We all that the HRE is hard place to expand(espcially if you're not apart of it); however, once you gain a string power base, forming the HRE is easy, somewhat to easy in my opinion. Seriously, one vassalize 4 of the 7 elcetors, you have a guranteed HRE formation(unless you are trying to roleplay). Shouldn't the elctors, regardless of v being vassalize or a junior in a PU support someone besides their overlord? That would me more historical since. What do you guys think?

As a EU3 noob it surprised me, as France, to be supported as potentiel Elector by a freshly vassalized Cologne. I was like "WTF ? I'm not even in the HRE, I'm actually working to destroy it but they are supporting me". Then I saw that 4 out of 7 electors were minor germans states close to my frontier, half of em in succession crisis just waiting for a personnal union with despicable France. Once you managed to beat the crap out Bohemia and Austria its just a free way to Holy Rape Empire.

- Emperor shouldnt choose weak electors, come on, out of 7 electors 5 of 'em totalize... 7 provinces in my current game.
- Elector shouldnt support a country who is not a member of HRE
- Actualy if you get vassalized you should lost your Elector title because you sucked

- The seven historical electors are rather weak - only Bohemia and Brandenburg are a little bit larger
- This did happen in history, so why should it be impossible in the game?
- Well, the rules for the HRE weren't simply changed like that.

So the current version is quite historical.

Well, I think there should be a nerf for non-HRE members when it comes to getting elceted. The Game is just not as challenging when you just blob over everyone once you've assured your position as emperor...

Forming the HRE at any point in time is easy, but if you don't heavily exploit the game mechanics it isn't really much faster than traditional expansion.

Quite so. Passing all eight reforms requires that you take actions producing a minimum of 400 Imperial Authority. Without hordewar or conversion-to-Orthodox cheese, you aren't going to get that much IA without seriously restraining your own expansion to stay small enough as Emperor to not completely intimidate the rest of the world into respecting the Empire's territorial integrity.

Expand influence all over the place and wiat for reformation to hit. Enforce religious unity and keep infamy low and its a doddle.

I managed to pass the first 7 reforms very fast in my holland game once the reformation finished (not last one cause i don't wanna) though i had already passed 2 and 1 was passed before i became emperor but i passed the other 4 in about 2 years and i have the authority to pass the last.
Once the reformation is over its pretty easy to gain authority especially if you have already diplovassilised about a third of the empire...

By which point traditional expansion would've annexed most of that territory anyways. The very fact that non-cheesy formation methods involve a "wait for the reformation" step already makes them slow.

Forming the HRE is a pain in the ass to pull off, since you need the cooperation of every power in the HRE (which means getting infamy down to near zero and keeping everyone in-religion, or else releasing a lot of vassals at once).

Being elected is much easier.

Unfortunately, in-game it's rare to see a really strong Reformation. The only big powers that ever sign on are in Scandinavia. (In particular, England nearly always stays ahistorically Catholic.)

The Conformance War mechanic does represent the Schmalkaldic League situation pretty well, at least.

I find the easiest way to form the HRE without horde border or waiting till the reformation is to just keep restoring princes, it will throw you into a state of endless war but it gets the job done.

Although even then I still needed the reformation to get that last 50 authority.
