With the new Chancellor chosen, ready to set up the new government, Friedrich felt pleased with himself on his first decision as Head of State. However, after immediate out-lash from the far-right DNVP, Friedrich sighed and walked outside of the Reichstag to get some fresh air. Waiting there were two schoolboys, sons of SPD members waiting for their fathers. The two boys soon recognized and nervously shook Friedrich's hand. "Mr. Ebert," one of the cheerful boys said. "What is going to happen to Germany now that the war is over?"
"By my word, my promise, my honor, Germany will be democratic. It is not making Germany a democracy which is hard, it is keeping it one. In that building over there, lies the heart of Germany's legislative branch. Yet, it unfortunately remains divided. Some parties support rely on weakening other ones, and making claims and raves that surely never holds true. Some even promise things that we already do, but plan to do it "better" than we can. Others, however, rely on their achievements, their accomplishments, their goals, and loyal members and supporters to run a political party. With the SPD party in power, we have proof of our progress! Across the World, democracy is rising as the very best system of government. Germany, as the best nation of the World, should and shall become democratic. The war, provoked by aggression, has only slowed this progress. The "stab-in-the-back" myth invented by the far-right has also slightly slowed our progress of democracy and freedom. Ask yourself, who is really betraying Germany?"
"But in our darkest hour, a new light shines over the horizon, a new German Republic, a greater Germany!"
When Friedrich looked around, the group of two boys had became a small crowd. Ebert waved and dismissed the crowd, then reentered the Reichstag.
