I was extremely entertained when I noticed there was formable Babylon in Vic2, including custom parties. And of course Byzantium for Greece. I'm all for having these kinds of semi easter eggs in the game, if only to spite all those "serious wargamers" :p

On the other hand a lot of the suggestions in this thread are pretty much just name changes. Would be great if the game had a dynamic naming system ala Vic2 based on government and/or certain trigger conditions. Germany as monarchy would be German Empire, Germany as a democracy and Germania or something grand and pompous if they stay fascist and conquer their way to the Ural mountains etc.

Agreed. Would love to see a system like this implemented. And it is kind of historical. During WW2 Germany renamed itself in 1943 the Greater Germanic Reich (Großdeutsches Reich) , annexing many lands to Germany proper. From 1933 to 1943 they were just called the German Reich (Deutsches Reich) .

Germany as monarchy would be German Empire, Germany as a democracy and Germania or something grand and pompous if they stay fascist and conquer their way to the Ural mountains etc.

"Greater Germanic Reich" does not equal "Großdeutsches Reich". "Großdeutsch" doesn't just mean bigger it spesificaly means a unified germany including austria. "german" and "germanic" may sound interchangable in english but they very much aren't. "Deutsches Reich" wasn't a new name in 1933. Before it was Deutsches Reich Weimarer Republik. They just removed Weimarer Republik. The Monarchy too was called "Deutsches Reich."

"Deutschland" wasn't the official name until after the war. German federalstates all consider themselves "Lands" in there own right especially before the Nazis centrilazed everything.

"Greater Germanic Reich" or "Großgermanisches Reich" would be a pan-germanic consept that would make sence as a formable Nation in game. But it really shouldn't stabilize eastern europe. (for resons we can't discuss here) If it should give you cores at all they should be in the lowlands or scandinavia.

I like the idea of including formable/releasable nations but it's hard to come up with usable national unions that don't sound like an easter egg. The problem is the really large states that could pull off conquering a lot usually already have names that imply that they are a Union of sorts. (USA, UK, CCCR,...) Why should they change those. They would have to make Comminwealth, EU or Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere like unions to step it up. Or lots of unions with a small chance of happening:

Greater Netherlands/United Netherlands
United Arab Republic/Arab League
Scandinavia

I really do hope they put formable nations in, as well as releasable nations. Personally I hope that there is more releasable nations in Africa, but then that's just because I like playing as minor nations.
They at least definitely have a system that changes the name of the country depending on what type of government is in form. I don't know how diverse it is, but Wiz did post a picture of if Bhutan becomes Fascist, it gets named 'Thunder Dragon Empire'. Which is a pretty cool addition.

Last thursday I went back and check for myself, what game had "custom nations" that most reflected my own ideas. I found this one; making history II.

In it you could release a country, which you could "design" by giving it cores and you could decide on wether it should follow your ideology. etc.

If this could be implemented (in some form), Yay, if not I''ll be waiting for mods

Sounds a lot like client states in EUIV.

Personally I still hope there is some form of client states feature. These 'de-jure' nations were kind of a hack, some areas in Africa could be only french or italian. Some formable nations didn't make any sense in game context. Like why the hell would I split Korea into North and South if I own them both?

I think being able to change your name could be fun, and would strike a balance between flavor and fantasy formables, since it would really just be a name change.

What I'd really like to see is the ability to release custom puppets just like in EU4. For flavor and fun, although they shouldn't get any cores probably.

We definitely need to be able to dictate what lands our other puppets get though. I don't want to release Poland as a puppet playing as Germany and be forced to give away lands I want to keep. That is a very annoying problem in basically every Paradox game. Something like the Darkest Hour claims system would be great.

Any ability to create your own nations to release/act as buffer states would be awesome.

But, what I would really like is just lots of options. Germany has several constituent states, the UK and USSR do as well. I am not sure I would consider any of the US to be breakable - the modern states (with the exception of Texas) had never been independent before - they were purely taken from natives, and settled.

At the same time, the idea of Gran Columbia and Byzantium is probably dead by HOI4. That doesn't mean you can't add them for some flavor :)

Releasable states don't have to have been independent. Why would that be a requirement? If someone were to utterly beat and destroy the US in a war and wanted to balkanize it, going by states or regions would be logical and fairly easy. And I think all major countries should have releasable states within them.

Yea, that is kind of what I meant by the third piece of my post, with mentioning Gran Columbia and Byzantium. It really would not be realistic to have them in the game - they had long been forgotten as national unions - but it would add some fun and some flavor.

Now, should the US have 48 formable nations? Probably not, but there can be some like the Confederate States, New England, the North Star Republic, the California Republic, and perhaps some others.

Hope that clarifies :p

I think Vic had some good ideas about states and regions that can be released from the US, stuff like New England, Deseret, California, Louisiana, Texas, Columbia etc. Or they could just use the Commonwealths from Fallout :p

I look forward to releasing the Enclave as the new masters of the US.

I guess the issue is that through Vicky 2 these various nations bound the people unto themselves, it was those states that couldn't that had issues Yugoslavia, etc. So it is hard to release too many states that wouldn't feel achronistic or see those shattered nations try to reform as soon as possible.

The Philippines and Korea both got their independence at the end of the war, though the USSR and the USA couldn't agree on a single Korean government. But I think it would be fantastic if there were options to support independence movements in those areas and others where it makes sense.

From DD 34 we know that you can attempt to cause a coup in a country. What I want to know is if we can also support partisans that at the very least can tie up units of the occupying nation and could result in an independent nation forming.

What about Slovakia and Croatia, these were nations created by the German State, I think that any country should be able to create a puppet out of conquered cores and name it what it wants.
Hmm, both Slovakia and Croatia were created by breaking up artificial 'super states' artificially created by the League of nations. And look how Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia turned out in the end. Probably about as well as Grand Columbia would have turned out after forcing countries that have considered themselves separate for centuries to form a union.
