In 1896 the Sultan of Zanzabar, (which is now a some part of Africa) died and the prince automatically assumed the title. This prince did not support the British and they wanted to appoint their own Sultan.

He defied them (without having an army or navy) and the British sent 5 warships. They blasted his palace to bits and he surrendered after 38 minutes. Which makes it the shortest war in history!

Its better than you think, as part of the peace treaty he paid for our shells fired in the bombardment that destroyed his Palace.

I have a feeling Bin Ladin does not have enough money to pay for the missles the US has fired on him and his band.

No, but that shouldn't stop the US from taking possession of as much of it as possible. :D

True, but spending money to get what you want has never stooped anyone before. How much of the assets siezed, and then used to pay fines handed out by a federal court recently against his organisation was it?, i read it but its slipped my mind, anyways no point having a big stick if you dont wave it now and again.

War

I think there was a two or three hour war between Nicaragua and Honduras after the two countries played a very close soccer game. It was decided on a technicality, and riots broke out on both sides, and those riots led to border scurmishes. Is my story correct?

Thankyou. I had a rather large problem remembering that one!

But zanzibar wasnt major power. France was expected to face the germans, and could have delay their demise.

Also the Six Days war in the mid east

Well, Germany took over Denmark in one, whole day. And they took Yugoslavia w/some 115 odd deaths and 500 some casualties.

But 38 mns.... That's fast.
I thought it was 2 hours for Denmark. At least that how they told it in school, Denmark took 2 hours and Norway 2 months.

that may be the shorter time for a country (with army and Navy) to surrender. But Denmark have the disadvantage of lacking any natural defences.

You are quite right Janbalk. There is no way Denmark was going to stop the germans, especially since the country is virtually flat, no natural bottlenecks, and no rivers to croos. More importantly the Danish army was cought on the wrong leg. The germans actually sailed into the harbour of Copenhagen on a regular freight ship and unloaded a battalion of troops. The danish government debatted whether to surrender or put up some form of resistance, no matter how short lived, to save some honour, but decided that is was pointless. This decision no doubt played a mojor role in allowing Denmark to get through the war relatively unhurt.

On a slightly different note, that attack on denmark was IIRC the first time the wehrmacht used paratroppers. This was to secure the airbase at Ålborg, as this was considered vital for the attack on norway.
