As he heard the High Mage talking the new crowned Jarl's vision darkened, his wound under his arm hurt. The cut was indeed deep. He put much of his strength to not show weakness in the assembly. He started to hear the whispers from Dödr again. He could see the dark figure standing behind the High Mage. He heard the whispers telling him to go. "am I going mad?" he thought to himself. He stood up ignoring the pain of doing so.

- "I with my thanes will join this quest."

The answer was like if it had come from nowhere, ignoring both his father-in-law and his old ally in battle's discussions about the ongoing problems. He was going crazy...

(( Can I have several Arl's under me? I would like to start painting up my realm and assign different parts of it to different Arl's. Some IC's on my arls might also come up. Thinking that they don't really provide anything game-wise, just want like 4 Arl's in total(counting myself holding the Arl title + my Jarl title) that are distributed over The Pale ))

The Pale will be sending the Arl of The Frost Isles to the peace meetings.

The Foundation of The Reach

Ivar af Blót were walking along the docks. Had just reached what will become his capital holding, The Reach. Ivar wasn't strong built, he would be considered skinny for the Nords. His hair was blond but cut short and he was walking with a heavy dire wolf pelt cloak to keep him warm. Even for a pale one the Isles were as cold as the whisper of death. With his armed guards by his sides, the icy wind cutting in his cheeks he met what would be his new Steward.

- "Where is Arl Ivar? I was expecting the lord of this castle!" the man in gray robes were furious. "The Jarl promised we were receiving the Arl!"
- "SHUT YOUR TOUNG!" One of the Thanes yelled at him "Your standing before your liege."
- "Him? But he's but a boy!" It was true, Ivar had only seen about 20 winters "He can never lead a whole populace of housecarls!"

The men around him was very willing to cut out the tongue of the Steward and show it to him but the young Arl went forward and starred into the Stewards eye with a dead face expression.

- "I have killed more... things... than all of the men on this island combined." His eyes told of the horrors he had seen, he inspected the steward with distaste and does a gesture towards him. "I plunge myself into the hands of death and this is my reward."

The young Arl pushed the Steward aside and headed towards the unfinished castle. He knew this place would give him many trials, most from his fellow men. The housecarls value strength above all, but the form of it did not matter. His undying determination was his, the brethren in his battles had seen it and dared not to stand in his way. His eyes were fixed, his goal was set, he will succeed.

- "I will serve The Pale" he whispered for himself.

Shortly behind him came his guards and his Thanes. They headed to the provisional tents that served as their housing while founding this new great fortress of the north. While everybody was getting ready to sleep he was out by the cliffs looking out into the icy sea.

- "When The Pale Falls... You shall make sure we never do." He reminisced the Jarls words before being appointed Arl of this place. His purpose was to be the last bastion of the north, the last refuge for the pale ones. His father sneaked up behind him. He didn't say anything, he didn't have to, his father's proud look was all he needed. It felt like they stood there forever.

Another young face at the council, Ivar af Blót answered Three Rivers suggestion for elective monarchies with a bitter taste in his mouth.

- "I understand what you want to do good Lord, but this government form will replace old conflicts with new ones." He pauses, breathes in and then continues before drawing his sword "And for empty promises..."

The guards draw their swords and start to charge towards him but before they reach him he throws the sword onto the table.

- "Just because I have sworn to not draw my sword does not mean that I can't do it." His voice was angry and he yelled out the last part "THE PALE WILL NOT GIVE FREELY THEIR SOLDIERS TO A KING WHO WILL EXPLOIT THEM FOR THEIR OWN FOUL GREED."

He calmed down and continued.

- "Excuse me, I do not possess the calm of my liege, but I think I made my point."

The Pale does NOT accept any king above him, elective or not

- "I do not trick myself to think I can understand the pain you are feeling. But is it worth to argue 2 chests of gold?" The Arl was pleading to the Elf "Your men, my men are fighting and dying. Don't you think if they could go home to their families because of a small payment, don't you think their children would appreciate that?"
- "I have no rights to demand anything, this is not The Pale's war." he stretched out his hands in an open gesture "We are there as friends to you, and as a friend I urge you to at least consider it. We all want to go home..."

