Ground Situation:
Alpha - The defending units could not repel the enemy advance and had to retreat.
Bravo - An enemy attack was stopped with only light casualties. During this situation, the group under Sergeant George Kelly from C-Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment performed a flanking maneuver to put pressure on the enemy troops. During this action, Sergeant Kelly personally killed three enemies and wounded another two with a successful attack on an entrenched enemy position. When retreating to the own lines again, Sergeant Kelly found two wounded members of another group, rescued one himself despite still being under enemy fire and ordered a MedEvac for the second soldier. For conspicuous gallantry at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty Battalion CO recommended Sergeant Kelly for the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Charlie - Despite a heavy assault of the enemy, the frontline could be held.
Delta - Elements from all three Regiments were in position to start a major offensive in the sector, when an enemy counterattack surprised the still moving units. The commanders could not restore order fast enough and some territory had to be given up again.
Echo - An enemy attack was stopped with heavy casualties on both sides.
Foxtrot - 1st Regiment opened hostilities in the sector and could regain lost ground in the eastern part of the sector.
1st Division suffered 100 casualties, thereof 30 dead, and received 60 replacements. The enemy had probably higher casualties.
