Foreign legions around the world

Hi,

So France has a foreign legion. And I think Spain has one as well, though I'm not completely sure that it is a "real" foreign legion.

Who else?

Does any other country have a military formation that is mostly made up of foreigners, and where almost any nationality can join and not just selected ones like in the Gurkha units?

IIRC, the Spanish Foreing Legion is divided in three Tercios, one based in the Canary Islands and the other two in Ceuta and Melilla (ovbiously to defend that cities from a Moroccan attack). The funny thing is that like 1/4 or 2/3 of the Legion are Muslim Moroccans.

Because of the lack of interest in joining the military between the native Spanish populaton, now the army accepts foreigners (Latin Americans) and I think they are talking about accepting North Africans.

there are 7000-8000 men like the french foreign legion.
