How well did it go for each of the faiths in your game? I feel the Orthodox made very little gains in mine, despite the high probability of conversion.
There was certainly some instability from it during my game, lots on independence wars, etc. Eventually, it came to be that the following nations stayed Catholic:
HRE
Norway
Sweden
Castille
France (eventually)
Hungary
Pope (holds Duchy of Seville from a crusade for Andalusia)
The following went Orthodox
Bohemia (successfully revolted from HRE)
Poland
Denmark
England
Scotland
France (initially)
Leon-Aragon (dual Kingdom)
From there, the following happened:
Denmark, which actually had been controlling Norway and Sweden up to that point, was holy war'd successfully by the HRE, becoming a vassal of the HRE and having independent Norway and Sweden emerging).
Poland was mostly absorbed by the HRE, with a bit taken by Sweden. They're down to two, disjointed provinces.
Bohemia ate the top half of Hungary due to a series of Hungarian revolts. My vassals (of Rome) holy warred most of the southern and eastern provinces.
Unfortunately, before the Great Schism was mended, Spain was set to be united under the rule of Castille once the Queen of Leon and Aragon passed away. Castille was Catholic, that Queen went Orthodox. Now, Spain is united as a Catholic Hispania.
Recently, the HRE just won a holy war to take Bedford off of England.
Also, there basically were never any Russians in my campaign. They essentially got wiped out by Muslims from Volga Bulgaria in the early to mid 12th century. Game is currently in the mid 13th century. I own from Egypt to Mesopotamia, the Ilkhanate own all of Persia and Arabia. The Muslims got absolutely demolished in this game (vanilla 1.07) and there is no Sunni or Shia Caliph in existence. The only remaining independent Muslim states are Abyssinia, Mauretania, and Mali.
Has anyone else seen the Catholics be so successful after the end of the schism? The only strong Orthodox powers seem to be the Roman Empire and Bohemia (at least, the HRE hasn't bothered attacking them yet). Even being isolated by water doesn't seem to have spared England the ambitions of the Holy Roman Empire. And any hopes of an independent, Orthodox Spain seems gone.
