The sun was standing in its zenith, right above Willas, shining its light on his face as he was relaxing in its warmth. The chair he was sitting in was comfortable to say the least, he had fallen completely down in it, no longer sitting straight but instead being almost asleep. The music could be heard in the background as he was relaxing, some of the most beautiful music that he had heard in a long time, the singer was younger than him, or so Willas thought, he had a beautiful voice. The song and music they performed was the same as his mother once had sung for him while he was younger, it gave him an inner peace and reminded him of fond memories of her.

It was roughly 10 years ago that they had been together as a family, sure an occasion popped up once in a while but not truly as a family. Willas was sitting in a garden reading his books, his father had given him several scrolls to read, to memorize the houses and formulate a response to the houses. Of course what Willas wrote would never be sent to them but it was a welcome lesson none the less, it thought him to formulate himself from an early age. Olenna was busy sitting with the Septa, learning how to sew, teaching her how to act as a proper Lady. She became so furious when Harlan ran over and knocked over the table, making all her work fall down, mother was mad at him for the next two days but eventually they made up. Garth was too busy to notice, he was too busy with his training, Willas never understood that he cared so much about his appearance. Willas had always told himself that the wielding of swords was not the only thing to ruling, but perhaps he simply told himself to reassure that he wasn’t worse than his brother, Willas never really having had the best competence when it came to fighting.

Willas slowly opened his eyes as he saw the gardens inside Highgarden, the trees with peaches and fireplums filled the garden. The golden flowers, the red roses, the smell of the garden was worth the pass time alone. Harlan was off to the side, practicing his archery while aiming at some of the peaches hanging off a tree by the wall. Looking at him then it was good that he was practicing, he sorely needed it when he was that much off his target. Willas made a slight chuckle at his brother’s efforts making Harlan turn around and nodding towards him “Think you can do better?” Willas only laughed at the remark while looking at him with a wide grin “No, of course not brother, no one can best you at archery”

Harlan turned around once again to take another shot as Tytos entered the gardens with his ledger in his arms, it was a rather large list, Willas could see it was folded from he sat. Willas smiled at him as he neared the two brothers “So Tytos, what can I do for you today?”

Tytos smiled “My Lord, I am here to bring up the topic of your future and your prospect” Great, it was going to be that conversation. Willas went over to the table and picked up a knife before walking over to a tree, he felt on the different fruits, measuring them, feeling if they were ripe, wanting to get the perfect peach to endure this coming conversation. As Willas kept searching then Tytos spoke up “It is important that you are married soon, to further the Tyrell line and secure yourself. Not to mention that the alliance could be most useful in the future.” Willas had finally found his peach and plucked it, he moved over towards the wall, cutting a piece off the peach and began eating it, the coldness of the knife hitting his lower lip. The juice was very sweet and the taste brought him back from his otherwise dozy state.

Willas looked out over the wall, feeling the breeze rushing in over Highgarden. “Wasn’t the marriage between my sister and Lord Lannister’s son meant to secure an alliance that would prove to be, well make sure that we didn’t need any other allies outside the Reach.” Willas had been overjoyed when his sister had gotten married, the feel of relief that he himself needed not to be married was one that he treasured, and it had seemed that it was true at least as long as Garth had been alive. But now Willas had to be married and he knew that he could do little to object, no matter how terrified he was of the prospect.

Tytos smiled “It did, but more friends can never hurt a man” he was right and Willas hated him for it, Willas never quite knew why it was that he dreaded it so much. It might simply be because he was utterly incompetent when speaking with a girl that he would like something with, perhaps it was simply because of his brothers teasing whenever he messed up in front of them, like the feast three years back. It all annoyed him greatly, he could speak perfectly to Lords, their wives, their daughters as long as the Lords where there. As long as there wasn’t anything special about then it was fine, but the moment he was alone with their daughter he became so shy, so afraid to speak in case he would mess it up that it was just, it was just so bad. Both of his brothers had carried themselves with much more ease, so much that it at times made him mad as he watched them move around the younger ladies at the Tyrell feasts. At this point anything would be an improvement, a mistress, a lover, a rumour, anything could be useful just to prove that he didn’t fancy his own sex, which could turn out to be quite the scandal.

Willas sighed as he ate another piece of the peach “Fine, give me the candidates” Might as well get on with it.
“Well there is of course the sisters of Lord Greyjoy who..” Willas stopped him “I am not going to marry an Ironborn, there is no way to make that happen if the gods appeared before me” It was simply not going to happen, no matter what argument was put before, no matter by whom, it was not an option.

