All those new trade mechanics I bet there is a war declaration to force ship basing rights / trade rights. Russia was worried that Ukranian peasants were going to change the government type and align them more with western governments, and then cancel ship basing, so they broke stability in order to enforce ship basing rights or something. They're just occupying while they consider the AE from just taking the provinces for themselves.

well its actually a Force Government change Casus Belli to change them from democratic to a republican dictatorship. No wonder they got massive AE from other Democratic governments but little to no AE with other Dictatorship types.

I Think the biggest problem is that meny of the european states have been at low military maintenance for far too long. Now when the Russian beast has woken from its slumber there is little we can do exept forming a coalition agains Russia in hope that it will scare them enought not to DoW Ukrain with it's "change goverment" CB.

The problem is that Russia has wiped out the hordes, and China has westernized (and they have scary manpower). There aren't many ways left to expand, they already tried Afghanistan, but those mountain terrain bonus NIs are the killer, so the only natural way to expand is into Ukraine.

Think about it. The reason I even started that line is because it's the closes we see in the EU IV timeline, though I was thinking more EU than NATO.

Loose coalition of disparate states to preserve from outside influence, certain states have greater power (electors/ France, Germany, Italy, etc.) and dictate direction of larger group, one single state in central Europe has de facto control over others, but can lose power if their influence/ strength/ economy falter (Emperor/ Germany), states can be added if their reputation with controller is high enough, or removed at a relations penalty, and England is the new Burgundy (partially involved, but has yet to add capital/ capitol). It's basically the HRE after internal wars disabled.

Russia is worried about losing cores all over the place, they should probably ally China and just seize the Ukraine as it would have a cheap coring cost after you harsh treatment the locals. This an Eu3 problem though, cascading alliances all over the place and coalitions form before war.
