The Fleet of Frey-Bloodshore was spotted along the northern coast of Essos and the Free Cities from Braavos to Morosh were on high alert. Once coming upon Saath, it was clear they were preparing for the worst. Home to a small fleet, the Saathi ships were already in formation to protect the harbour. Lord Wex unloaded Frey's army to assault the walls and gates as his ships dispatched the smaller enemy fleet.
The larger dromonds that made up the Saath fleet were too large and cumbersome to ram any of the Bloodshore longboats, though their sturdy forecastles made boarding a challenge. The reavers relished the challenge, however, and outnumbered the larger ships over two to one. Wex sounded a terrible war horn and the fleets clashed.
Meanwhile, on land, Addem Frey had begun his assault, determining the coastal gate to be the more vulnerable. It was here he mustered all his strength and sent forth batter rams to split the gate. Archers along the wall, boiling oils and flung boulders soon broke the assault, however, and killed many Freys in the process. Frey retreated, and struck a camp in the nearby woods, constructing siege equipment and hoping Frey had better luck.
The Saath fleet was able resist the attack of the Ironborn thanks to the coming of Morosh warships, that came to reinforce their Saath allies. Though most of the Saath fleet was destroyed, the incoming Morosh turned the tide, and Bloodshore was forced to land on a nearby isle for repairs.
As Frey constructed greater siege equipment, Bloodshore busied himself with terrorizing the Sarne Delta, stealing ships and raiding up and down the river valley. The people of Saath could only look out helplessly as the countryside burned. Though they could do little to stop the reaver ships, as their fleet was decimated and the Morosh were timid, they could send out sorties of cavalry against the Freys. The exiled Frey anticipated such a move, however, and the forests around Saath were a great resource. Great spears were cut from the timber and the cavalry charges ended in disaster for the Saathi. Frey knights easily overcame the strays.
By mid-year, fearing any more of the Free Cities becoming involved, Frey and Bloodshore agreed to launch another massive assault. Siege towers were pushed against the walls of the city while yet another naval assault came at the harbour of the city. The Morosh fled after a brief fight, not willing to take the ultimate sacrifice for their neighbour.
The Freys still struggled, however. Arrows of fire and oil burned the siege towers and the men within as they came upon the wall. Addem led a charge and was able to hold a single bastion for nearly a day. It seemed like a toehold was established, when a counterattack succeeded in pushing Frey back down, taking a slash to his cheek for his effort.
The Ironborn were in the city, however, and the Saath ill prepared for their ferocious fight. Expecting rank and file soldiers was the undoing of the Saath Prince, and the Ironborn dispersed into the city like a petulance of rape and murder. Wex Bloodshore led a more organised effort toward the coast gate with his blood-reavers. Sending the company into route, Lord Wex was able to open the gate and the Freys gained access to the city.
The war for Saath proved a slow one, as weeks of bloodshed ensued. The Prince of Saath had fled his palace and hid somewhere within the city, coordinating efforts against his city's occupiers. Finally, after a long and bloody campaign, knights of the Frey Household cornered the Prince of Saath and he surrendered. Violence toned down and the city belonged to Lord Frey and his Bloodshore allies.