“Then there is the Lady Redwyne and Lady Oakheart, both of them could be honorable wives to you” Willas thought about it for a moment.
“They are part of the better families within the Reach, indeed, both could be worthwhile brides and it would also strengthen our ties. But who else is there?” Willas asked in hopes that they could move on from the subjects with speedily haste.
“There is also Lady Lysa Hightower, only 14 namedays but if you don’t mind waiting a bit, it could be a worthwhile match. There is also Lady Melessa Tarly, the youngest child of Lord Randyll Tarly” A match with either could prove to be vital should complications arise. “Outside of the Reach there are also a number of candidates, Lannister is of course not one due to the current marriage already established” Harlan walked over next to them with a grin on his face “A shame, I always wondered if their carpets matched the drapes”

Tytos sighed before moving on “Then there is Lady Aemma Arryn, the sister to Lord Arryn. A match with the Vale could prove beneficial to us, the Lord Arryn is currently tied up in the Vale dealing with a local revolt of some sort, something with some mountain tribes, he also has strong ties with Riverrun. The Lady herself is spoken of as a great beauty, but also very pious.”
Well Lord Arryn does seem well connected, Willas thought to himself before Harlan placed a hand on his shoulder and shook him a bit “Well brother, that might just be the woman for you, a very pious one who you can’t possible bore, you never know, she might even be like Baelor and consider everything sinful and if that is the case then at least you won’t lose touch with your beloved hand” Harlan laughed “You know, Willas, for being the most eligible bachelor in the Seven Kingdoms, you are having an awful lot of trouble with this. You could ask about any Lord and he would be willing to give his daughter to you, to secure an alliance with house Tyrell and the might of the Reach”
Willas turned to him, his brother started to get on his nerves “Go back to your practice, and if I wanted just anyone, I would accept the offer from one of your whores.” making Harlan laugh as he left them again.

Tytos looked at Harlan with annoyance before he continued down the list “Then there are the Tullys’ of Riverrun, Lord Tully has three daughters. One is married to Lord Arryn but the two younger ones should be available, Lady Elinor and Kaithryn.”
Willas raised his hand to stop him “I read Garths letter regarding Lord Tully and the reputation of Lady Elinor. Garth wrote that Lord Tully is ill tempered, ill toned and of poor patience, saying that for such a man it is not surprise if for the rumours about Lady Elinor to be true, that she dresses improperly and hold what could be considered orgies, he also wrote that it would be no surprise should the younger daughter be the same” Willas didn’t care much for them, the report that Garth had written was enough. While the wife of Lord Arryn by all accounts seems like a proper wife, the accounts of her younger sister was less than spotless, such a thing could be a black spot on any marriage to the family, and any marriage to her in person, something that Willas had no desire in.
Tytos frowned “I have different reports of the youngest sister, she is more like her mother and older sister, Liana, than her older brother and middle sister” Willas thought about it, while it would certainly be an improvement for the Tullys’, the reputation of Elinor and the reports of Harrion being similar was not a good sign for any member coming from such a family.

Tytos continued “Then there is Lady Lyanna Stark, the youngest daughter of Lord Brandon Stark. She is said to be a remarkable woman” As Tytos spoke a servant came up to the two of them, much to the relief of Willas, hopefully being able to make Tytos quiet about the damned marriages. The servant passed a letter to Tytos as Willas took the last piece of the peach. Tytos looked at it for a moment before speaking up “It’s a letter from Kings Landing, from King Aegon IV” Tytos looked at for a brief moment more before breaking the seal and reading the context “You have been appointed Master of Coin, my Lord”

Willas looked over at him before taking the letter out of his hand, reading the letters carefully. Lannister, Tyrell, Darklyn, Frey, Greyjoy. Willas read them over and over and couldn’t make sense of what the King was doing, surely he couldn’t be serious, and he removed both Baratheon and Tully. If Garth had been true in his report then Tully would already be in a fury, and no doubt that Baratheon would be much similar, they are great warriors and care deeply about their honour, no doubt that being passed over by the Greyjoys could only cause issue. That was the biggest concern, the Greyjoys, the King had appointed them Master of Ships, giving the Lord Greyjoy power over the royal fleet could not happen, this could not be allowed. They have raided Lys and burned it to the ground, to give such a fleet to the Greyjoys could not only spell political disaster between the Great houses here in the Kingdoms, but also with any standing which we had left in Essos. If they gained power of the Royal Fleet then no doubt they could start raiding Westeros as well, something which cannot be allowed, the King cannot be allowed to go through with this.

Willas stood there wondering about his own position as Master of Coin, it was a position that he was not very pleased with to say the least. He had no real desire to go to the capital to solve the financial issues of the King, it was not his desire or trade to sit as a common bookkeeper. Lord Lannister had been Master of Coin during the previous King and they had done a remarkable job, but the Lannisters always had a skill of pulling gold of dirt, so it was no great surprise. Sure we have wealth, we have armies and we have natural resources, something which the Lannisters lacks if we look away from the gold mines, but still, how as he meant to turn finances around, sure the Reach could gain wealth from such a position, but that would also be stealing from the King. It annoyed Willas that the King would summon him to be a common bookkeeper, instead of Lord Paramount of the Reach, but he would go to Kings Landing, if for nothing else than keeping the peace between the King and his vassals, to make sure that the Reach wasn’t open to Ironborn raids.

