I'm emperor of almost all Europe and almost all Africa and I have a weak claim on the Byzantine Empire. Sadly, none of the multiple civil wars fought by the basileus is of a kind I need to force my claim on it (all of them are peasant uprisings, inheritance laws changes and stuff like that). So how could I "help" the byzantines to fight a civil war fitting my claim's requirements (woman ruling is dicarded, it almost never happens)?

Thank you in advance

One thing you could do is just kill the emperor jntil you have a child emperor on the throne.

Assorted ideas:
- Are there any women or children with strong claims you could get into your court? If so, press their claims, then go to war with them to claim the throne.
- Are you Catholic? You could invite a male claimant, convert him to your religion, have your pocket Pope excommunicate him, press his claim, and then request an invasion (even though you're larger than he is, I think your claim will allow you to request the invasion).
- Murder the emperors until a child or a woman comes to the throne.

Are any of the revolts from a refusal of revocation/imprisonment? I've noticed in my games that the Basileus typically revokes a lot of titles tyrannically, in which case the rebel leader will have an "Overthrow Ruler" CB against him. Help that rebel win and the Basileus will be forced to abdicate, and if his heir is a minor you can press your claim immediately.

I used this to conquer Lithuania for my crown prince in my Ireland game: he had a weak claim via his mother and the Slavic pagan King of Lithuania tried to revoke a chief who had converted to Catholicism, and I sent a few thousand Irish troops to the chief's aid and overthrew the King, then immediately declared war on his eight-year-old son.

Only downside was, my son ended up with the "Usurper" nickname...

Sorry but I don't understand this one. If press their claims, they'll be the new emperor, not me. o_O

This is a really evil plan :p:D. Sounds interesting, but I'm afraid I will never get the invasion option. You can only get if you're smaller, certainly not my case.

- Murder the emperors until a child or a woman comes to the throne.

I would try it if election law wasn't active. Sadly all heirs are always adult males.

Ah, but since they're a woman and/or a child, they are vulnerable to weak claims like yours. So you make them emperor, then immediately turn around, betray them, and become emperor yourself.

Little-known fact: it's actually if you're smaller than them OR you have a claim. ;)

The problem with the woman and the children idea is that elective succession only leaves weak claims to other heirs

Check the revolt leader's diplomacy menu to see if the "Offer to Join War" option is available. It's possible it won't be: when I did what I mentioned up there, the cause for title revocation was pagan/Catholic religious differences, and I also don't know if a Catholic can join an Orthodox ruler's war.

But I've been on both sides of this: I helped Urguist Circinn usurp Pictland from Ciniod Uib at least once, and in one iteration of my Ireland-from-d_isles game Urguist Circinn backed my half-brother in a rebellion against me. It definitely works, I just don't know for certain the conditions where you can do it.

Downside?
Yeah, 'cause I was hoping to vassalize the papacy as my then-prince and conquer Lombardy with a sanctioned invasion so he'd be Emperor Sechnassach the Conqueror. Oh well, maybe I'll do it with his son Conchobar.

Tried it but it wasn't available. :(
