I'm playing as France and trying so hard to force the Burgundian Inheritance to trigger.

What a pain so far... carpet sieging the whole country and still I can't manage to get it, at least not unless sitting on this useless war for a decade, with my war exhaustion spiking to 14-20 with massive revolts.

Is it just me or has this event become a lot less likely to happen in the latest patches?

Interesting. I am playing France BBB run now and I wondered if it is worth to try get Inheritance. It seems not. And their king is only 32 yrs old.

As for now I haven't touched Burgundy yet, and I am not aiming to due to high development.

The best time to hit them with a long war of siege everything is when they have a ruler with no heir. That significantly runs up the MTTH of the Inheritance. Another thing that will help keep YOUR war exhaustion down, is to not finish the siege on the province that is the war goal. Because then the war won't be "over." It doesn't work forever I don't think, but it certainly helps.

Personally, as France I like it much more when the event doesn't fire. That gives me the opportunity to swallow up all of Burgundy on my own. Let's face it, France getting all of Burgundy's provinces is a very happy and healthy France. Hopefully I'll also be able to break all the PUs; so just in case the event does fire later, at least Austria won't get all those rich provinces to turn them into a bigger enemy.

The age of their king is irrelevant. The event causes the king to die, not the other way around.

Hmmm.. I thought that event fires when king dies during the War (in battle or because of age) so him being old increases chances.

Of course is it worth to get inheritance, the question is if it's worth to actively pursuit it when you are on BBB run. Sitting on 20 AE for several years like OP doesn't sounds fun and helpful.

Not occupying war target is an idea, but it means you need to fight Burgundy alone - otherwise war ally or some vassal will occupy it instead of you. And fighting Burgundy, PU's swarm and Burgundy's allies (Bretonia most likely) is doable alone but isn't optimal choice for BBB run either I think.

the trick is not to declare war on burgundy, but to attack one of their allies, occupy burgundy, and don't call allies so you can ignore the other ally. no call for peace. brittany is often a good target, as they tend to ally just burgundy and maybe a minor here or there.

France starts with Force Limit 32. If you attack Brittany without your allies you'll have to face Burgundy (FL 18), Brittany (FL 10), Brabant (FL 8) Flanders (FL 7), Holland (FL 7) Nevers (FL 5).
Total FL 32 vs 55. And AI tends to go slightly over FL during a war. Even with smart starting moves (like killing Brittany starting army with one blow) i would say it's hard nut to crack. Doable but still...

It's a gamble just as it has always been. Triggered it like 4 times out of maybe 6 playing Muscovy, and out of these successfull attempts maybe 2 resulted in me having racked up 20 WE. I once almost quite since it didn't seem worth it, but kept playing and screwed up later on.

As for me, I think it's fine to spend 10 years on it with BUR fully occupied. If it doesn't fire, I start considering trashing the campaign and starting it all over again.

isn't the idea to keep a warscore of 7o to 75% versus burgundy? Been ages since I done it, but occupying them FULLY might actually block inheritance, as does letting THEM occupy any of your provinces.

But I do agree, it can be pain. Things you want in eu4 never happen easily, and things you don't want happen just like that out of blue.

Sometimes I swear the game does exactly the opposite of what is more convenient for your needs.

Playing France or Austria? Good luck with that.
Playing as a Dutch minor? I can guarantee you that that the king will die within a couple of years.

In my latest Byz game, Castile got the Inheritance in 1468, and then declined the Wedding two years later...craziness.

As some may know, when I play Castile, my opening move is to set up the Inheritance, France can get the whole kicking kaboodle, just become Emperor, I mean, Castile used to be able to do that, but since around 1.12 coalitions would kill you. France can grab a couple small electors over 20 or so years, get elected and launch the war.

Now, it doesn't always work, I have had it fire within the first month of a war with France, that's always funny, I've also had it fire when they were at war with Liege and Gelre, only.

But it is most lucky based, there are things you can do to push it, and put yourself in the most favourable circumstances. Nothing in history was guaranteed to happen. I like the system they use, it adds and element of chance to it.

Good! Player France is strong enough without making it trivial to get another tonne of land for free.

So (seemingly) true. I have 2000+ hours in EU IV, and that's alot of games. I do not recall a single example of this event ever firing when Austria was not still Emperor.

So of course currently I am Teutonic Order and going for Baltic Crusader. For the first time in as long as I can remember an alliance with Austria as Emperor is a cornerstone of my strategy. But then Austria get a regency, Hesse becomes Emperor and the event fires and Hesse get the land. Oy vey

I'm playing as Brandenburg with a RM with Burgundy and I'm emperor of the HRE. I have fully sieged Burgundy twice, sat on 100% WS for 5 years and never does the BI fire....wtf???? I think the mechanic is broken or something, Does anyone have the actual event chance? Is the chance of it firing a function of their rulers age? Can it happen after 1500? It's 1499 right now so I'm wondering if this was my last go at it.

The mechanics listed on the wiki page are still correct afaik. Doesn't happen after 1500.

There are actually two separate events, one that occurs while they're at war and one that occurs at peace.

As France, the good thing about doing this at game start is that they start with the Duke as a general, which gives an extra chance for the event to occur. In fact I would not worry about war score and just kill Brittany's army and then defend your forts against Burgundy. If he dies before the event fires, then rinse and repeat until it happens.

Since the event changed France is excluded from inheriting the low countries through Royal Marriage -- I'm not sure if they will get the 10% chance by being Emperor.

The event isn´t broken, but there are some things that resets the MTTH which actually is about 500 months... However, regency and female ruler ensures that the trigger doesn´t happen so that could be it...

Ways to make it increase faster is actually NOT to go 100%, since the most you need for largest discount on MTTH is 75 or 80%... However, that does make it beneficial in another way, since having ruler or heir being general actually decreases MTTH further, meaning leaving them land to make a few troops to put their monarch into makes it happen faster... I think, if you get all the modifiers available... it should be down around 50-100 months on average...