Willas sighed “Tytos, send word to the King that I am om my way to the Capital, if nothing else then I will try to make sure that peace is kept between Storms End, Riverrun and the Iron Throne.” Willas shook his head “Appoint Greyjoy is foolish. Announce that my brother Harlan will oversee the Reach while I am gone.”

((Willas is presented with possible candidates for marriage, he also receives the message that he is Master of Coin, as well as his remarks on the new council, Harlan Tyrell is regent of the Reach while Willas is away))

Along the Goldroad

Who knew that travel could be so boring, thought Ser Leyton as he and his trusty rounsey horse Rushford clopped along the road, everything silent save the beating of a hoof on ground. This day's events amounted to trees, bushes, clouds, and little else. Sure, nature possesses a distinct beauty, but after a while, they began to look the same. At least two days back Ser Leyton had some semblance of company, for a short while, in the form of fellow traveler - a farmhand returning from visiting a distant aunt. One would expect greater traffic on such an important route, Leyton having entered on the Goldroad from Rayonet on his way towards King's Landing.

Absorbed in his curiosity of seeing no one, Ser Leyton almost didn't notice the three people ahead of him. Snapping to his attention, Leyton noticed something was wrong: the trio stood beside a stationary horse-drawn cart, with cowering before the two. Twas bandits! Word was that a campaign was waged against Crownlander banditry, but it was clear that some isolated incidents remained. This day was taking a happy turn.Dismounting from Rushford, Leyton smirked. The two thieving scum had by now noticed his arrival and looked none too pleased.

"Oi, you best be leavin' hedge boy, this bounty is ours!" said the first, a brutish and balding man with the face of the ugliest piglet in a litter, which was followed with a defiant spit towards Leyton. After admiring his own apparent class, Pig-Face brandished his weapon, a pitiful knife that had obviously been of poor craftsmanship. His clothing was the standard for the low class, ragged and giving off an odd stench, with a jerkin covering his upper chest, his large gut flowing beneath its extent.

His accomplice remained quiet, but gave a fierce stare from beneath a wide-brimmed hat, too clean and put-together to belong to him, clearly stolen recently. His red, bushy whiskers quivered like rat, though whether it was from fear or excitement was not known. Only cloth protected him from the horrors Leyton would inflict upon him, however the shoddy hunting spear he wielded could prove an annoyance.

They hardly compared to Ser Leyton. Wearing a polished suit of plated armor, with a grey, cloth tabard bearing no coat of arms, for Ser Leyton bore none. Affixing his helm and lowering the visor, allowing only his eyes to show, Leyton readied himself by grabbing his trusty weapon, his signature weapon used during the tourney melees - his flanged mace. Perhaps his most prized possession, it cost him much blood and sweat to gain it. Leyton was prepared to dispense justice.

"Hold your tongue you swine! You disgrace yourselves in the eyes of the Law and the Gods, now surrender lest I be forced to deliver Justice here and now."

As expected, Pig-Face scoffed at the very notion, the Rat still silent. With an arrogant swagger, Pig-Face began his approach, swinging his blade back and forth, until he was but a mere few steps from Leyton. The resulting silence was broken by Leyton; stepping forward quickly, Pig-Face's attempted to slice but was interrupted by the faster swing of Leyton's mace, delivering a downward blow upon Pig-Face's striking arm, providing a satisfying crunch. Howling with pain and dropping his weapon, Pig-Face dropped all pretense of well being as he held his limp arm.

Leyton proceeded to grab Pig-Face with his free arm and shoved him backwards towards the Rat, the flailing mass of Pig-Face doing well to crash at the Rat's feet and give him a slight stumble. Capitalizing on this momentary confusion, Leyton moved in, dispatching the Rat swiftly with a strike to the side of the head. The Rat's hat was no longer quite as clean anymore. Turning over the still whimpering Pig-Face, who now begged for mercy, Leyton proceeded to make him No-Face after a few choice strikes. Justice was served.

Understandably traumatized, the third man - now upon further inspection obviously a merchant of the clothing variety, and judging from his own attire, a connoisseur of luxury garments - slowly picked himself off the ground, no real injuries gained save minor bruises. By the time the merchant regained some sense of composure, Leyton had cleaned his mace of the scoundrels' remains.

"I am in your debt good Ser, whatever you wish, I must accede!", spoke the merchant.

"Tell me merchant, where does your business take you?" replied Leyton.

Confused for a moment at the question, the merchant responded "King's Landing, good Ser. Why do you ask?"

"Good, I was in need of a traveling companion. These roads can be dreadfully boring." With this, Leyton began to mount his horse and proceeded to wait upon the merchant, who was a tad frazzled by Leyton's demeanor. Still, he obliged.

And thus continued Ser Leyton's journey to King's Landing.