Ivar af Blót was still sitting in his chair, fighting someone with greater magic and no weapon was futile. But he would fight it with his resolve.

- "The Pale serve The Unnamed one, our primary god, you call him a hero" he raises himself and leans forward on the table. "If his action fighting Faðir, The Creator, has doomed us..."

His voice grew stronger for each word he spoke. The last words almost a shout, a presence of strength just by uttering them.

- "Then the Pale Ones shall die in his name fighting for the rights he gave us!"

The Pale joins the side of the Light (( I would rather say The Side of the Unnamed one, but I guess that is the light right? Or maybe the side of Ice.... ))

Ivar stares at Adelbert, remembering for a moment before he were himself. He walks up to Adelbert Von Knapsen, grabs him by the collar and slams him into the wall and screams with all his might.

- "WAKE UP!" And he punches him in the face.

Ivar grabs a hold of Knapsens skull and stares into his eyes.

- "You are not alone brother! No man should ever be alone." he started whispering. "No man should be without a will or soul. Oh Unnamed one, may you guide this one to Eftirheim so he may be with his family." and he prepares to break Von Knapsens neck.

The turmoil eventually calmed down. Ivar found Von Knapsen lying on the ground, at least what was left of him. Carrying his bones he went forward to what was left of the Three Rivers embassy and pledged to them to allow him to perform the Ceremony of the Dead.

Maybe they were in shock and did not understand but yet they agreed. Then Ivar started his long journey carrying the bones back to the champions family. Constantly praying to the Unnamed one.

Alfödr was sitting outside of his tent, watching his army preparing. Dark things were happening, he could feel it in his bones. He was polishing his frozen sword, his legacy. He got cold, his breath visible. He looked up and everything was frozen solid around him. It was a beautiful sight but at the same time menacing, his loyal housecarls as ice statues.

- "The final duty..." something dark moved in the corner of his eye, he tried to yell out but it was as if he's lips were frozen solid. He started moving out of the camp to where he saw the movement

- "Death..." The whisper was inside his head. "The cold kiss"

He were no longer in the forest, he was in the assembly seeing the horror of the twisted elf and his true form. Everything as well were frozen, both in ice and time. He was confused, walked around seamlessly until he saw the dark figure that had been haunting him...

It was no longer a dark figure, a nord man in dire wolf pelts and light blue skin was standing beside Qylan admiring the abomination. He looked over to the Jarl with a smile, a warm feeling started to fill him. No words were spoken, but Alfödr knew who the man was, somehow he knew his name but unable to grasp it in his thoughts. The man looked back to the elf and touched him, slowly starting to thaw, waking to life again. The angry abomination roared, showed his teeth and charged at him. Alfödr put up his hands in the way in an attempt to defend himself... it got cold, very cold....

When he opened his eyes he had awoken and was at the edge of the camp. One of the scouts had been trying to wake him up, the Jarl's frozen hands almost shining in azure color were on the poor boys throat, the boy suffering severely from instant frost bite. For a moment, everything he touched died and froze, as if the life's flame in it disappeared...

As they walked back to the camp he was exhausted and helped by his housecarls to walk. But in the distance he could see the figure watching them and he heard it clear as day.

- "Save my children from eternal damnation, give them the right of the final journey..."

Death: The Necessary Evil
Part 1

Alföðr was still shocked by his vision and his new found powers. He could feel something inside him waiting to leash out at any moment. He was sitting leaned forward on his throne back in Blekborg and rubbed his temple trying to make sense of it.

- "Did I just do that or am I going mad of power?"

The lords of the realm entered the chamber, he raised himself and stood up and welcomed them, but their faces told of them not being here in the same favor. They were all very cautious and worrying. Some were outright furious.

