no i think that you should go and move south and south only
new divisions deploy there
then you will have unique opportunity to encircle enormous bulk of axi force
and that should help you out with that damn allied advance

I say go south and encircle the german army in the north.
That would make sense, if I wanted to be at Berlin in -43 or -44. But as I have said many times, this isn't a gameplay AAR. My objective isn't to reach Berlin as fast as possible. The idea is to play this AAR close to historical, like it really happened. And I don't remember the Soviets encircling the whole German army by taking Poland. Oh, and I wouldn't be too worried about the Allies, they won't be getting past those Axis fortified mountain lines too easily.
The AI isn't too smart in HoI, so maybe I'll transfer some Axis divisions from the north to their weak Southern Front. Because surely IRL they wouldn't leave their whole army in some remote forests and swamps. But after I reach Berlin in -45, I'll start my Soviet Gameplay AAR, so then your advices are very welcome. :)

Stalin: You're a genious Molotov!

Molotov: Thank...

Stalin: How did you become a minister?

This had me laughing for ages. Nice update again, Storm.
Thanks, the next update will be on weekend. :)

when soviets did encircle german army in north but later (medium '44) and on a smaller scale
besides there is still some provinces on the way to poland so you could simply march forward

I don't command the Allies, so that's the AI's fault. :p

Are you referring to the Courland Pocket? I will probably do that in -44. :)

besides there is still some provinces on the way to poland so you could simply march forward
350pxeasternfront194308ll0.png

I'm going to advance according to this. The pic is a bit small, but yellow is -43, red early -44, violet mid -44 and green late -44. As you can see, Poland isn't in the yellow zone. But there are problems like, I won't be able to lift the Leningrad siege in January -44, because the Germans are so good at defending during winter now. On the other hand, I will take Crimea a few months early.

The question will rather be will he be able to crush Army Group Centre, because he can't that whole plan is worthless.

Those are pretty decent plans I'd say, and great achievements! It's always interesting to see the Germans fighting on strongly in this mod, even after major defeats and losses.

Poor Stalin though, not being invited by Molotov and such. We all know how much dictators tend to love their drinking parties right? ;)

Are you going to prioritise North(topple Germany first) or South(take Ploesti oilfields)?
Neither actually. The Red Army advances quite steadily on all fronts, but maybe just a little more on the Southen Front, because the resistance is weaker there. Both Romania and Bulgaria and maybe even Hungary will be liberated in -44, as the oilfields too. Like on that map. :)

The question will rather be will he be able to crush Army Group Centre, because he can't that whole plan is worthless.
Now that have crossed the Dnieper and have Vyshgorod, Army Group Center should pose no real threat to the Soviet advance. If the Germans make a stand somewhere (like Konotop), the Red Army will keep the Axis troops tied in the battle and advance around the province and then envelop the Germans.

kulik and budennij means trouble for da germans
i agree with chuilkov: too much encirclements
Maybe advancing could be easier, if Kulik and Bjudenni could just win their first battle, like Zhukov and Konev have won tens of battles. The German armor is still a respectable foe, that is very good at making encirclements. On one occasion 6 divisions of German tanks attacked my 12 elite infantry divisions. I needed to have 30 divisions (5:1) ratio, so I could stop their offensive. Their tanks are very tough defenders too.

Those are pretty decent plans I'd say, and great achievements! It's always interesting to see the Germans fighting on strongly in this mod, even after major defeats and losses.
Thanks! :D Pushing the Germans might look easy on the screenshots, but in reality it isn't that. I always have air support and lots of well organized divisions and reserve troops available. The offensives must be prepared well, in order to defeat the well organized, dug in Germans (especially their panzers).
This mod isn't perfect though, like the Japanese don't have locked garrisons at Tokyo, so just one US divisions captures the Japanese capital. I posted some of this stuff to the WIF mod thread, so hopefully there will be an improved version someday.

Poor Stalin though, not being invited by Molotov and such. We all know how much dictators tend to love their drinking parties right? ;)
Yeah, I guess that Stalin isn't very liked by his subjects. :D

Probably because they didn't invite him to their parties, I'm sure of it!

And as Deus Eversor sort of said this might well be the actual reason there was a purge to begin with. Who knows, deep down he might just've been your typical nice and friendly psychopath with a drinking problem.

But I think we should stay a bit more on topic: UPDATE! ;)

Yeah, probably most Soviets in this AAR don't like Stalin much because of his purges. And maybe because he just doesn't listen to other people like Molotov. :D
If Stalin would try to start a new purge, then most of the army would be against him, because they have seen generals like Zhukov, Konev, Chuikov and others, act heroicly heavy fighting.
But now it's time for an update... :)

Stalin's top secret planning room, September 1943...

churchillbunker1od7.jpg

Stalin: We haven't made much progress in the north after Kulik and Bjudenni's failed offensive.