Royal Pronouncement of King Aegon IV of the House Targaryen

My Lords

I wish to extend my deepest sorrows to Lord's Tyrell and Greyjoy for there losses. Also with the passing of Lord Tyrell I feel the need to now announce a new council. I saw that many members of my father's council only seemed to want to use there positions to benefit themselves and not the Kingdom. While others did there jobs dutifully and will be rewarded. Therefore I would like to announce the new Small Council

Hand of the King- Willem Lannister
Master of Coin- Willas Tyrell
Master of Laws- Beric Darklyn
Master of Whispers- Addam Frey
Master of Ships- Euron Greyjoy
Advisers to the Council- Utherydes Tully,Edric Baratheon

Now as the matter of House Tarly killing off House Hunt, I will leave the decision to Tarly's liege, Lord Tyrell. Master Vymen I will take your adivce and offer the sellsword the choice of trial as all men in the Kingdom are allowed.

~King Aegon IV

I must thank His Grace for his trust in my abilities. I would be honored to serve his as the Master of Laws, keeping in mind only the interests of His Grace and the realm. It would be my aim in this office to guarantee that the laws of the King prevail in all Westeros - and none of his subjects, be them great lords or simple peasants, would dare to violate them, understanding that, while justice should not be cruel, it should be unavoidable. I would see among my tasks also the codification of the existing legal framework and harmonious division of responsibilities between the royal justiciars that would allow them to execute their duties in a harmonious manner. I also believe that certain revision of our current trade laws that may not benefit the realm could be needed, for which reason I would set up a comission of experienced scholars and merchants to evaluate them.

I would also ask the Commander of the City Watch to report to me as soon as possible on the current state of the guardsmen and the overall situation in the Kings Landing.

Regarding the trial by combat, which Sellsword Beckett Snow asks for, I advise the King against such a measure. It is my firm belief that only men of honor and blue blood, say, lords, annointed knights or sons of noble houses, should be granted such a right. If common soldier, who is a bastard by his birth, would be given such an opportunity, it would be a bad precedent. A champion of His Grace should not risk his life in this occasion. By the Seven, next time common poachers or rapists would demand a trial by combat, instead of asking for the rope they deserve!

- Beric Darklyn, the Lord of Duskendale

Duncan Baratheon was quite visibly upset, as Maester Jules relayed the news brought from the ravens of King's Landing.

"He is raving mad!" the Baratheon lord exclaimed furiously. "A filthy Ironborn? A stinking foul Ironborn scum?!?"

"My lord, please calm do..." Jules began, only for Lyonel Baratheon to put his hand on the arm the arm of the Maester.

"No, Jules. In this matter, my father is correct." Lyonel said, looking over at his father, who was yelling out all the curses he knew, in several languages.

"An ironborn heathen filth should not have a position in the king's court. My father is not upset that Edric is no longer on the Small Council, he's upset that he did not appoint another who followed the Faith of the Seven, but instead picked one who embraces a false god."

-----

A bit later several ravens are sent to King's Landing. One is for the king.

"A member of house Baratheon cannot serve the King in or near his council, as long as an Ironborn heathen is part of it."

The same day Edric Baratheon returns to the Stormlands.

Grand Maester Vymen

"Your Grace, I fear that replacing Edric Baratheon as Master of Ships may have alienated our allies in Storm's End... And the implications of a follower of the Old Gods on this council may not bode well with the Faith. This appointment will undoubtedly antagonize the lords of Myr, Lys and Tyrosh. I will also say, reverting the appointment now will infuriate the Iron Born. Your father made significant concessions to appease Lord Tully, and I believe avoided a rebellion. Tully and Baratheons scorned, I fear unrest may follow."

They had ridden for many days and this morning the city had finally been within sight, Kings Landing as it was named was the largest city in all the seven Kingdoms. It had been a glorious sight from afar, more and more merchants where travelling towards to city, most notably from the Reach to sell goods. A Dornish wine merchant was in front of us, they had been forced to reduce the pace of their travels the closer they got as more and more people wished to enter the capital, hoping to earn money.

Willas say on his horse, they had all but come to a halt now, some commotion up ahead which had slowed down all the people wanting to pass. In front and behind Willas was his retinue, knights in his service from Highgarden carrying the Tyrell banner. Willas was growing more and more impatient as the strench of Kings Landing grew worse and worse with each passing moment, he already missed the better smells which could be found in Highgarden. When the cart was finally moved off the path the line of people finally began to move again, within long they had arrived in Kings Landing. Standing outside the gate looking at the walls before moving in and taking in the sight of the city, off to the side there stood two gold cloaks talking with what could only be assumed to be a whore, the city was disgusting.

As they rode towards the Red Keep they met more and more of the inhabitants of the city, so many poor, and so many whores. Many of them approached Willas as they passed, offering their sevices and telling him sweet lies of nothing in the process. Not that he minded very much or cared for that matter, each one of them filthier than the last. It was quite a sight, there was no doubting that.

