pff i needed to get that of my chest, but seriously, what the hell is wrong with france's balancing?

This is a current war in my ironman game as England
eu4_1.jpg

so france declared on me. at the time of the declaration everyone was at their force limit so:

on my side:
England: 63.000
Castile: 34.000
Portugal: 25.000
The Hansa: 13.000
total: 135.000

France: 58.000

so riddle me this, how the fuck is france single handedly beating the everlasting shit out of us? and why does he have 3 3-star generals? why does he win EVERY battle? and how is this still an issue more than 2 years after release?????!?!?!?!

EDIT: READ THIS BEFORE YOU COMMENT
Yes, i had the army slider at full
No, fance did not have better mil tech, we were all at mil tech 8
No, no these are not the generals france gets at the start of the game, this 1511 they are long dead
No, this is not the 100 years war (i lost that, on purpose, like player-england is supposed to)
Yes, i grouped up with my allies, this is not france doing 'divide and conquer' by beating us up individually
No, this is not me bitching about difficulty, i'm fine with having to work for my succes, but i don't want france to unrealistically be able to steamroll the combined might of europe's other major powers

AI is dumb. You can't just let your allies fight France alone, otherwise they'll get annihilated. You have to reinforce them when they get into fights. Besides, France fails enough already. I'd say it's as strong as it needs to be.

France is allready nerfed enough and doesn't even form a problem for the AI anymore to keep in check. Yes they will expand and yes they will beat the crap out of some alliances, which they are supposed to do... But they aren't the steamrolling uberblob they used to be. I'd say they are just fine and it shouldn't be impossible to keep them in check the way things are now...

If you would land your troops in Iberia and reinforce castilles armies there shouldn't be much of a problem I guess. Is France using it's forts to beat up Castille / Portugal, then mover up north to beat up you and the Hansa and then goes back south again? Because that sounds what they are doing, when stackpiling these numbers you should be able to win, especially with some kind of defence bonus like terrain or river crossing. You need to reinforce the AI instead of expecting it the other way arround, sometimes the AI supports you like intended, but often they find a siege more important and just let you die one province away from them :p

this is exactly what i did, i moved my troops to iberia and grouped up with my allies, but it didn't matter. even in a defensive battle, in the mountains, over a river, with double their troops. they still kicked our ass,
it doesn't matter, france has 3 3-star generals leading it's 3 stacks even when we defended in the mountians with 64 regiments, fance's 30 still kicked our as as they crossed the river. there was no logical reason why france would win, nor why they would have those generals to start with since they have only been in 2 wars in this campaign, where did they get the tradition to get them?

Paradox cannot dumb down the AI anytime a player has a challenge with it... Otherwise the AI would be broken...

"I can't win the 100 years war! Nerf France!"
"OMG! I'm playing with France and England is so Overpowered... Nerf England!"

"LOL! I'm loosing every single war. I'm Rev. France and I'm fighting all of Europe. Nerf Europe, please!".

France usually starts with great generals...

And, one question, do you have your military expenses slider at maximum, or at minimum?

also this is not really a complaint about it being "too difficult wah wah" this is about it being completely unrealistic and nonsensical that france has the ability to casually steamroll the combined might of the rest of Europe's superpowers at will

this is not about the 100 years war, i purposfully lost the 100 years war because winning was unlikely, and would be a waste of manpower and money. this is 1511 so the generals france starts with are long dead and completely irrelevant.
and yes... i know how the military sliders work... i have over 700 hours of playtime. the army slider is at max

If it's pretty early in the game it's only logical that they kick England of the continent, I guess those Generals are a way for Paradox to railroad the game a bit in a Historical direction where England get's banned to the islands. Which is something I'm personally fine with, I would hate a England that beats up France 50% of the games.

Also England sucks early game, because they always get beaten by France and Castille isn't much better. In the early game you can better take Aragon and Austria as allies, assuming Burgundy has rivalled you and isn't an option, otherwise I would also consider them if you don't have any plans to attack them yourself. Aragon with their PU over Naples seems to be stronger early game, especially if you have allied Austria so that Napels can actually move it's troops through the HRE to help.

i agree, england should not be able to win the 100 years war, but this is not the 100 years war, i lost that on purpose at the start of the game, and gave up my continental holdings (except Calais)
those generals are loooooong dead, and somehow france just spawn 3 more Sun Tzu's out of thin air. and yes england usually sucks early game, unless you turn it around, like i did, i have 63 forcelimit (more than france) i have 14,39 income per month (more than france) and much much much better allies. but somehow france doesn't ever loose a battle,

i don't mind difficulty, i do mind playing against someone using a loaded dice

If anything France is too timid in this latest version.

Yeah... I'd argue that France is unusually weak and that they should get a buff, not a nerf.

what is your basis for france needing to be the steamroller of europe? it's completely unrealistic, the big blue blob represented in EU4 is not how france was in real life for the majority of the time period, it feels like paradox is trying to portray france as it was at the height of Napoleonic power through out the entire game, but that isn't how medieval/early renaissance france was

I didn't know it was more mid-game, because the screenshot you posted doesn't show on my screen. So naturally I assumed it was somebody getting his ass kicked early game when France wants Englands continental holdings... Stil France is supposed to be the most powerfull nation in western Europe at this time. It's a challenge that might take more wars, your allies might also be your weak point here actually, as England you can use the same strategy as Denmark, put your navy in a harbor, let Frence transport a stack between 10/20 units to your island, block of the straight and destroy the French stack with your supperior troops and then repeat :p

Only downside is that it's probably Calais they're after, so they'll be getting a ticking warscore and with so many mainland allies, they will probably get a high warscore just by kicking their asses...

Only downside is that it's probably Calais they're after, so they'll be getting a ticking warscore and with so many mainland allies, they will probably get a high warscore just by kicking their asses...

they are after Picardie, i took most of burgundy's lowlands holdings. so yes they are getting ticking warscore, and are now carpet sieging Iberia, and unfortunately Ai France almost never try to put troops on the actual British isles so that wouldn't work
