so the new update released a few Filipinos, so does any one know if you can form Philippines as a nation ?

Well, if a native Kingdom united teh Philippines, the state would not be called the Philippines. It would probably be known as the Kingdom that united the islands, so no formable would be nessecary.

Well Philippines didn't get their independence from Spain till 1898, so it might not be possible in game (yet). Or there might be some sort of interaction once the uncolonized lands around them get colonized.

I was thinking something like Japan where once it's united you can pick a decision and change your country name (to Philippines)

My point of contention is that if a native Kingdom would have arisen as dominant, they would not have called themselves the Philippines since thats a purely European name. You can‘t form Bolivia as the Incas, either.

Louisiana is a formable tag as well though. Even if there never was a French king named Louis.
So personally I'd be fine with the Philippines being a tag.

True, but then again, in can‘t be formed by natives and, in practice, will only be formed by former European colonies. So while i would appreciate some more dynamic naming in EuV, Louisiana is still a European colonial name and can atleast somewhat be rationalized by the name of some explorer or that the land was found by the French and the name stuck when someone else colonised it. But, imo, a purely colonial name for a Native Kingdom kills the Suspension of Disbelieve a bit too much.
Then again, you can reform Rome, so why not give the player the choice. Though I still would recomend using a native name for the Philippines for the tag.

That's a totally different situation. It's a nation formed by European settlers which would of course use the European name. Like Mexico, Brazil, the USA etc.

I don't really see how this is any different from Japan. The Japanese don't (usually!) call their land "Japan", either. EUIV as a whole uses mostly localized names. So, Philippines would be fine.

Yes, but Japan is at least predicated on what they call their nation(Nippon). "Philippines" is a totally European creation. They are not the same situation.

Did they have their own native name for the archipelago?
Probably won‘t be an easy choice since i think to recall that the pre-colonial Philippines where very multi-lingual.

I don't really see how this is any different from Japan. The Japanese don't (usually!) call their land "Japan", either. EUIV as a whole uses mostly localized names. So, Philippines would be fine.
The diffence between the Philippines and Japan/China is that these names pre-date european colonial endevours. They where pased on names that diverged over the centuries and hundreds of miles, but are more or less the ‚translation‘ of the regional names. The Philippines were named after an European Monarch, something that wouldnd have happened if they would have been of a bigger significance and would not been colonised like they were. Note that Japan, China, India and even much of Local Indonesia did not recieve a ‚made-up‘ colonial name. Also note that even India, one of the countries with a precolonial european name cant be fromed, but the respective local equivalents, e.g. Hindustan, can.

Yet when Ming or Japan colonizes the area their colony would still known as Chinese/Japanese Lousiana and when these colonies break free they are just as eligible to form Louisiana as any European colonial tag.

yeah but that's just for the sake of practicality. there is no 'native' name for the region of land that the game refers to as colonial louisiana, so it just goes with a recognisable name instead

Calling it Colonial Mississippi, rather than Louisiana, would work for just about all cultures and be just as accurate. 'Mississippi' being the French version of one of the native names for the river whose basin makes up the territory.

So personally I'd be fine with the Philippine being a tag.

There were already 10 or so King Louis by 1444. Louisiana is formable by former colonial nations. That's not even a slightly valid comparison.

Having the native states of the archipelago rename their country after a Spanish king of they conquer enough of each other would not make sense.

Not even sure there was a concept of the archipelago being a thing as a united whole in their own languages, the particular islands were all quite distinct and different back then and nobody ruled all of their own island, let alone the entire archipelago.