After dismounting their horses they went inside the castle, Willas eager to sit down in a chair for a moment. He was shown to his quarters, he stood there for a moment and looked around, outside of the door stood two Tyrell knights to guard him. The quarters themselves where good enough, the bed was of a decent enough size and the room itself had plenty of room. There was a balcony and view out over the city and the sea, which was probably the most appealing about the room itself. On the table there was a silver goblet and glass jug with red wine inside, Willas poured himself a cup of wine as he sat over to a table where the books he had requested had been placed. Inside these books where the darkest secrets of the Crown, the royal finances.

Knowing that he was needed in the small council, Willas decided to only read the last few pages of the finances and decided to go join the council. As he entered he heard the Maester talk about unrest, as he had feared he would before sitting down in his chair and looking at the other lords while the Maester finished.

The King’s small council
Willas did a light chough, clearing his throat as he looked around the council. “The Maester is correct, these appointments could spell disaster for the stability of the Kingdoms. Furthermore appointing them to Master of Ships is dangerous for the safety of us all, they already possess the largest fleet, and given the Royal Fleet there is no way we could stop them if they tried to do any rash actions. As such I must raise my concern as Lord Paramount of the Reach that our naval defenses are put at risk by this decision to appoint Lord Greyjoy as Master of Ships. I have no doubt in Lord Greyjoy’s ability and competence but perhaps another position would suit him better.”

Willas leaned back a bit “But on another topic for Your Majesty, as well as your Hand then there is the issue of your coronation, an event which only takes place ones and as such is a grand event in itself. There is no doubt that it will be an expensive affair and as such I would like to propose that your Majesty either grant me 5000 gold Dragons, it will be able to cover the bare expenses and be able to provide what is needed. I would however recormend that your Majesty agrees to spend up to 12,000 gold Dragons on this event, it will all pomp as well as the power of your majesty to truly be shown, furthermore it would also allow a tournament to be held in your honour.”

Willas sat a bit more straight up “I hope that your Majesty and this council does not see this as just a waste of wealth, but more of the political statement which it can present and ensure. If we show the wealth and power of his Majesty then it may avoid the civil unrest which otherwise seem to plague us, it would also be an excuse to invite all the powerful Lords of the realm here to the capital, Tully, Arryn, Stark, Baratheon as well as the Martells from Dorne, we could use this chance to further strengthen all ties and help integrate the Martells further into the politics of the Crown. As the Martells are bound to the crown by marriage, no one can question why they would be invited to your Majestys coronation and as such they cannot raise complaints.”

A messenger arrived to the Red Keep, he quivered and bowed before them, relaying the message.

"Lord Utherydes of House Tully has refused your grace's kind, but for naught offer... He r-r-reports that he has more important business to attend to, then be in a fool's council with an Kraken around his neck.."

The King’s small council

The Master of Laws stands up, his usually pale face flushing. Adjusting his mantle of wolf fur, that he wears over his white doublet, he crosses his hands on the chest.

- Lord Tully not only defies the will of the King, but even fails to show him proper respect. By Seven, the disorders of the previous reign has put evil seeds into the ground. The royal authority should be supreme and sacred - and all lords of the realm, whether they are petty landowners or mighty masters, must know that!

The fact that Lord of Tully has dared to call the King a fool cannot be forgiven. A certain penalty must take place - in other case the Crown would be seen as weak and not able to protect its dignity. As the Master of Laws of this realm, I believe that I may be forced to demand from Utherdys Tully, the Lord of Riverran, to come to the Red Keep and stand before the King, explaining his words and answering for the insult to the Crown and the gods-given authority.

- Beric Darklyn, the Lord of Duskendale

The King’s small council

Willas shook his head “I admire the zealousness that you pledge in your office, but I fear you might be acting too rash, Lord Darklyn. Insulting the King or not then Lord Tully’s words do have sense in them as well, his sentiment is one that is shared by many peers in the realm. While it is true that Lord Tully did indeed insult his Majesty, it is an insult that is only known to Lord Tully himself and us in this council, and as such not known by the common people. Perhaps it would be wise to simply trade words with Lord Tully in a less hostile environment, Riverrun for example to make sure that things are kept under control, instead of jumping into the River and pray that the fish follow our commands, and that a bigger fish doesn’t come along and bites your hand.”

The King’s small council

Beric Darklyn looks grimly at the other advisor “My lord, and if Lord Utherdys would have pissed on the head of the King, without the smallfolk knowing - would you still ask us to hold gentle negotiations in Riverran? And are you so sure that Lord Tully has not shared his witty words with his bannermen and relatives? And should not the sacred nature of the regal authority be protected, because the insults to it are disgusting to the Gods, not because of the opinions of the common people?

When a vassal learns that he can slander his sovereign without reprecussions, he starts get ideas that are above his station. The weakeness of the authority leads to disobedience, disobedience leads to rebellious thoughts, rebellious thoughts lead to revolts. Lord Utherdys Tully should learn that, whatever decision the King makes, it it his sacred right to pick his own advisors. He should learn that the King is not a puppet to the great lords, but their ruler. He must understand that insulting the dignity of the King is a grave crime, which cannot be forgiven easily.”

