Forum alerts not working

Sometimes, seemingly randomly, I don't get alerts from threads I'm watching, so if I just watch alerts I miss what's been written in the threads I'm following. I notice that I don't get alerts, because sometimes I click New Posts and then I see new posts have been made.

It's a bit annoying, because some of those threads are very popular so there's 20 or 30 pages to catch up, and sometimes the thread gets few replies and then it just drowns in all the other posts people have made and I won't notice replies have been made at all.

If I click a thread that's been missing in the alerts, the alerts works for a few weeks, but in the end it will be forgotten again by the forum that I'm following it.

I don't follow many threads, so I've not seen this issue. To help demonstrate, could you screenshot your alerts to show where you think one should be, then the thread showing the new post (in effect, showing the post that should have triggered the alert with 'New' next to it). This may help the admins track down what is going on

Are you sure you got the "Replies to a watched thread" option checked in Alert Preferences ?

Alternatively you can just click Forums - Watched Threads above, which is what i do with aforementioned option unchecked,
and see all highlighted threads with new posts.

It's checked, I guess I'll just have to go to "Watched Threads" whenever I come here. Thanks for the tip.

Remember also that after one month posts are marked as read regardless of whether or not you have read them.

and if you dont go and look at the thread, after the first alert, it stops alerting

I get weird numbers shown for alerts lately. Today for example when first visiting the forum I got a red 17 above alerts - but instead of 17 new alerts I had only 2 when I hovered the mousepointer above "Alerts" to see what alerts I got.

Me too and i suspect deleted SPAM threads/posts.

I don't think that has anything to do with what the OP spoke about though.
