Aye, Drake has well-learned the lesson that sometimes the worst thing one can do is nothing. He's in a pickle now, though. Nicely done, Draco, but you might want to reread the last bit. A few typos in there.

Excellent update; and I feel that it was precisely the attack that provoked the alerted motorized infantry to moving in their direction. Though I don't doubt the quality of Royal Artillery units, having 6-1 disadvantage with the enemy having mobile units isn't going to be pretty.

Well done, Draco.

“As soon as Trev gets me tae mae feet, Colonel,” the Scotsman grunted, “I’ll bloody well run!”

Exactly what is tae mae feet? I mean, it sounds like shoes...

it's an accent. 'tae mae' is 'to my'

that said, i've never seen 'tae' for 'to' before, myself.

As a German who has utterly lost the ability to speak his own accent ( thank you school system ) I don't claim I can actually say where an accent is coming from any more than "Scotland/England/whever", but I pride myself in being able to understand them if not spoken too fast. :D

Well, I finally caught up.

And must add that I hate cliffhangers.

Allenby can tell a lot about that, by my throat! :D

Thank the gods you don't live in my country, where 'tae' is the thing you step on if you forget to let the dog out during the night or if someone was irresponsible enough to let their pet do their thing on the sidewalk. 'Landmines' some of us call them.

During my PhD I meet an Scot and a Londoner. They day when both decided, for fun, to use their dialects was the day I knew I had no fuggiest idea of English. And it was also the day when I discovered the psychokiller in me...

Mwhahahahaha!

Hope everybody is still waiting for the next update :))) and anybody who wasn't caught up was able to do so while I dealt with the crap of RL.

That being said, I will have the next update ready by midweek (I'm currently out of town and won't be back until Monday evening), and then we'll have a slight change of venue for the story and a slightly quicker posting rate (hopefully RL will stay the heck out of the way).

I'll respond to your replies on Tuesday (what better to do when at work, right?) and then the update and then... our change of venue. (Teased yet? ;))

Stay tuned!

Yes, Tokyo is very content with the Empire's efforts in now Eastern Europe... where things are still quite exciting for some time to come. ;)

Time for some feedback to feedback! :)

Lord E - Whaddya mean you don't like cliff-hangers?? As for Gniewkowo being a village to far... we shall see...

Vann the Red - A pickle would/could be an understatment. Damn typos!

Ciryandor - I would have to agree with you on the Paras taking of the 88s gained the attention of the German mech. inf. But the alternative, i.e. leaving the 88s to fire upon the the Paras attacking Toruń, was unacceptable from a larger perspective. Not that it really matters to the Paras in Gniewkowo, eh?

Nathan Madien - Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one who sometimes has a problem understanding a Scotsman's brogue! ;)

Chargone - Really? I picked up on some of my readings and, of course, stole it shamelessly for my own writing.

Derek Pullem - :D You, of course, are not referring to Aberdeen, Maryland are ye?

trekaddict - Ah, the curse of societies that think having an accent is a sign of lower intelligence, I know it well. I myself in years past owned, so I was informed by the young ladies I courted, the wonderful gentil accent of a Southern gentleman (southern as in Southeast United States). Now, thanks to my schooling I have a hard time using it... damn school. :eek:o

Incognitia - Now, now, it is a well known fact that descriptive terms differ depending on the speaker's rank within the Army. :p But of the terms, I'm thinking most troops would prefer to call artillerymen 'over-compensators' than the alternative!

Kurt_Steiner - Glad you were able to catch up. Cliff-hangers do a reader good... at least if they are done well enough to actually keep the reader's attention... which I hope this one did.

Bafflegab - Well, Tyler always had a few redeeming qualities... the problem was that they had not thus far compensated for his shortcomings. We shall see if the coming battle raises or lowers the bar for him. Glad I was able to satisfy the angry mob... at least for a short time.

Ciryandor (2) - And where pray tell is that? 'Landmines' I understand, but 'tae'? That's confusing.

Kurt_Steiner (2) - I know that would surely drive me to drink and English is my native language! :D

**

Okay, now, hold on to your hats (or what have you) for the update shall be posted within the next 30hrs. (simply must give myself some play room with the time frame if RL decides to be a real bitch, eh?) :D

Accents can also be amusing, especially when someone is trying to fake it.

Now, I live in the Southeast United States - specifically South Florida. We don't have that accent here of which you speak. It mainly hangs out in Georgia, Tennessee, and other deeply Southern states near them.

It's weird. For a Southern state, Florida doesn't feel southern.

On the ground, it really doesn't matter. Though it's not going to be an OTL Arnhem, scenes from Market Garden keep on flashing in my mind; it's going to get really bloody and confusing.

*points to avatar* The Philippines. "Tae" in our native language = sh*t! So instead of saying "Sh*t!"/"You piece of sh*t!", we say "TAE!"/"TAE NAMO!"

Oh god, have I brought down the censors' wrath upon me?!

Nathan Madien - That's 'cause Florida is the Melting Pot of the U.S.! EVERYBODY goes to Florida! :D

Ciryandor - Ah, it's all clear to me now. And don't worry 'bout no censors... the words were used in strictly an educational sense and therefore its quite alright. :p

Okay, I have to apologize. I thought I was gonig to have the end of the battle posted today... but then when I reviewed it the damn post was so freaking long I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get it all posted. Soooo, I had to break it in half. That being said, the first half will be up in the next couple of minutes and then rest near the end of the week...