Molotov: The marshes and...

Stalin: I will listen to no excuses! Why can't they be like Zhukov and Konev.

Molotov: The...

Stalin: The only person on the Northern front, who can do something is that caveman Chuikov!

screensave2nl2.png

Chuikov: Komrades, we have metal monsters and metal flying machines, we can't fail!

Soviet Soldier #52: 'Urraa, let's do this komrades!

screensave4vo1.png

German General #53: Our divisionz are zaking heavy losses. We need fighters zo ztop ze bombers! :(

Von Runsfeld: Ja, we need fighters! Where ist zhat fat Göring, when zu need him!

71001185dh2.gif

Manstein: Time zo push zhose Sovietz back to the other side of ze river! :)

Konev: And this is how we win... Launch a flanking attack!

Manstein: Nein, mein tanks can't be at two places at once! :(

screensave3ls9.png

Hungarian General #74: Yesterday at the officer bar Manstein thought he was so big, when he told me that he was going to push back the Soviets.

Hungarian Soldier #85: Those Germans think they're the only ones fighting here.

Hungarian General #74: Let's show them, what Hungarians are made of!

The offensive was soon halted.

screensave6vg6.png

Chuikov: Those Germans are too powerful winter defenders now... we have to stop the attack. :(

Soviet Soldiers: :(

screensave8xw2.png

Konev: Manstein's troops captured Kherson, but they're going down!

Manstein: How iz it possible, zhat zheir tanks attack with 218%?!

32330993cu2.gif

Zhukov: Because of ME! :p

Manstein: NEIN! Zhey have made Zhukov a minister, we will surely lose ze whole krieg now! :(

Zhukov: But Voroshilov still gives me some good advice. So he still gets some vodka as payment. :)

screensave10jp1.png

Manstein: Zhis izn't over! Von Book, whoever you are, revenge my loss!

Von Book: Vörwards! Destroy zhem!

30 additional Soviet divisions managed to stop the attack.

Molotov's Mansion...

screensave12gc2.png

Molotov: Ok, time for some foreing diplomacy. :)

Everyone: Booring! :eek:o

Molotov: Right... the Allies are starting something big.

Stalin: They say, they'll start a second front, but there already is one.

Zhukov: We better make it to Berlin before them.

screensave0ry0.png

Molotov: Look at this.

Stalin: Most South Americans hate Hitler.

Molotov: Columbia is about to join too.

Back at the Southern Front...

Zhukov: Molotov's meeting was so boring. I want to capture another province!

Konev: We don't do many winter offensives anymore because it takes so much manpower. The only place where we can attack is Crimea.

Molotov: That's true, we just disbanded the Moskva garrisons too. The only ones left are at Leningrad.

screensave13vv9.png

Zhukov: You Germans are going down!

Von Kleist: Nein, zhey have newer tanks than us? How could zhat be? :(

The newer Soviet tanks win the day...

screensave14si6.png

Konev: Good, Von Leeb is next.

Von Leeb: I don't want to fight, we surrender! :(

423up0.jpg

'Urraa, it was estimated that the Soviets captured over 10 divisions, most of them panzer divisions!

Nice work there, making Zhukov a minister and recapturing the Crimea. So, the only good Axis troops are Hungarian? I never would've guessed. I noticed you took the SS 'Das Reich' division there. Lastly, do you think you will achieve your goals this year or fail miserably when the allies beat you there?

Edit: could you give us a map of the whole eastern front please?

Thanks! :) When I noticed that I had low manpower and extra IC, I decided to swap the Voroshilov's -15% supply consumpion to Zhukov's offensive and construction bonuses.

So, the only good Axis troops are Hungarian? I never would've guessed. I noticed you took the SS 'Das Reich' division there.
The Hungarians are a bit easier to beat and they have no panzer divisons, so I like them more. :p ...Oh, and it looks like that SS division got trapped in Crimea.

Lastly, do you think you will achieve your goals this year or fail miserably when the allies beat you there?

screensave0fk4.png

The yellow line is where everyone should on April, 1944. The blue line is where everyone should be on January 1, 1945. There might be some slight errors though.
The Red Army has a lot of work to do and they have to be faster than the Allies. I think that capturing the rest of Ukraine isn't too hard. But the mountainous Balkans can be difficult. Also I must break the German lines in the north. The Germans have a lot of divisions that have had almost two years of time to dig in there. If I manage to break the north, then their Middle Front will collapse too.In the end, I think that I will be close to the blue line on January 1, 1945. :)

good :]
just perfect :D

but the allies are geating scary
Thanks! Luckily the Allies haven't landed in France yet. The Germans would probably only fight with about 5 divisons, so the Allies would be at Berlin in no time. :D

Yeah, Göring needs an XL-cockpit and a huge seat in his airplane. The engines have to be powerful too, or the plane won't fly.
