The Sons of Liberty February 21st-March 1st 2290
Shatner was given his marching orders and immediately acted to carry them out. Readying his squad he had them grab their equipment and immediately they began the journey through the bombed out streets of New York. Not traveling in the streets where they'd be open and vulnerable they instead went through the buildings which had been left standing passing between the walls in order to reach their destination.
Arriving at the site of the ambush a few hours early Shatner deployed his squad. Sending four of his squad members down the road while having the rest set up mines where they were the trap was set. An hour later something completely unexpected happened. The information which the commander had given Shatner told him that the slavers would be coming on foot however when an armored vehicle come down leading what looked to be three squads of slavers Shatner was taken be surprise however the situation was already out of his control.
The armored car patrolling along hit a mine which blew out both of its front tires and killed both the driver and officer sitting in the passenger seat. That was when Shatner opened up with his AK shooting at the soldier on the armored cars gun he emptied a third of the clip into the guy. All down the street the squad opened up firing at slavers from second or third story windows in the bombed out husks of buildings. Taken by surprise the men in the street at first tried to get behind cover some of them using their prisoners as human shields. Others began returning fire towards the windows and others ran ahead only to have their legs blown off by mines.
One of the officers on the enemy side was a quick thinker and ordered the remnants of his squad into Shatner's building. They rushed onto the first floor killing one of the guerrilla fighters with a knife. Shatner and the other man in his building quickly turned their attention away from the street and towards the stairs. Aiming down them they waited with anticipation for their enemies to come creeping up however they didn't. Instead a grenade greeted them blowing both men off their feet three slavers rushed up the stairs. Shatner still reeling had enough sense to unholster his nine millimeter and begin firing however blindly down the stairs.
With a lucky shot he managed to hit two of them and the third one was taken prisoner. Quickly readjusting himself Shatner looked back onto the street where pools of blood were spreading and bodies littered the cracked pavement. A few odd slavers still stood however the men they had been escorting had armed themselves and turned on their former captors. Sporadic firing could still be heard from down the road where some of his men were posted however the battle was over. Leading his prisoner down the stairs he hailed the would be slaves and told them to come with him.
Then calling his men out of their buildings took stock of what was left of his squad. Two of his men where dead and another one had taken a bullet to the shoulder and would need to be carried back to the base. However eight prisoners had been taken and it would be up to them to carry the wounded and union dead on the way home. Shatner also decided to do some looting with his men. Finding the (at this point) horribly burned officer who had been riding in the passengers seat of the vehicle he took scavenged the mans sidearm which happened to be a laser pistol. He wouldn't get much practical use out of it as the Union wouldn't have ammo for such a weapon however it did look pretty cool.
After a speedy journey home the men arrived back at base where the slavers and prisoners were taken in for questioning and wounded received treatment. It was then up to Shatner to inform the families of the two dead men of what had happened. Dreading the entire affair he did his duty briskly and then reported to the Captain on the mission. After giving the report the man seemed genuinely happy and congratulated Shatner giving him and his squad a few days of rest before he would give them their next assignment.
On the morning of the first Shatner woke to see the execution of the slavers he had taken prisoner accused of the crime of enslaving another human being they were shot and subsequently hung from the front of the building.
[-2 men, 1 wounded. Killed 25 slavers]
