoover Dam remains the same as it did pre treaty, -10,000 caps, -50,000 caps, Factories and mines ½ done, 1 turn to completion]

General Lee traveled back to California following the peace treaty with the Legion. Upon arrival he was greeted by a celebrating crowd which thanked him for his services in the Mojave. Moving his headquarters to Shady Sands he continued training the Californian army in melee combat. On the orders of President Hanlon, Lee oversaw the construction of a new solar power plant in Southern California. Things go well but construction may take up to two years to finish. Hearing rumors about the destruction of the Enclave Lee sends a team of rangers north to investigate. They return home with conformation of the destruction of Portland Bunker though otherwise empty handed.

[-40,000 caps, NCR Army Melee training complete, -50,000 caps, Power Plant ¼ done, 3 turns to completion]

Caesar dispatches his extraordinarri to ravage Elijah’s officer corps though due to a hyped up sense of security following the assassination attempt on Elijah it becomes very hard to get close enough to kill any officers. Caesar also dispatches small bands of frumentarii to harass Elijah’s supply lines. These raids are highly successful but one of the bands returns with extremely disturbing news. A liberty prime class robot was spotted approaching Cabo carrying what looked to be around 100,000 caps on its back. In the Legion heartland the bureaucracy continues to be revitalized and is now back at its status pre revolt.

[+15,000 caps, -15,000 caps Elijah, -30,000 caps, +15,000 income]

Legate Lanius continues leading his legion south towards Cabo. Using scouts to check the roads ahead and insure that things look safe the armies pace quickens significantly. Eventually reaching Cabo to do battle there to their surprise a Liberty Prime is sighted. Instead of attempting to take the city in a costly frontal assault Lanius instead surrounds the city. His hope is to starve the defenders out although this will take some time. Back in Arizona the other half of the Legion has been busy pacifying the populace and things now look much like they did before the revolt. The Legate has masterminded a new program buying slaves and indoctrinating them creating a caste higher then slaves but lower then soldiers. This practice has proved to be very unpopular among the remaining slaves who see it as unjust, as a result of this they have been very unproductive over the past few months.

[Legion is besieging Cabo, 1 turn to surrender, -15,000 caps, +5,000 income]

In Vegas House has been very busy. Buying huge amounts of scrap metal he has begun production on 3,000 new units of MKII securitrons. This order will take almost a year to complete. House displeased over the NCR Legion treaty sends his liberty prime and 100,000 caps to Cabo were he wants the robot to assist in the coming battle. Lastly in an act which will trigger a war between the Legion and Vegas House, dispatched 1,000 securitrons across the Mojave. Catching Legion soldiers unaware Legion positions from Hoover to Mesquite fall into House’s hands. NCR troops at Boulder and Hoover Dam are shocked when they see House’s robots mowing down their Legion counterparts.

[-60,000 caps, +1,000 MKII securitrons, -100,000 caps, +100,000 caps Elijah, -3,000 Legionnaires, -500 MK II Securitrons, Legion loses all territory west of the Colorado, House gains former Legion positions]

Jenna Monroe head elder of the Midwestern Chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel begins September by ordering 500 paladins and 2,000 knights to the northern border. Were they are immediately tested coming under sporadic sniper fire from mutant positions further north. In addition she sends a few teams of scouts north to probe mutant defenses. They report that the regular mutant should be nothing to worry about it’s the nightkin that should be the chapter’s real concern. This is because the Brotherhood at this time has nothing to counter them. Back in Bunker Alpha 500 recruits are trained into real soldiers by the knights on duty there.

