FTM shows how good HOI3 can be, it feels like a complete game

Still it have crashed two times for me.

I Like it and hope it will be patched for free many times.

My first impressions?
  • Looks like some big improvements.
  • I'm really unhappy about the Reserves issue, and will be looking to mod that out if possible, unless it's changed.
  • I get too many crashes, not related to Theatres tab, to play at the moment. The last one, playing as Germany, happened at the Spanish Civil War intervention decision.
I'll go back to my previous SF2.04F game until Friday.

No first impressions of the game yet, I probably won't get to it until I finish a couple games of Distant Worlds, but I do have a huge beef: my icon. What happened to the hammer and sickle? Now I have some kind of red star with a grey blob in the centre. Absolutely unacceptable! I demand a Pardox employee respond to this immediatly or the workers shall unite! But probably not until next week because of the long weekend. Count yourselves lucky. ;)

As usual I am disappointed in Motherland mediocre improvement of same old vanilla compared to Didays Mod with much more meat on the bones. Armageddon had much more meat for tech etc. despite its flaws. Motherland is lazy mans addition just more mediocre vanilla improvements. I bet heavy ships still don’t suffer much from air attacks like they did in real life examples Prince of Wales and Repulse sunk by the Japanese or our fleet sunk at Pearl Harbor. And you can still build stuff like a ship anywhere you want and deploy it. Example ships really s/b built at specific ports as in real life and not any port you choose when they are done. Supply s/b traced to your home country not dependent on allies when in allied land. Still no Waffen SS combat units because of Liberal PC nonsense. Motherland is not worth the 19.99 I paid for it.

Since no dev diaries or advertisement for this expansion has said anything (that I'm aware of) about new ships or naval techs, most of this should hardly come as a surprise?

Another issue is when the capital falls you lose all resources and supply. The only effect it should have is reduced morale for the troops. Supply and resources s/b trade to supply depots and factories you still hold. Logistical and strategic bombing effect s/b be reduced by at least 2/3 rds V1 and V2 were ineffective except as terror weapons yet in game they are very effective

Excellent speed increase, even on my single core system. Loving the zoom-to-cursor. Absolutely thrilled at being able to unassign all leaders. Strategic resources seem like a cool flavour item. Toughness/Defensiveness fix is good to see as is the reserve mission fix. Increased importance of party support is a nice beginning towards making the politics tab useful and/or interesting.

Concerns: Threat increase rate, I modded it back to .01 pending the next balance change. Incompatibility with DI:G, hope this is dealt with soon as the game seems a little bland w/out it. Mapcache crashbug, very bad as I need to delete my cache asap to correct a problem. No manual, what were you guys thinking?

Here are just a few questions I have already:
1 - What do the strategic resources do? (there is no tooltip as I expected there to be)
2 - What is "fractured government" and why does it occasionally pop up and lower my NU?
3 - Since HQs can't fight anymore why is there one in Berlin with an engineer and AC integrated into it?
4 - Will V weapon missions still register as a lost air battle?
5 - Did you guys realize that Germany now begins the '36 game with enough units to fire the Rhineland Reoccupation from day one? WAD?

I like the new map, the smooth zoom, and features of gameplay.
I don't like the fact the game crashes when I push the theater tab.

And to Sarayakat, I can answer only 1 question. Strategic resources can be found in production screen. There you can point and get tooltip on what they do.
The other questions I have no idea myself. I hope someone have!

why hq cant fight any more

1000 men support units can't fight alone. HQs aren't front units and never were supposed to be able to fight.

If there are other subunits attached to a HQ just remove them and attach them to a combat unit instead.

Like I am sure is the case with most people on here, I’ve been following the development diaries and salivating at the prospects.

Experience on down load day:

When you hover over the country list in the Diplomatic or Intelligence screens you get constant clicking on the sound effects. As you move down the list it sounds like a rapid and dire attempt at Morse code. I am in no way suggesting that this is a show stopper and I can definitely live with it, but it is seriously annoying. (Mentioned in the tech forums. Forgive me if I’m being anal, but you asked us to report what we see)!

I am experiencing the scroll/unit flickering effect reported by others. This is something of a show stopper in my opinion, as it’s making my eyes bleed. Still present despite trying the actions suggested by posters, (also reported, added to thread started by SAS).

Like others have said, It would have been nice to have had even a small User Guide enclosed. This was present for Semper Fi and I found it extremely useful.

Overall a bit underwhelmed and disappointed to be honest. I accept there are usually bugs and teething problems, and am sure Paradox will respond and address them quickly as they always do. Nonetheless I still have the feeling that some of the aspects of this release appear very last minute and rushed and that as a result it is slightly less polished as a result.

Before I get flamed for ‘Paradox Heresy’ I would point out that I accept there are always errors on release of any game or enhancement and these are not limited to Paradox. I also acknowledge Paradox’s proven record of supporting their games or correcting issues very quickly. That is why I have kept the faith. The thread title asks for first impressions. These I have given, along with what I hope is constructive criticism. I eagerly await the no doubt imminent hotfix/patch that will prove my faith was not misplaced.