The King’s small council

Willas looked at him for a moment “If Lord Tully pissed on the head of the King then it is clear that the King is no King at all.” Willas sat back in his chair “I know not if Lord Tully has shared his view or not, and neither does you, my Lord, but the King does need his banner-men and vassals to be loyal to him, as such this chasing of Tully could end in disaster.”

Willas looked at Lord Darklyn, a man almost 10 years his senior. “Talks should be held with Lord Tully, if you act rash then you risk acting in ways that would be most damaging to the Crown and its authority. The King has picked us with being his advisers and as such I will advise him to what I consider the best course of action. Lord Tully’s son in law is Lord Ronnel Arryn of the Vale, it is unlikely that Lord Arryn will see likely to whatever you have in mind for his father in law, they are close from what I hear. Furthermore then Lord Baratheon has also been disgraced by the King as of late, having an Ironborn been picked over him. Allow me to quote his Majesty:

“I saw that many members of my father's council only seemed to want to use there positions to benefit themselves and not the Kingdom. While others did there jobs dutifully and will be rewarded.”

His Majesty also stated that Lord Tully and Baratheon did their jobs to benefit themselves, it has been a great dishonor on them as well. That is three realms, Lord Darklyn, that could rise up should you act rashly, furthermore I have seen the royal finances, we are in large debt to the Iron Bank, luckily the budget has been balanced but it will take decades before the debt is paid off. One of the reason that the budget is balanced is due to the faith being taxed, which they surely are not content about. This could turn very ugly very fast my Lord, be careful where you step.

History of House Velaryon

Before the Conquest

House Velaryon is an ancient and proud house, with the blood of old Valyria in its veins. House Velaryon was a closely allied family to House Targaryen in Valyria. Velaryons, like the Targaryens, very often have the Valyrian features of silver hair and purple eyes. The Velaryons traveled to Westeros before the Targaryens, having settled in the island of Driftmark and they claimed that they received the Driftwood Throne from the Merling King to conclude a pact. The Velaryons filled their coffers by gaining monopoly over the passing trade and Velaryon ships dominated the middle reaches of the Narrow Sea while their allies, the Targaryens ruled the skies with their dragons.
The House continued to maintain close ties with the Targaryens after the Doom of Valyria, as evidenced by the marriage of Aerion Targaryen and Valaena Velaryon, the parents of Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys. When Aegon and his sisters began their Wars of Conquest, Driftmark men followed, and a member of the house, Daemon Velaryon, became Aegon's master of ships.

After the Conquest untill the Dance of Dragons

Since the Conquest, Velaryons have intermarried with the Targaryens several times. Three Targaryens had a wife from House Velaryon and three Targaryens married into the house: Aenys Targaryen, who most likely married Alyssa Velaryon before his coronation, Daemon Targaryen, who married Laena Velaryon, Aegon III who married Daenaera Velaryon, Corlys Velaryon who married Rhaenys Targaryen, his son Laenor Velaryon who married Rhaenyra Targaryen and his rumored bastard and legitimated heir Alyn Velaryon who married Baela Targaryen. The Velaryons often served as Master of Ships and provided much of the Iron Throne's royal navy.
Among the most famous scions of the house was Lord Corlys Velaryon, known as the Sea Snake. Named after the first Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, his fame did not come from his skill with the sword but rather from his many voyages across the seas of the world. Lord Corlys traveled far and wide, sailing as far as Qarth to trade for spices and silk. But the Sea Snake dared to go farther, reaching the fabled lands of Yi TI and Leng, whose wealth doubled that of House Velaryon in a single voyage. The Sea Snake made nine great voyages and on his last travel, Lord Corlys filled his ship's hold with gold and bought twenty more ships at Qarth, loading them with spices, elephants and the finest silk. The wealth the Sea Snake accumulated through his many voyages made House Velaryon the richest in the realm - and for a time, even richer than the Lannisters and Hightowers themselves, and himself the wealthiest man in the Seven Kingdoms. Because their ancestral castle, Driftmark, was damp and crowded, Corlys constructed a new seat for the Velaryons, High Tide.