[-30 Paladins, -150 Knights, -5,000 caps, +2,000 knights]

Seeking something beyond the extent of the Nevada, the Mojave Chapter sends forth a scout due east, tasked with something unbeknownst to observers. While hopes for a swift return are had, the scout is yet to return. A flurry of activity is found within Goodsprings again, as the city is expanded, the city walls rising higher seemingly every day. Although quite a cost, the citizens feel safer from the harsh wastes. Five-hundred Paladins, alongside thirty Knights, march north along the Long 15 Highway. The region, infested with Powder Gangers, has long been lawless, a nuisance to locals and stronghold of criminal activity. Although the original plan entailed an attack on the Powder Gangers, and a besieging of Vault 19, the Brotherhood was surprised at a near-immediate surrender, as the Powder Gangers, smarter than was believed, had to no intentions on being exterminated by superior firepower.

[+10,000 income to Mojave Chapter, Walls 1/2 done, -15,000 caps from Mojave Chapter, 1 Turn till scout’s return]

Dedicated to their forays into the world of science, the Mutants of Jacobstown strike a deal with the Followers of the Apocalypse, exchanging information of Duraframe Eyebot technology and ED-E datafiles, in return for the Followers’ expertise and monetary compensation. Satisfied, the agreement is finalized, with both sides benefitting. A stunning discovery is found by Jacobstown researchers, establishing a historic moment for Supermutants, the long awaited completion a cure, mending the fissures of Supermutant intelligence so oft found lacking. Tests, repeated for confirmation, show success, with a marked improvement the mind, opening new possibilities for the once-dim future of Mutantkind. A salvage expedition, organized by Jacobstown, goes smoothly, with nary a thing of note.

[+25,000 caps to Jacobstown, +1 order to next research order, Cure for Supermutant stupidity completed, -10,000 caps from Jacobstown, +20,000 caps to Jacobstown, -20,000 caps from Legion]

FEV Implants, a subject of much scientific examination by the old Enclave, are thoroughly researched by the Union, with clinical application prepped and ready to go. A project of little importance is finished, with only the Union apparently knowledgeable. Utilizing a clear advantage over the backwater tribals bordering the superior Union territories, rapid expansion into Washington, Idaho, and Montana is achieved with little to no losses reported. Union generals are well congratulated in such triumphs, as the Union itself expands.

[-20,000 caps from Union, FEV Implant research completed, Project “X” completed, +5,000 income to Union]

Far away from the potato farms of Idaho, another project of similar obscurity is finished, this one by Elijah and his followers. Firing up his rhetoric, Elijah inspires a sense of haste and fervour into his followers, uplifting them spirituality, at least he claims, and physically. Soon enough, what was once 3,000 followers became increasingly trained soldiers, an improvement for sure. With Cabo under a Legion siege from the Monster of the East, the Golden Bull flying high in the sky, mixed emotions of hope and despair could be seen in her defenders. That was, until Liberty Prime, a repurposed Communist-squashing robotic soldier arrived. With immense offensive capabilities, and a cash prize in tow for Elijah, the balance of power violently shifted away from Lanius’ Legion.

[Project “X” completed, -20,000 caps from Elijah, -30,000 caps from Elijah, +3,000 guards, -3,000 followers]

Making good use on their New Californian friendship, the Mormons and their less-civilized allies purchase service rifles from merchant Gun Runners. Skirmishes in the future will showcase great strides in Mormon armament. Sensing valuable exploitation opportunities in Zion Canyon, mineral scouts are dispatched, searching for minerals of worth. Sure enough, a literal gold mine of wealth is found, providing a bountiful harvest. Many speculate that increased work on mining can provide greater yields. Confident, the Mormons launch an attack against the aggressive White Legs tribe. Expectations, derived from initial success, fall flat as the momentum of battle stalls, and blood is shed on both sides. Despite Mormon efforts, Salt-Upon-Wounds, Chief of the White Legs, escapes along with most of his tribe towards the south, into Legion lands. Tallying the casualties, sorrow is well felt in the numerous losses.

