Yes, they are. I mean, if nobody tries to unseat me, they automatically recognize me, don't they?

This seems an awful lot like petty semantics. Just saying.

You can't really be using the argument that arbitrarily declaring yourself Emperor of Nothing is anything like declaring yourself Emperor of multiple historically recognized kingdoms.

I'm going back and forth on the whole ahistorical Empire thing. On one hand I think its a good thing to make things more manageable to the world conquerors out there. And therefore it would add a new goal for a player to aspire to grab. But at the same time, it makes me nervous because say if my current game went to 1.06 I'd probably end up with three imperial titles or close too as I'd have Francia and more then likely Iberia and almost Brittania. Which brings me to the negative part of it, as these empires seem a bit easy to create in all reality.

I mean we keep having the historical v ahistorical debate in this forum, and having the historical bits thrown in is a good thing, but I think entirely basing gameplay around history is a bit too much.

And on that note I'm looking forward to seeing how the AI reacts to these new titles. Perhaps the AI itself will have ambitions to grab these Imperial titles which I think would add a new and more intriguing level of gameplay in these regions, as it would give the King of France reason to attack the HRE because hey he needs Burgundy (I would think anyway) Although on the same note may further hinder the Christian Kingdoms in Iberia because they may be desiring the other kingdoms and further weaken their already fragile stance in front of the Muslim AI.

It wasn't about these kings declaring themselves Emperors, but about people recognizing them. Some guy stated that if no other realm tries to depose him, they all automatically recognize him, which is just not the case. It's even the opposite: If you don't recognize some king calling himself Emperor, why should you even care and fight to depose him?

I'd forgotten about this thread. Might as well expand on the silly metaphor. Let's say that the world for whatever reason recognised the Kingdoms of Your Cupboard, Your Bathroom, and Your Bedroom. In the same way that rulers would recognise any other king title. Let's say you happen to be the king of all three kingdoms. The world now sees you as a legitimate king. Let's say you decide to call yourself Emperor of the House, and delegate the title of Kingdom of Your Bathroom to the large spider in the sink. The spider recognises you as its liege. You now have a king as your vassal. The world is now quite likely to ackowledge you as Emperor of the House, since they also recognise the kingdoms that comprise it and their kings. The neighbours don't contest your claim. You are now an Emperor, regardless of what the magical stray dog in the yard has to say about it.

I'd say, if you're Christian when you create it, maybe have it come at the price of Moral Authority and upsetting the Pope (unless he, of course, recognizes you himself as Emperor).

If not, I could care less. It's a new game mechanic for the sake of adding a little more depth and possibility to the game. If you don't want it, no one is stopping you from just quickly and easily deleting the files for the new potential empires.
