I like the idea of a China that ain't complete pushovers, but seriously aren't they a bit too OP?
They have 400+ divisions in 1941 including Communist China expeditionary forces with an IC of just 54. :ninja:

AI China get a lot of almost-free units when Japan attacks them (by way of the unified front decision). They cost like 0.01 IC each or something, though they still eat Supplies, manpower and time (but the first wave comes within 5 days).

By "a lot" I mean 3 runs of 5 HQ, 10 runs of 5 infantry and 14 runs of 5 militia. They also get automatic full reinforcement of all their land units. I've amended this to only give them 1 run of the HQs and the division reinforcement, unless JAP is not AI.

Tell me about, its insane.. I surrounded and destroyed.. 100 - 200 divisions over the first years and China still got 350+ divs to bring to the table.

Its even more insane when Jap AI decides to take on the US when getting pushed back.

My work around for getting a decent game against China as Japan is the following: 1) I edit all infantry/militia units of China--Nationalist, Communist, et al--to model 0 or 1. 2) I edit Chinese infantry tech to a max of 1020--which is 1897 infantry tech. 3) I give Japan 1939 infantry tech at the start. 4) I edit about half of Japan's infantry up to 1939 infantry at the start.

Doing these things still allows China a crazy numerical advantage but with Japan's 1939 infantry going against Chinamen with muskets and pitchforks, Japan is able to win many early battles quickly. Even so, once you push a certain distance into China and the front start to widened, it still is a challenge to make progress when every province you face has 25+ entrenched divisions--even if these division are 1897, 1907 type stone throwing riffraff.

I seems to me that the Chinese army of 1936 was in no way technologically in the same league as Japan's. It seems they must've been several generations behind. My fix results in a fun--and no where near easy--game against formidable China. It is a race to push quickly through so that China does not have time to research higher infantry techs. For if China even comes close to Japan in infantry tech, Japan is toast.

It's easy to make these mods if anyone wishes to try. Just make sure you copy any INC files into a backup folder before you edit them. One , or { out of place hoses up the works.

AI should get the buffs if Japan is player-controlled. Otherwise, they shouldn't get so much help, especially not early on, because the JAP AI won't be able to deal with it.
The AI is not able to handle benefits?

Japan played by the human player can deal with buffed China and even invade the USA (see makif's AAR). The AI cannot and is usually stalled in the north or defeated by the Chinese early on.

Agreed, I personally prefer the challenge. But it's depressing seeing the Chinese front halting at Beijing and never moving again under AI control.

Maybe there should be an event where China digs in, creating land forts representing the points where the Japanese were halted.

That actually sounds quite good, though you might want to give them a couple of modern "German" divisions. These divisions fought very well, but were used up in early days.

I'm fairly sure CCIP does a better job balancing the two sides than vanilla, although I have to agree ai Japan does a fairly bad job.

1800/1900 Infantry is not accurate at all. A maximum unit landcap is.

If anything, China's units should get better the more Japan invades, since most of their better equipment was stolen in fights from Japan.

"Japan played by the human player can deal with buffed China" Really?? I've tried numerous times with every strategy I Can think of and they all turn out the same. How do you make progress when you face 200-40 troop odds or worse? I am immensely impressed with those able to beat vanilla mode China as-is. I mean, we need you guys directing the troops in Afghanistan.

Reduce GDE heavily at first? Then slowly ramp it up with each year as long as they're at war with Japan?

That and really lower their infantry runs, China no question has the manpower, but can they handle all that training at once?

Training:
Here's a Gun.
You have morale from patriotism, occupation policies, and propaganda.
That was about it.

They didn't have the weapons.
