The SS-Verfügungstruppe and subsequent Waffen-SS began with less training, little heavy equipment, as well as old stock and captured weapons. They lacked experienced officers, and took significant losses in 1940. In 1941 from Barbarossa on they started gaining a reputation for fanaticism and zeal in battle, cultivating an 'elite aura' which at times was even praised by the ever suspicious army. Some units were enlarged and upgraded with better equipment 42-43, including new armored vehicles. Recruitment from all over Europe had expanded greatly by 1944, but by then so many of the old crack troops had been wiped out in the east. All of this seems manageable by the game mechanics as is, but I bet someone will make a mod.

I think this is too big a scope for SS-Divisons.
Exactly. The SS were not 'special' or 'elite', at least not all of them, so they shouldn't enjoy special treatment.
In this context, the 'fanaticism' of a nation's troops could be represented by a small morale bonus, applied nation-wide.

Morale is how fast you regain organization, if you are fanatic you should lose organization slower rather than regain it faster, else the fanatic would retreat just like regular demoralized soldiers!

i think it should be represented, not because they were elite, not because they were different, because they existed. It happened and in a game like Hearts of Iron it should be represented, and i actually don't know if the Mods would help since i can't even get achievements with them. I just wanted to show and ask for a representation of honorable soldiers who died in WW2. All it takes to do that is give the ability to add a little flag on some divisions and the historical ones could be created from, as i said, diplomatic options. And the indians who fought for the British? the nepalese? will they too be forgotten?

As said, you can rename divisions to what you want. But some units where not of division size? Will you be able to rename regiments? Also. I wish there was an event/choice that would let you get volunteers from occupied countries etc.

The "British Free Corps" however... That is a bit too small, they weren't even at troop size I believe ;)

Simply create a "division" of sub-divisional size (~6 batallions for a brigade, ~3 for a regiment) and there ya go.

This is also how you can represent those independent wehrmacht (or waffen ss) heavy tank/ tank destroyer batallions. Create a "division" of 2 heavy tank batallions with whatever support companies you like, and call the template Schwere Panzer Abteilung.

Did I miss something? Division templates and individual divisions can be named. You can create all the SS divisions you want. (Or you can not waste your time and XP and do something useful with it.)

Hell, I will probably create an SS 1975th Ilsa-She Wolf Division, because why the Hell not?

EDIT: I might even mod in the appropriate leader for it, complete with portraits.

I'm with Kriegs on this one. I would love to see some different flags to represent as many different parts of the historical aspect of the game that can be had. And why not? After 1k hours of HOI3 and by the looks of it thousands of hours more playing 4 beginning in the very near future why not have a little bit of a change up in the looks department? So it is only cosmetic? That is fine by me. My eyes/brain see a game not code and calculations etc. Won't you make my eyes happy?
I also want to be able to hire all types of fighters from all over the world. If they were involved in WWII hopefully they will make their way into 4. I'm not suggesting it has to be implemented by Paradox. A mod will do the trick as well.

A template under the existing game works fine for the German SS formations - what is missing is a mechanism for non-German manpower volunteer SS formations to be created.

You get some MP from occupied lands, that covers Waffen-SS volunteers

That's what I was thinking. That manpower from Norway will, in my mind at least, be going to the 793rd SS Lindisfarne Raiders Division with its own special template for amphibious attacks (and maybe a battle axe mod for the infantry equipment, because, again, why the Hell not?)

Cosmetic changes that don't affect game checksum would be nice.

But judging from experience of other games and considering the way equipment is handled in the game, tracking and using separate manpower pools is wasted energy for the player and the coders better used to figure out how to easily mod in lists of unit names for various national forces used on certain templates.
