Just look at Russia, who has successfully fabricated a claim on Crimea, and now will be attempting the old vassalize-diplo annexation tactic. The AE response from Europe and the US has been outrageous... I mean, the US isn't even on the same continent!

Agreed.

Aggressive expansion needs a serious buff so it can live up to the demands of the modern world.

In this instance, Russia fabricating a claim on the Crimea should cause the entirety of NATO to enter into a coalition and then should promptly insult and embargo the Russian beasts.

AE works differently in the 2000s than it does in 1600.

Not sure if the claim you speak of falls into the timeframe of EUIV. I highly doubt that, though.

Haha. You have been INSULTED by Baluchistan! Teach these insulting dogs a lesson! You have been INSULTED by Ireland!

...

Byzantine nationalist will rise, rebel, and despite Russian support, also immediately rival and embargo them. Time for an INSULT.

All that because of Ukraine having -3 stability (or more since Peasant War + Monarch embarrassing the court). This caused Russians to rebel in Crimea.

Hope a 3rd World War wont happen.

Peasant rebels occupying most of western Ukraine, Russia sees opportunity to reclaim cores.

Occupying without permission isn't modeled well in eu4 though

See part of the outrageous AE is because they got caught trying to sow discontent, and ever since the Cold War patch AE from separate events is multiplicitave of each other, not additive.

So they have gotten caught Support Rebels, Sow Discontent, and have invaded their neighbor, who was attempting to add territory to the HRE. Multiplied together and Russia really needs to start a new game, or lie low for a few decades. To top it off, they got caught doing the same thing 6 years ago in the same region. No wonder a coalition is forming.

All said this seems to be WAD.

But have they invaded Ukraine? Surely this would have cancelled their fleet basing rights? What's really happened is that while Ukranian stability was low due a change of government caused by rebels occupying the capital, Kiev, he must have got Russian nationalist rebels to defect Crimea to Russia. But I expect he'll turn it into an Orthodox Crimean vassal to make sure he doesn't have to incur the admin MP costs, and to lower AE (which I believe it does in this patch).

It won't. USA's War Exhaustion is too high, and the EU can't risk losing it's trade income. Vladimir Putin could clearly use some more diplo points though...I'm betting he's a 4/1/5.

Don't forget about all the loans the USA has. I feel sorry for Ukraine. Improving relations did not help them here.

They're backed by the Holy Roman Empire which for some reason, Spain, Portugal, GB, Ireland, all of Italy, Denmark, Sweden, even Greece and Finland is a member of! But Russia and its protectorate the Golden Horde does have influence.

But.... I bet alone Sweden could defeat all of them combined.

yeah man. I mean this game is too unrealistic. I mean the whole russia thing is a good example. However, russia wont declare war, as there is a stability hit when there are fleet basing rights ;)

I'm beginning to think my text based internet sarcasm isn't going so well :(

The ability to ignore all the equally sarcastic posts playing along with your sarcasm is pretty miraculous. I think Russia would've been in a tight spot with all that AE just begging for Sweden to bring its überstacks into Kola/Novgorod and start to fabricate claims while stackwiping most of Russia's inferior forces. Manpower won't save them if they have little discipline and morale.

In their defence, HRE and USA have been supporting rebels in the Ukraine and in Russia's allies for some time. Russia just looks to be positioning troops to protect its cores from being lost to rebel stacks...after all, it just lost a personal union
