Early 1952
Thailand - Zhou Enlai, Foreign Minister of the People`s Republic of China, repeatedly visited the capital Bangkok in order to improve the relations between the PRC and the government of Thailand. The result was a treaty concerning mutual trade faciliations. It is believed, that that the PRC will now try to further strengthen its influence in southeast Asia.

Syria - Probably as a result of the strengthened ties to the Republic of France, the recent elections brought a distinctly conservative government to power, that gained 63% of the parliament seats.
Korea - After the successful conclusion of Operation "Cartwheel", both Allied and North Korean forces tried to improve the own situation. Despite heavy fighting north of Seoul, no nameable results were achieved.

Indochina - The Viet Minh, far from being beaten, started new assaults on the French positions north of Hanoi. But the French forces, especially the units of the Foreign Legion, could repel these attacks. On the other hand, they could not exploit this success. Hence the situation remains stable.
Colombia - During the last months, the MLPC started a massive operation to increase its influence in the country. Its offensive has to be seen as huge success, since the whole country south of Chafurray is now under control of the Rebel forces.
Tunisia - In early 1883, French forces, coming from Algeria, invaded and occupied Tunisia within three weeks, that became another French colony in northern Africa. Just two decades later, the first movements for the liberation of Tunisia began to appear, starting with the Jeunes Tunisiens in 1907. At the end of World War I, the Destur Party was founded, that split up in 1934 in a Islamist faction and a laicist one (Neo-Destur).
During World War II and the fighting between German and Allied forces, these movements supported the Allies, but expected to be rewarded with Independence after the war. First negotiations with Foreign Minister Robert Schuman failed in 1951. With the arrival of the resident-general Jean Marie Francois de Hauteclocque, the imprisonment of 150 members of the Destur Party and finally the murder of unionist Farhat Hached the situation escalated and an independence war has begun.
Egypt - With the beginning of World War I, British forces occupied Egypt and declared it to be a British protectorate. Already in early 1922 the British government issued the Declaration on Egypt, which granted independence to the country, although British forces remained in the country and the British government had several rights to intervene. Notwithstanding this, Sultan Fu`ad proclaimed himself King of Egypt.
King Faruq I
In 1936, his son Faruq became King and the British forces left the country except for the Canal Zone. During World War II the country was occupied again, not least because of the alleged pro-german stance of King Faruq. After the war, the King was linked to several corruption scandals and the rampant mismanagement.
According to rumors, several officers of the military plan a coup to change this.
