Why do you think this means PD is intentionally making it impossible? Did it occur to you that Johan's comment to Jake was about the consequence of the upcoming expansion, with its proliferation of provinces? But no, you have to assume the worst. <sigh>

World Conquest was impossible with Victoria II as well, so for me it's not a deal breaker per se.

But willfully modifying EU4 so that WC is no longer possible 8 major patches after release, while it was perfectly possible all the time before, is really annoying.

This there. Or do you mean to say by increasing province count, Paradox inadvertantly made WC impossible, as a byproduct?

I dunno. From all the expansion blockers that PAradox has thrown at us in 8 patches, I don't think so.

I have spent nearly 100 hours trying to get Jihad, BEFORE it was reduced to 'grab 500 or so random provinces'. Then the patch came and my entire game was wort less than disk space it occupied. The patch changed the game completely, making victory impossible for me (while before it I thought I had good chances at it).
So yeah, I am annoyed because PD radically changes gameplay rules every patch and every patch makes it more annoying to conquer stuff. Here is a hint - EU series is ABOUT conquering stuff, everything else you add is simply a way to kill time between conquering stuff. But I guess it's more important for Johan to have a nice multiplayer match in office than give players a nice sandbox game about conquest.

See you around 1.9, although I highly doubt it will do more than 'fix the exploits and limit the conquest even more' so I might not bother to write anything about it.

If the game had been designed from the start as not about WC, that would be fine. It's not a thing that has to be included or balanced around, but it could be.

Once Pdox made the decision to include it, they should have stuck with it. Changing it now is amateurish. I am sure people would be annoyed if they were working towards it but hadn't quite gotten there yet, only for the entire goal to be removed from the game.

It's just a total lack of clear design direction. Is this a game where a potential goal is to conquer the world, or isn't it? That answer to that question should not change a year after release.

No. EU4 is a game where the main and potential goal is to "balance" a SP game around MP.

So I'm not actually sold on AoW making WC impossible.

The main thing I've seen that should make WC harder is more provinces, but the only regions in which more provinces actually matter are Europe, the Middle East, Russia and Horde Lands. So far, indications are that the ME is getting more provinces, and I'd assume the horde provinces might increase a bit, but I haven't heard much about increases to the province counts of Europe and Russia. More Muslim tech group land to conquer will make things harder, but it should be manageable for skilled players. More provinces in East Asia, Africa, and India aren't too big an issue for western (or westernized) countries because you can still one shot them into protectorate status. Sieging them to 100% might take more time, sure, but that shouldn't be that bad.

Obviously we don't have full details on fow the new rebel system works, so for all we know that might be what does it, but based on what's been revealed I think WC should still be doable. Probably not for the likes of Ryukyu anymore (though the likes of DDRJake will certainly try), but I don't see the updates making it impossible.

Not necessarily.

Don't take on too much over-extension, grant high autonomy (which I believe lessens revolt risk?), and abuse vassal feeding. All that and obviously keep a strong standing army (which you should have anyway if you're going for a WC), and you should be able to put down any nationalist rebs. Granted, it'll slow down WC progress, and yeah, it would make runs like DDRJake's last Ryukyu run strategy impossible. The main problem with rebels during WCs is either when your troops are spread thin (ex. stack spawns in Africa when all your big stacks are in Asia) or insane rebel spawns due to OE, and IMO both can be mitigated by focusing troops in a specific area, having a few large vassals (say, Morocco to take all of North Africa) and protectorating everything else. Obviously nat rebels in small islands is going to be a huge pain, but still.

Obviously we don't have all the details of the new rebel system, but the impression I got from the details given so far is that the new reb system gives you more control and more warning over rebellions, so I don't think it should be a game ender. We'll see when it's released, obviously.

I think I wasn't clear, I dont understand why people cry so much about the possibility of WC, I mean, if you don't want it don't try, but if you don't want to do it there is no reason to not allow those who want it to achieve.

here is hoping jake never does a WC ever again, incredibly boring to watch and not unique at all outside some of those nations that have achievements around it

I rather see a game with unique goals like his basquefaction of the new world, now that was enjoyable thorughout the entire run

also WC is overrated guys, though I agree paradox's policy to "slow" down conquest of territories is getting pretty silly

also good job on the WC jake you scrub

here is hoping jake never does a WC ever again, incredibly boring to watch and not unique at all outside some of those nations that have achievements around it

I rather see a game with unique goals like his basquefaction of the new world, now that was enjoyable thorughout the entire run

also WC is overrated guys, though I agree paradox's policy to "slow" down conquest of territories is getting pretty silly

Only small % of eu4 players is interested in such hardcore gaming, as shown by Jake. :)