- "HOW DARE YOU DECLARE YOURSELF THE UNNAMED ONE?" Thor af Sálhöfðinn was furious and had drawn his sword, so did his thanes as well, the others watching except Ivar af Blót and the Jarl's own thanes who drew their swords to protect him "YOU FOOLS! HE HAS BROKEN THE ONE COMMANDMENT WE HAVE!"
- "Do not name The Unnamed One..." Alföðr stood up slowly and his dark voice echoed in the throne hall. But in the blink of an eye he stood in-front of his Arl with a raised hand, in the next Thor was flewn across the room. The others took their hands to their swords, the once to protect him started to worry. "I WOULD NEVER DARE TO DO SUCH A THING!"
- "I serve The Pale and I am the protector of The Pale Ones." His presence grew stronger for every word he spoke, as if he's words could be felt trough his speech and with it the warmth of the room died. "If I so I have to sacrifice my soul to The Unnamed One then so shall be it, so do not dare to call me a Lygarí!"

As he said the last words the room's flames all went out and the only light that were not coming from the outside emanated from him, a very dim blue light.

- "I do not know why I have these powers..." He was calming down and life was returning to the hall "But I will use them in honor of The Unnamed One and in protection of our realm... You have my word on that."

It was quite quiet for a long time and tense but Ivar eventually went down on a knee.

- "All hail the Frostsverð's, All hail the eternal protectors of The Pale"

The others followed suit.

From one of the doors Freyr was peeping at his father. He did not know what to think, he was scared but he was not sure what was most frightening. His dad, or the name he has to live up to when it's his turn. The Pale Ones value strength above all, so if Freyr was not strong enough, he might bring shame to the name his father made. Freyr so badly wanted to make Frostsverð the name of legends. But he feared he did not have the strength to do it.

(( Forgot the most important part of the headline, moving it to another part xD ))

Death: The Necessary Evil
Part 2

His little show, impressive as it might have been, it sucked him dry. When they finally left the hall he fell down on the floor exhausted, his thanes hurried to help him to his chambers. Anastasia sitting in there telling her chamber maiden stuff to do was abruptly interrupted when they entered.

- "What happened?"
- "Nothing dangerous, he has just overexerted himself mistress." They put him down on the bed and left the room "He just needs to rest."

She hurried over to him.

- "What did you do, You idiot!" She hit him on the breast but he just smiled "If you die I will never survive in the cold here!"

She had grown fond of him but she was too proud to admit it. But he thought back to his vision and his smile was gone again.

- "What's wrong?" she noticed his despair, it was quite obvious he was troubled.
- "Am... I a servant of the dark?" she tried to joke it away "Of course you are, you kidnapped me."

She noticed he wasn't amused and quieted down.

- "I don't know what side The Unnamed One is one..." he looked into her eyes, as if he could fin the truth in there "He gave me his powers to save The Pale, but I do not know from what..."
- "With powers over a man's soul, how can one call that for being a Lord of the Light?" he covered his eyes with his hands and bit his lip.

Anastasia saw the pain and conflict her husband was fighting. Indeed a man with these kind of powers, the temptation of dark deeds must be hard.

- "Every day... I think of my daughter..." His voice had lost it's strength, he was stuttering and like a whole other person. "...how easy it would be to b-b-bring her back with these p-p-powers..."

He raised himself up, and she hugged him.

- "The dead shall remain dead, you fought the army of a necromancer, don't become the next one..." she tried to calm him "Don't betray The Pale, or you will never be able to face her in Eftirheim."

She did not understand The Pale One's loyalty to their realm or their view of death. But she knew these words were important. She knew it was exactly what he needed to hear. As strong as he might be, the weights he had to carry every day grew heavier and heavier.

Oddr, Chancellor approached the Jarl of The Pale in his chambers as he was preparing to head to the feast he was already late for.

- "Jarl, the thralls are still refusing their dept, it has been too much for their masters to collect personally." The old man sighed and turned around
- "Put my personal housecarls to aid the masters and tell my Arl's to do it themselves as well with theirs. It's our duty to uphold the law." The Chancellor nodded in agreement and started to head out "Before you go, tell my son and my thanes I want them with me on the feast."
- "Will do friend."

