This is seriously one of the best changes of the new patch. It seems totally obvious that this was entirely WAD, but nice to see the logic of it spelled out nonetheless...

This logic is wrong. Upgrade costs 50 MP, while coring and diplo-annexing is at most 10. Since AI will now develop land, there is more not less pressure to grab as much land as possible. So I would still try to conquer as much a spossible, but now I will be sitting on overextension and lack technology more. I am really puzzled by some of the forum responses. The fact that you make one thing costly doesn't mean that you would do another. It's just a deterioration of utility.

I don't know what to say, I'm just very disappointed in the direction of this game right now. The current development of the game seems to go very much against the style of play I enjoy. This is just my opinion

I understand where you're coming from Wiz, but 40% does seem a little excessive, over the course of a game that's thousands and thousands more ADM points spent. What made you change the claims bonus to -10%? Why couldn't it stay at 25%?
Its not 40%, though, is it? It might get close to that if you have all available bonuses and assuming 1 base tax=2 development, but both of those assumptions are highly unlikely. Realistic scenarios are more like 100-150% increase. Even more brutal for vassal annexation. That's some beer level math right there.

What's the style of play you enjoy? Do elaborate, otherwise you're just saying "I don't like it" without explaining why you don't like it. How would that add to any discussion, let alone make Paradox change their minds?

I think we could use a policy, that reduces coring cost. E.g. Offensive Ideas + Administrative Ideas -> Harsh Integration Act (or whatever) -> -15% Coring Cost. While taking 1 mil point per month.

I will go ahead and say that playing as Ming last night it was painful to core my conquest of Dai Viet (an objective I was encouraged to pursue by a mission). Dai Viet, like most of Asia, is pretty under developed and it basically came down to the choice of: would you rather spend 800 admin points to boost your admin level? Or would you rather spend most of those points to not have a shit load of over extension? I guess in retrospect it was an interesting decision to have to make.

Yeah I noticed that one earlier, really should give better rewards but it isn't really due development but that Dai Viet has a hostile coring cost of 100%.

I mean is this game called Europa universalis or maybe Africa or Asia universalis?

One of the many excellent changes brought with this patch are those affecting ROTW. I mean realistically not single one of those countries could resist great white race, so we can now say that this game is almost there, not quite yet, but very close in making it completely historical. Doomed are the savages from ROTW.

Here are just few very helpful changes for ROTW nations.

1. First idea slot on admin tech 5, but same technology cost.

2. Same technology costs coupled with increased coring and diplo annex cost.

3. Reduced development in ROTW.

Go Aztecs. :D

As Milan, I was able to unify most of Italy (more than twice starting development of France) in under a century without any core cost reduction, and could easily have done so faster. Growth is slower but it's certainly not 'blobbing now pointless'.

Out of curiosity, prior to releasing the patch and DLC, did any of the developers successfully achieve world domination? Or even check to see if it was still possible?

I've always assumed that none of the devs have ever actually done a world conquest.

They didn't before releasing the game (the day DDRJake completed the Three Mountains, they had been arguing if it was possible or not), so I don't think?

Well i think that all this confusion is because there are still some achievements. Just remove all achievements and you will eliminate all complaints.

Achievements tend to create false impression that this is game based on expansion.

Simple as that.

If anything, the coring cost is too low. On average, it costs me 55ish ADM to raise the development in a province by one. For 55ish ADM, I can core a province with 5 development and still have 5 ADM spare. The returns to playing wide are *five times* larger than the returns to playing tall. The only development button I'll ever click is the manpower one, the others seem entirely pointless.

Coring is far more costly now, which I guess I can get used to. The thing that seem absurd is the hostile core creation cost ideas.

A +50% means that unless the provinces are low development, then they are totally ruinous to take. Especially when this idea is within the NIs and even traditions of countries. I'm just thankful more countries don't take aristocratic. Whilst you could say 'helps small countries survive', what happens when one such country gets big? It just becomes an obstacle to everyone due to some game mechanic which is rather OP for bigger nations.

Perhaps Hostile core creation could scale by size of country? That way it is useful for smaller nations who need it, but larger nations (for whom it just ruins balance) don't get as much out of it, but still a bit.

You do understand that you then have to deal with LA, probably a revolt or too, most likely an unaccepted culture penalty and possibly have to convert the thing? + The fact that you have to win wars to get it, take AE, warexhaustion, and money hits.

Your thought here is way too simplistic.

Coring shouldn't be immediately necessary. It seems expensive because it's something we currently need to do within a few years or risk hitting the imaginary roadblock of 100% OE, but really the process of fully integrating a province or realm should be (initially) expensive and time-consuming.

I couldn't agree more. And it should work a bit like autonomy in that it decreases over time. You take a province and it is 100% core cost. Then it ticks down per month, and heck, you could even have events that fire that increase or decrease it. After some long-ass time, this worthless land is cored cheaply and becomes a productive member of your society.
