I installed v1.08 yesterday and immediately saw that a lot of the shields and flags are changed...

So I have several questions about the changes.....


Eire:
-Shield: Blue with yellow Harp
-Flag: Green with yellow Harp

Why did the color of the shield changed from Green to Blue ??


Scotland:
-Shield: Blue/Red with white cross
-Flag: Blue with white cross (I think, I'm not sure and can't check it...)

Why does the flag now includes Red ???


Is this historically correct or did it change for some other reason.... ???


There are a lot more changes but I haven't had the time (yet) to check them all.... (and all the bmp's were overwritten during the 1.08 install...)

The shield is based on the coat of arms of Eire, hence the blue color.

Scotland:
-Shield: Blue/Red with white cross

1388: the Standard of the Earl of Douglas used a St. Andrews cross and a lion
1503: the first certain use of a plain St. Andrew's Cross flag - but the field was red, not blue (the Vienna Book of Hours).

Nope, it's not a Croatian flag, look at the pattern... There was a dicussion about this over at the GUFSM thread some time ago. We agreed on using the above flag for Brabant since the Palatinate flag looks almost the same and according to MKJ that is the flag of Brabant.

I'm also curious about the red lion as a shield for Austria - I'd have gone with the red-white-red shield if you wanted something different from the eagle-on-yellow flag.

That's the coat of arms of the Habsburgs.

Actually I've just found an old Habsburg eagle and on its breast is a shield divided in three - red lion on yellow/red-white-red/lorraine ...

It's not that old actually, it dates from around 1790