The Jarl of The Pale is heading to the Feast accomanied by his son and wife
The Pale will end the thrall rebellion wit the full might of it's army

On the Feast

The Jarl had arrived late, but was hardly noticable, a small group of only 5 people and mostly were quiet. The only thing that gave them away was their sheer body size and their pelts. But in the conference he did speak up as Antonius spoke.

- "What he says in true, not only did he speak bout it before the assembly, but me and my father-in-law spoke about it in secret often. We knew something were not right. One of the Dark Lord's creations fighting a necromancer and suddenly from nowhere knows what needs to be done? At the time I went with it, but I were very cautios."

Freyr af Frostsverð was standing behind his fathers chair as they discussed at the conference. It pained him to see Eylinn tormented by the old men around in the room. He wanted to speak up, but his father knew his thoughts. He was looking back at him with an angry look. The discussion raged on.

Later...

The feast was on, people celebrating their short victory and the peace in the realm. The entertainment was on going, his father was not enjoying it but only looked to his food. His step-mother was so happy to be reunited with her brother again. Freyr didn't bother really, he was looking over the feast to the other side where the elves were sitting. He couldn't help it but something was magical about them, especially one in particular. Eylinn was merely poking her food, seemingly chasing the odd pea with her fork with no interest in eating it.

- "Forget it son..." Alföðr spoke up to him, noticed his obsession "She hates us too much, with good reason."

The boy tried to hide his embarrassment by drinking from his cup of mead but then turned to his dad.

- "But we protected her, how can she hate us?" The old man sighed but explained "To her we are of the same straw as the rest of the Nords, her views will be hard to change."

It became a bit silent as they continued with their roast. As everyone was loud in celebration, the Pale Ones was as quiet.

- "If you do approach her, remember to not bring your thrall, she does not approve of our ways." Freyr was a bit confused of the advice but looked back to the elves. It was quite clear they had no slaves, no thralls no servants. No Eylinn, she was nowhere to be found. The large elf who always was with her by her side was still there, but not her. He was flirting with what was some of the entertainment, a smile sneaked up on Freyr's lips.

He stood up, his father shook his head but he didn't care. He started looking in the host's home after her and his Thrall followed suit. After him he heard his father say "Remember you represent the Frostsverð my son."

It didn't take long to find her, he looked for the most desolate place and hoped she was there. In the balcony, she was leaning on the reeling with her back towards him. He stood stunned, he hadn't thought what to do next, even what to say. He didn't even know why he was here.

Alfödr had seen his son run away from the balcony. He was a bit worried, what had the young boy done now. The old warrior knocked on the door, he could hear small feet on the other side halt. The door opened and the young elf stood in front of him, his massive body put her in a shadow from the torch on the wall behind him. Her ears were glowing red of anger.

- "What?" she was breathing heavily and clearly not in the mood of company.
- "Excuse me Therain, I wanted to see and check so you were fine?" He was quite taken by suprise, it was not her usual self.
- "Would you be so kind as to come in and shut the door, milord?" She put a mask on hiding her anger but it was still there.

She walked backwards toward a small table in the middle of the room. The Jarl entered and closed the door behind him.

- "My boy missed you at the feast, he went on an adventure, did he find you?"

Eylinn adapted a face more sinister than that of a Rabid boar, her face turning red in even pace with the strength of her screams, and her eyes burning in their deep blue abyss.

- "What the fuck is wrong with your people?! Why do you keep insisting on forcing your customs upon others, again, and again, and again?! First in Green Chasm, you bring me my soldier's bone. And now, your son comes with all good intentions of a decent conversation, only turning it into a... A... Violation! I don't care how you court in the Pale! I don't care how you wear your weapons at feasts! I don't care! Have you not at least learnt some shred of humility? Some decency?! Some bloody courtesy?!" Hear eyes were tearing, part rage, part sorrow, part pleading.