[-10,000 caps from New Canaanites, +1 on combat rolls, +10,000 income to New Canaanites, More available if optimized, -500 tribal raiders, -75 Mormons, -500 Tribal Raiders (White Legs), White Legs flee south into southern Utah]

Diligent in his efforts of self-preservation, the elusive assassin Slade, spends time refining his techniques and training. Increasing his agility across the ruins of the Mojave, and fortifying his mind through scenarios found within a purchased Pre-War book. Effects are quite evident, and it is concluded that his time was well spent indeed, as the next to face the blade of Slade will face off against an expert. Perhaps this training was also demonstrated on the job as well, as news from The Strip makes headlines, even earning a ten-minute piece from the beloved Mister New Vegas. While many reports are sketchy, one thing is clear - Big Sal and Nero, bosses of the Omerta family, have been murdered. Official word from Gomorrah employees was scarce, given their shady backstory, but various guests provided their own accounts of a “sword-wielding maniac” who somehow evaded the front desk guard, entered into the casino, and “sliced that weasel Nero across the waist, and decapitated Big Sal like an animal.” Strip authorities are baffled.

[-1,000 caps from Slade, Increased speed, +1 on escape rolls, +50,000 caps to Slade, Big Sal and Nero are dead, Gomorrah under new management]

Overseer Moreau looked at the papers that had been delivered to her. So it looked like Union had made an agreement, a simple job, and in return they would possibly get access to something that could ensure that there would never be any food shortages within the Union.

She sighed and put down the papers. She missed Portland and she missed the Enclave. Yet the Enclave was about to go extinct, despite having the most superior tech of the wasteland. But they were left crippled after the many losses suffered. First they had been destroyed on the west coast by the vile NCR, who had later attacked them unprovoked, apparently for matters that were in a distant past, before she was born. And later by the foul Brotherhood of Steel, who destroyed her home in Raven Rock, thereby removing Enclave presence from the east. Now all she could do was to turn Union strong, so that they would never again suffer such injustices.

Epilogue

In the NCR under the leadership of President Hanlon the industrial heartland of the NCR was expanded, making the New California Republic the most powerful economic entity in the wasteland. And within a few years a solar power plant was built in Baja large enough to make up for the loss of the Dam. General Oliver returned home from the Mojave a hero after sparing the NCR another war in the region by refusing to march on Vegas and attack House. Within the next decades the NCR continued to prosper eventually incorporating all of Oregon and Washington as states in the Republic. President Hanlon died at age 94 of a heart attack and was replaced by another veteran of the Mojave campaigns, then colonel now President Hsu. Corruption continued to be a large problem in the Republic which eventually began to threaten the idea of democracy itself. Though as the years past bruised and battered the NCR continued to defend the old world values of liberty justice and freedom in the wasteland.

The battle of Cabo was as bloody as it was decisive. Lanius ordered his Legion to assault the town only to be attacked in the rear by cultists dressed in power armor. This lead to the attack being called off to give the Legion time to regroup and deal with this new threat. Only with the arrival of thousands of Brotherhood troops was the attack renewed. This time with 6,700 Brotherhood knights paladins and recruits the attack was almost unstoppable. As the battle progressed and the cultists began to give ground Elijah started looking for a way out. The Liberty Primes final action was to break the siege lines long enough to allow Elijah and 2,000 followers to escape south into the desert. Then armor piercing missiles fired by Union super soldiers brought the robot down. With Elijah gone Cabo quickly surrendered and all of its people and defenders were put to the sword and the town burned. Lanius then marched this new army north towards Vegas. After fighting at the dam and north at Mesquite House’s forces retreated within the walls of their great city. The besieging army was soon joined by the full strength of the Mojave chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel and forces on both sides prepared for a fight. On the night of January 1, 2286 the assault on the city began. The fighting was brutal going house to house street to street. House’s forces fought valiantly wiping out entire commands but within 3 months House’s forces had retreated to the Strip. On the morning of the 23 of April 2286 news broke from the strip that Vegas had surrendered after a coup launched by a Mr. Enigma leader of the White Glove society had killed House. Lanius wanted Enigma dead but Caesar named him his spy master. In the years following the Legion continued to rebuild eventually moving its capital to New Vegas. The Legion faced its greatest challenge when Caesar passed away an old wrinkled man. Both Lanius and Enigma wanted the throne and both were willing to die over it. In the bloody civil war the ensued Enigma arose the winner after sleeper agents in Lanius’s staff stabbed him to death as he slept. Enigma now leader of a shattered Legion rebuilt the nation and expanded its hold south into Mexico. . Now a days rumors circulate from Nevada that the heir of Caesar son of a Legion slaver Zenobia is gathering his forces preparing to reclaim a throne that is rightfully his.

The Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel eventually managed to defeat the Super Mutant menace which had plagued them for so many years. But because of their open stance towards recruitment they were disregarded by the other chapters of the Brotherhood of Steel who had a more purist view towards things like recruitment. As tensions mounted skirmishes began between members of the Texas Brotherhood of Steel and the Midwester Brotherhood. This threatened to develop into an all-out war until a bigger threat presented itself. Hordes of Union super soldiers marching down from Idaho and began a war which would last two decades between the Brotherhood and Union. In the early days of the war the Midwestern Brotherhood is in all out retreat and disarray desperate for help a message is sent to the Texas Brotherhood promising to change the chapters policies to more purist ones once the war is over if the Texans help in the Midwest’s time of need. The Texans bitter as they may be toward the Midwest agree to help and with this influx of well-trained battle hardened recruits the Union is stopped just south of Chicago. Here the Brotherhood forces resoundingly defeat the Union super soldiers and the Brotherhood drives west into Montana. The advance was only halted by a harsh winter which stopped the assault in its tracks. The following Spring the Union lead its attack south east breaking through brotherhood lines and taking Chicago. Thus began a series of attacks and counter attacks in which one side took Chicago only to have it retaken within a few months. By the year 2310 both sides were exhausted and a truce was declared leaving the Union in possession of Chicago and the Midwestern Brotherhood increasingly reliant on Texas.

After the Legion Vegas war the Mojave Brotherhood of Steel Chapter was significantly stronger then it had been at the outbreak of the war, laying claim to many of the suburbs surrounding Vegas and, gathering taxes from these places. Following the skirmish over REPCONN ONE tensions had run high between the supermutants and the men of the Mojave Brotherhood. With the mutants at Jacobstown growing stronger every year with an influx of immigrants from all across the wasteland and the recruitment of new units of nightkin Jacobstown had never been stronger. War seemed on the horizon until cooler heads prevailed in both Jacobstown and Hidden Valley Bunker. An agreement was reached and the two communities worked together and developed a profitable trading relationship with each other. As the years past both parties contributed to the construction of a rocket ship capable of going all the way to the moon and back. Elder McNamara died an old wise man and had a reputation of being one of the most beloved elders in the chapter’s history.

Huh, I had been writing a Fallout forum game of my own and didn't realize this was going on. Would anyone be interested in playing one set in Fallout 2's time period, or is it too soon?

Cool, I'll probably post it within the next 2 days. I'm pretty inexperienced with games on this forum - do players usually coordinate things within the game, or does everyone pretty much go at it alone?

I would join, though I've never played Fallout 2.

As for coordination, it depends on the players from my experience. Some try t work together with alliances, while others stick to themselves.

Cool, I'll probably post it within the next 2 days. I'm pretty inexperienced with games on this forum - do players usually coordinate things within the game, or does everyone pretty much go at it alone?

Most games got IRC channels set up (you can use coldfront) where players/GM meet up, and where much coordination will take place. Some do things alone, some cooperate. In some cases cooperation can be the difference between success and failure. For instance in this game BoS, Jacobstown and NCR ganged up on me and annihilated what I thought was my best protected base. And as you can see in some of the posted epilogue, Legion and BoS (and Union played a minor part by taking down Liberty Prime) ganged up to take down the Mad on Power, Mr. House.
