I was under the impression that only Counter Reform Catholic nations could force convert Protestants.

I am playing as a Reformed France and in 1710 I won a major war against a Counter Reform Austria. I took 4 provinces and the option for force conversion was open so i took it.

And wow Austria is now Reformed and later a French vassal. :)

So is this starnge or was i mis informed about force conversions?

btw A refomred France is a really interesting game I reccomend it. And the alternative events are really cool. Like the 'Expulsion of the Catholics" instead of Protestants.

:)

FC is available for everyone, provided a separate peace is to be signed, and the religions of the two countries are in the same religious group (or the victim is pagan)

No.
First, being a Sole Defender of Faith or CRC or Reformed has nothing to do with the ability to force convert.
Second, you can always convert Pagans.
Third, Sunni can convert Shi'ite and vice versa, Catholic or CRC can convert Protestant or Reformed and vice versa.

In order to force convert another nation, provided you are able to do so by one of the cases above, you need a high enough war score (50% IIRC) and you need to sign a separate peace treaty with them. If they are a leader of the alliance, you can choose to sign a separate peace treaty by clicking their shield in the first peace negotiations screen. NB you also have to change it to say "separate" even if they are the only country you're at war with an the whole "alliance" you're fighting consists of just them.