During the Dance of Dragons

During the Dance of the Dragons, the Velaryons were major supporters of the blacks against the greens, as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen's first husband had been Laenor Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen, the Queen Who Never Was, was wed to Lord Corlys Velaryon. Dragonriders from the house during the civil war included Laenor's sons Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey Velaryon, although accusations persisted that Harwin Strong was actually the father. Even without these champions (all of whom died in the civil war), the House's wealth and fleets at the time made them a significant power of Westeros, with only the Greyjoys able to match them at sea. Lord Corlys used these fleets to blockade Blackwater Bay. However, Spicetown and High Tide were sacked after the blockade was broken in the Battle in the Gullet, with the Velaryons losing nearly a third of their ships. It is unknown if the Velaryons remained at High Tide or returned to the castle of Driftmark.
The death of Lord Corlys's wife Princess Rhaenys angered the Sea Snake against Rhaenyra, who had refused to send her sons at Rhaenys's side. Rhaenyra brought Corlys back into the fold by making him her Hand. To gain more dragonriders, the blacks recruited several dragonseed smallfolk, among them Addam of Hull and his brother Alyn. According to their mother Marilda of Hull, the two boys were fathered by the late Ser Laenor Velaryon, Rhaenyra's first husband but it has been hinted by some that Addam and Alyn were actually fathered by Lord Corlys himself back when he spent many of his days at the shipyards of Hull where Marilda's father was a shipwright but was kept far from court and far away from the fiery-tempered Princess Rhaenys.
Addam was able to bond to the dragon Seasmoke, though Alyn failed in his own attempt. Lord Corlys adopted both boys into the House, petitioning Rhaenyra to remove the taint of bastardy from them, making them his heirs. Later, as Rhaenyra grew paranoid, she suspected the boys of treachery - Corlys spoke in their defense and warned Addam in time for him to flee King's Landing. Addam went on to fight at the Second Battle of Tumbleton, defeating Rhaenyra's foes at the cost of his own life. Meanwhile Lord Corlys was thrown in the dungeon, costing Rhaenyra the Velaryon fleet. He was eventually pardoned by King Aegon II Targaryen. During the Hour of the Wolf after the war, Alysanne Blackwood agreed to marry Lord Cregan Stark in exchange for allowing the pardoning of Corlys to stand. Lord Corlys Velaryon the Sea Snake died in 132 AC at the age seventy-nine. His body was lay in state beneath the Iron Throne for seven days and the realm wept.

Recent History

Recently, The senior branch of house Velaryon died out, the titles and wealth of the house went to Lord Daegar Velaryon and his children, who are the direct male pureblooded valyrian decendants from the Valyrian Velaryons who have not married anyone out of valyrian circles, thus keeping the line pure.Inbreeding is still common among these Velaryons, many of Daegars ancestors have taken their sisters or cousins as wife.

The King’s small council

Beric Darklyn walks towards the window. His face is now hid in the shadows, only a muscled neck is seen now. For a few moments he keeps silence, before returning to the table

"You may be right to an extent, my lord, that the positions of the Crown are currently not among the strongest. However - what do you propose? Do you believe that the King should pretend he had not heard the insult uttered by Lord Tully or that he should even make amends to him, for not giving him a position he wanted? May I remind you that the Kings of the past have chosen mere knights and septons as their advisors, and the great lords of this realm humbly accepted their decisions? Regarding the performance of his previous advisors, His Grace has rendered his judgment, and, whatever one may think of it, it already took place and cannot be withdrawn. After all, it is up to His Grace to evaluate such matters.

I find your prognosis too pessimistic - for do not other great and small houses of the realm support the Iron Throne and ready to implement his justice when neccessary, does His Grace posses less influence in the realm than Arryns, Baratheons or Tullies? And if it so - is His Grace currently indeed a King... still?

However, what is your proposal regarding Lord of Riverrun? He must learn that he should not treat his sovereign in this way"

House_Hightower.png

Theodore entered the room where Gladys was lying down. It had been a long night. Gladys had begun to go into labor shortly after they had finished dinner and now the moon was high in the night sky. But in the end, everything had gone well. As he entered, he saw Gladys sitting on the bed holding their child in her arms. Maester Pelleas was standing by the side of the bed. He looked at Theodore and smiled, "She's a girl, my liege." Theodore grinned. While a son would have been preferable, they were young and they would certainly have more children. He came closer to take a look at his daughter. Gladys looked up and smiled and said, "She has your nose."

She did, a bit. "Yes, and she has your eyes."

"Well, I hope she doesn't have your height," Gladys joked and giggled.

"Why not? I'm sure every guy in Westeros would want a seven foot tall wife." They went on like this for some time. Joking about their child's future, until Pelleas finally interrupted them. "Excuse my interruption, but have my lord and lady come up with a name for the child?"

"Yes, why we have actually. Her name is Alicent Hightower." The young couple smiled and they enjoyed the rest of their night.

* * *

It has been a week since Alicent was born and Theodore was finally getting caught up with the happenings of the realm. Theodore sat in a chair facing the window in his solar with a cup of mulled wine on the table beside him as he read the letters they had received. It was much the same way his father would do things. He had quickly seen why his father chose to read his letters like this. The wine and view made the boring reports on finances and the like less boring and they took the edge of off the worrying news. Speaking of worrying news, Theodore was looking at the new small council. Why the Greyjoys? Something is not right here and I fear what the Greyjoys will do. He called to Eustace, who was sitting at the table of the solar with Pelleas. He kept the two as his closer advisers now. "Eustace, I want you to order the construction of 50 new ships. I am disturbed by the news coming from the Iron Isles of late and now this appointment has put me over the edge. We shall double the size of our navy for the defense of our realm and the Reach."

