Hello all! I saw this on steam recently and craving a good strategy game I decided to pick this up on a whim (I won't lie. The picture I saw on the net of the rail artillery also made me want to pick it up) and then was quickly overwhelmed by the complexity of the game and am still trying to come to terms with the mechanics. So I come to you for help.

I started a game as Canada in the 1936 scenario since I figured the UK and eventually USA would protect me as I learnt the game and I started picking on the nations in South America, figuring that the IC would build up as I conquered more nations. However, I've found that not working out so well. I've read the manual to a degree and understand that annexed nations will not give you their full IC and resource capacity but around how much do you roughly get? It didn't really seem to be worthwhile as while my theoretical IC jumped a bit, my actual IC didn't increase much beyond what it initially was.

I also noticed that under the tool-tip for IC, there was the Occupied Provinces effect taking a nasty chunk out of my theoretical base IC. Is there a way to reduce that or is my nation forever doomed to be stuck with 2 tech teams unless I conquer some of the nations with a higher base IC?

Apart from appointing ministers who get you a higher foreign IC% increase, there's not a whole else you can do to get more IC out of territory you've annexed that isn't part of your national provinces. You could theoretically build better infrastructure or more IC in those provinces, but why would you want to do that when you can improve your national territory and get full benefit from it? (IIRC, the proportion of IC you get from occupied territory is 1/5th its normal value.)

There's several tricks you can do to get past this:
1. Turn Full IC takeover on (the cheater's way ;))
2. Liberate a nation you've annexed. It will become your puppet, give you most all of its resources, and produce its own units to aid you. Only problem is you'll take a 5% dissent hit. And the units it produces will probably be much more inferior to those you could make.

This is why it's harder to WC as a minor nation than as one of the superpowers. Of course conquering all of the United States will increase your IC by about 50 at least, but you should focus on IC building in your own nation to reach the threshold for new tech teams.

Oh, although it is worthwhile to go to war with some of South America because you will get their resource stockpiles when you conquer their capital and resource production is only halved. Conquering Venezuela gave me 300k oil.

Hmm. Most unfortunate that I'll be denied all that IC (Maybe I'll use the Full IC in the future but I want to try to stick to the normal rules for now, heh). I think my current game is way too late for me to change things though since the Soviet Union has the majority of Europe before the allies attempted D-Day. My own units had to perform a mini-D-Day just to ensure Paris remained in French hands.

Regardless, thanks for the information. I must now ponder whether to restart my game or try a bigger nation.

Canada is alot tougher in AOD than it was in HOI2...They can barley provide any assistance and are weak throughout the game.