The Jarl hung-off his pelts on a nearby chair. His bronze colored armor was glistering in the light of the fire. Blue runes were inscribed all over the armor and it was dented from wars. He looked over to her charade and raided an eyebrow.

- "He tried to woo you? I apologies upon his behalf, but he was most probably dying of fear inside of him. I expected him to just watch you from afar as usual not daring to speak to you."

Eylinn panted, trying to summon words but they would not come to her. Instead she sat down on a chair, refusing to look at Alfödr where he stood.

- "If you want I can forbid him to ever to speak to you again."
- "I... You don't have to do that." She burrowed her palm into her forehead.
- "Good, because he would probably just ignore me anyway" A small smile grew on his lips.
- "I was just startled, that is all. I had no idea your son carried such feelings." She moved her hand down to her eyes, hiding them.
- "I don't think he knew himself until today either. I suspected on the other hand..."
- "It's no matter. I am mostly angry at myself anyhow."
- "Why would that be? It is my son that has wronged you, you have all right to be angry."

She glanced on him for a moment but quickly moved her gaze into the fireplace.

- "I didn't dislike it... I wanted to, but I didn't. And that makes me angry."
- "Why would you want to dislike it? Because he reminds you of the countless crimes my kindred did to yours?" he sighed, and reached into his armor and pulled out a knot of weird design. "What I am holding is his promise to protect the elven lands, he led the troops at mirrorwater, not me. I was there looking over his shoulder but he led them. That is what you should see when you look on him"

Alfödr looked from the fire where her gaze was and to her, but on her cheek a tear had started to roll down. She was still starring into the fire.

- "You... It's not about your people. Not his valor, not his pledges. I've left some parts of my life behind me, and I keep telling myself they're gone. But they always creep back on me. They just don't stay... Gone. Do you... Understand what I mean?"

The Nordsman went quiet for a moment, took a deep breath. She looked over to him and could see the pain in his eyes, the same she had.

- "I murdered my liege in anger and stomped on his crown in tears." he showed his sheathed sword, trough the decorative holes one could see the ice shimmering trough "The pain from him raping my daughter and her suicide froze my anger in the tears, but they still pain me"
- "Forgive me, I didn't mean to..."
- "No it's fine it's fine... I just wanted to say that we all have our pain to bear." He put it away and stare into the fireplace "But it should make you stronger, it should make you want to go forward. I will make a world where my son can live, what will you make of the world?"

He stood up and headed for the door and took his pelts on him. Behind him a troubled young maiden struggling with what to say, what to think.

- "You are strong Therain, a true leader of your people with a heart trying to wear their burden" He started to head for the door with his back to her but turned around before saying "So since my son will never dare to ask you, I will do it for him. My son will gladly take your hand in marriage, if you choose to accept it"
- "Wait..."

Eylinn picked up the promised knot and studied it.

- "If what you say about him is true... About, you know..." She was hesitant "But I want him to follow me in the field if we're betrothed, so that we at least can get to know each other. And should it come to that... The marriage would be in the Pale."

He nodded to her from the doorway and proclaimed "It shall be so" then he left.

Eylinn Mindrilla and Freyr Frostsverd are now betrothed.

Freyr was lying down in his bed smiling, butterflies in his stomach, excitement pumping in his veins. "Did I really just do that?" He could have sworn he had done it in a dream. A heavy knock on the door, he raised himself up.

- "Enter!"

His father joined him. Clearly here to tell him how bad he misbehaved, the enjoyment from his lips faded.

- "H..Hi... Hi father."
- "Oh son... the headache you give me..."
- "I'm... I'm sorry." his fists clenched.
- "Sorry? Oh I hope not, you are betrothed to Eylinn my son," a smile grew on both of them.

When Freyr finally realized what had happened he jumped up and hugged his father and was almost crying. The stones in the room became cold, the flames grew weaker and his skin became azure blue... But it was not Alfödr this time, the source did not even realize it.

The father left the room prouder than ever of his son and now for once sure, that the powers given to them were to serve the Light.