Eustace scratched his beard. "Hmm. It's an expensive endeavor, but with the rains returning, it's one we can afford. I will send the orders to the shipwrights." That's settled then, on to the next piece of news. A letter from Willas. It's a response to my letter. It is well written. He is a very intelligent boy for his age. He smiled. The next few letters were reports on fortifications and finances. The next important piece of news he got to was another letter from Willas. "Lord Harlan will be regent. I don't like this. A 16 year old boy ruling the Reach?"

Pelleas spoke up, "He has reached the age of majority, Theodore. He is a man fully grown. Why wouldn't he rule in his brother's stead?" He spoke the truth, but Theodore was still uneasy. Pelleas continued, "Besides, your father was 16 when he took control of Hightower. We did not collapse under his rule. Harlan will rule capably, I'm sure. He most likely has a number of advisers helping him." Theodore grunted. He was still unconvinced. By the time he worked his way through the rest of the letters, the sun was already low in the sky. He had one last piece of business to attend to. He sat down and drafted the following letter to be sent to Nightsong:

Lady Lilianne Caron,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am pleased to announce you now have a beautiful niece to spoil. Her name is Alicent Hightower, a queen's name and I'm sure she'll live up to it. She has already brought great joy to Hightower and I hope you can soon come to visit so you can see her.

I also write to ask you of something. Would you take in my youngest brother, Luthor, and raise him at your court as a squire to one of your noble knights, perhaps your brother Richard if he will have him. A noble boy of Luthor's age should be squiring for a knight until he reaches the age of majority. My father had kept Luthor hidden away in Hightower up until now, but I believe that should change quickly. There are no noble boys of Luthor's age here and he should be sent somewhere else to be raised where he may enjoy the company of his peers. I also confess that his lack of peers has become a poor influence on my sister, Lysa. My septa has confided that she has taken to practicing fighting with her brother and I wish to nip this in the bud.

Gladys has been handling being a mother quite well. Although, she has been quite exhausted over the past week. She insists on spending all of her time with Alicent. Gladys wishes to let you know that she is well and she wants you to let everyone know that she loves them and that she is happy. She hopes that all of you can come and meet Alicent.

Your brother-in-law,
Theodore Hightower

In the Small Council...

The current events are most disturbing, it would seen. Apparently, the lords are growing bolder each day and even dare to mock the king. I strongly recommend His Grace to take a unflinching posture against this kind of dissent. I fear that should we fail to cut this trend by root, the position of the crown will be further weakened as time passes. The behavior of these lords is not just a threat against the crown, but they endanger the entire society of Westeros. They encourage vassals to stand against their liege lord and they set dangerous precedent. However, the position of the crown is already fragile and we are not risking the displeasure of one single great lord, but probably three. The loyalty of the ironborn is even more dubious than that of the dissident lords, giving the office of admiralty to them greatly endangers our western coast. In face of these circunstances, I believe that His Grace must remain stoic, but postphone any disciplinary measure until the position of the crown is further strenghtened.

On the subject of the coronation, I agree with Lord Tyrell. House Targaryen should not be shy to display it's greatness to Westeros. In fact, a great feast in King's Landing with the dragon banner covering the walls and halls the capital may just remind the lords of their duties and of their standings. With the budget currently stabilized, the cost presented by Lord Tyrell is completely affordable and in my opinion, a most excellent investment for the future of the Kingdom.

There's also a matter that I want to discuss. That is our current standing in Essos. As my lords already know, the actions of the ironborn caused a certain hostility between Westeros and the Free Cities. While many may believe this to be trivial, I recommend that His Grace take the necessary steps to normalize relations. The ill will of Lysene may severely affect our trade with the other domains of Essos and, honestly, our treasury is not currently capable to sponsor pride in detriment of economic pragmatism. Maybe Lord Darklyn could try to reconcile the kingdom with the Free Cities.

The King’s small council

Willas waited until Lord Lannister had finished speaking and spoke up afterwards “Kings in the past has indeed chosen lesser Lords, that is not an issue, not a single soul is complaining about the lesser Lords. The issue is that His Majesty has appointed the Greyjoys, they have raided shores to a great extent as of late, as such giving them command of the Royal Fleet is a diplomatic folly, both the signal we send to Essos as well as the realm, I will happily say that I oppose the decision as it brings the Reach, my home, within great danger of coming under an attack. You my Lord, trusts his Majesty’s judgment and wisdom in this regard, and I no doubt in the Kings ability. But you cannot simply wash away decades and centuries of fear and hatred, people are afraid for their life which is something that you must realize. As Lord Lannister has just presented, it is a very real concern for every Lord in the West.

If anything is to be done to Lord Tully, then allow me to travel to Riverrun and discuss with him the matters of which his letter entails. It would be seen as a less hostile response from the Crown, and as such will not cause as great an issue as otherwise might happen.”

Willas turned towards Lord Lannister "If you, as Hand of the King, agree to the proposed budget of the Royal Coronation as such I will prepare the needs for it" Willas looked at the Maester "I would suggest sending Ravens to the Lords of the realm, and I believe the task falls to you, Maester" He said with a kind smile.
