For England and For St. George ~
A Rise of Violence AAR

IntroScreen.jpg

Prologue:

Come 1936 the fortunes of the Kingdom of England stands with its dominant position in the British Isles under threat. Not since the landing of the Spanish Armada in the south had England faced such a threat. Unlike the other powerful monarchy's in Europe, England had not managed to acquire a large overseas empire. The early neutralising of England's burgeoning power in the days of Queen Elizabeth had cemented England's place as a Europe central power turning inwards and outside of the campaigns of the Wellesley brothers in India securing England's hold over the sub-continent England had turn to concentrating totally upon creating in the home isles an industrial power base that by 1936 has managed to climb to be one of the strongest in Europe.

With the accession of the ambitious young King Edward VIII the year before England is finally breaking its self imposed isolation. With the insinuation of the communist menace leaking across the borders of the Soviet Union into Europe proper. With a civil war in France breaking out and splitting the country in twain and many states in the east of Europe under threat from the red menace. Edward and his chosen Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin shall have to try and keep the reins on the people of England tight, to try and stop the Red Menace, but first to carve out England's deserved place, as the strongest of the monarchy's and as the longest unconquered country in the world.

This is a time of opportunity for England, with China and Japan warring in the east and Germany weakened after the Great War and now with the monarchy deposed and this man, this Hitler taking the rightful place of the Hohenzollern family it seemed that all of the world is falling into ruin and chaos.

This AAR is based on The Rise of Violence, a MOD I have had knocking about on my computer for a while. I have changed the starting date and England set up to fit with the story I wanted to tell and hopefully this might actually garner some interest. It will be a mixture of gameplay and storybook dependent on where in the story I am up to and I have been toying with the idea of having input from any readAARs I may pick up in regards to the targets and goals of the Kingdom of England.

Nice Mod indeed. I think for an england AAR to let the readers create the objectives, we first need some input on major nations. What is changed from basic HOI 2?

Which nations are fighting each other in France?

What are your goals
1. Violent Empire England conquering large parts of the world or
2. Violent Democratic England, recreating the perfect democratic world?

If I may do some suggestions,

Liberate as many nations as possible on ethnic lines, this means dividing the Soviet Union in a final showdown I think, but first start uniting British Isles if possible. No alliances is nice, no burden, but puppet nations and stay the strongest...or create powerblocs on every continent 2-3

Chapter 1; The Roar of the Lion:

Whitehall, January 1 1936:

Looking down the long table at the men gathered before him Edward had a distinct feeling of pique, he was the youngest at the table by around two decades, this cabinet was the cabinet of his father not him and he remained unsure as to whether they would accept his vision of how England would expand in the future. Edward had read much during his degree study while reading history at Oxford, and what he had read the most about was how England had missed chances time and again to become great. First there was the debacle with the Spanish Armada and the crippling of the English navy that ensued leading to the loss of the race to colonise North America. Then came the revolt and independence of the colonies that England was able to attain despite this set back and the revolt of the territories that now called themselves Canada.

Perhaps what had to be the greatest insult of all was the results of the Great War, despite the victory of the entente over the central powers the Kingdom of England was denied the right to annex its troublesome northern neighbour in Scotland and instead the only land lost by Scotland was in the creation of an Irish state encompassing Ireland outside of Ulster. England had entered the Great War expecting to take its place at the forefront of the world but instead they had been forced to take back their place as a second rate power the only bright spot in their history being the capture of India due to the brilliance of the Wellesley Brothers.

Cabinet.jpg

Shaking himself from his fugue he looked down the table to his Minister of Armaments and Technology Oswald Mosley, he alone among the men sat at the table had served in the cabinet for less time than Edward had sat the throne and Mosley with his followers in Parliament were becoming known as the followers of the far-right and nick named theMaximists. A favourite of Edward and his policies were to his taste, he inclined his head for Oswald to start with his briefing. Shuffling his papers and coughing to clear his throat he glanced down at his papers before beginning.

ProductionScreen.jpg

"Your Highness, Gentlemen....let me begin by telling you all that the industry and economy is in great health. However there are several points which I have found necessary to address, firstly, the armed forces, frankly your highness, ministers of the cabinet, are totally outdated, in fact we would be well advised to spend much of the budget on modernisation. To this end I have dispatched orders for this to take place and it is awaiting but your approval."

TechScreen.jpg

Edward nodded along with Mosley's words while the old hands such as Baldwin and Sir John Simon looked totally discomforted. Looking down at the table they kept their peace for now but Edward sensed that they would only be pushed so far before they tried to exercise the rights that Cromwell and his cronies had managed to eke out of his predecessor. Frowning in concentration he merely nodded to the men and Simon James began his brief on both foreign and homeland intelligence detailing the political situation of the time as he saw it.

This looks a cool mod. I'd also like to see a brief overview around the world to see what its like (perhaps pics of each continent and an explanation).

I'm hoping you don't go off and annex you ''troublesome neighbor''

keep your conquering for the French.

Ok I will try and give a lowdown of the major alliances and power blocks as well as countries:

Europe:

Iberian Union ~ The Iberian Union is the result of the endurance of the Iberian Union into the present day, though riven with tensions in Portugal for many of its early years the conflicts between France and England as well as Prussia and France allowed these periods of turmoil to be overcome. The Iberian Union controls the whole of South America outside of the island of Trinidad (which is English) and is in alliance with Royalist France (Dark Blue in France) and the Swedish Empire.

Royalist France ~ With the defeat of the forces of the revolution at the Bastille and the subsequent pacification of the rest of the country with Iberian help the Bourbon Monarchs of France managed to retain their power but with the resentment among the serfs just building over the years the introduction of communist pamphlets by Lenin in his short exile in France proved to be the straw that broke the camels back. This revolution based around the southern city of Lyon quickly transformed into the French Union. With the Treaty of Versailles creating an uneasy ceasefire the Royalists look south with trepidation. Alliance with Iberia and Sweden.

French Union ~ One of the two major communist states in Western Europe the French Union was created via the spreading of communist ideals by an exiled Lenin and after many years of fighting has managed to create an uneasy peace with the royalists surrounding it. The Union is not without allies however with the Dutch Republic, People's Republic of Turkey and Israel their power base while not as strong as the monarchists has the people on their sides and the brooding Soviet Union may well be persuaded to take their side in the future.

Dutch Republic ~ The lowlands had long been a hotbed of liberal thought in Europe and with the advent of communism it is no surprise that the people here embraced it quickly. Unlike in France however the Statsholder of the Dutch Republic was quick to adapt and with large concessions to the people has managed to hand on to much of her power as the Premier of the Dutch Republic, is in alliance with People's Republic of Turkey, French Union and Israel.

Deutsches Reich ~ The Kingdom of Germany in alliance with the the English stood against the red hordes following the October Revolution in Russia. Though the English enjoyed victories in Scotland and they were able to take out the communist revolutionaries there in the early war the Kingdom of Germany was crushed with Berlin falling and the royal family executed it took the charismatic leadership of one Adolf Hitler to reunite the Reich and drive the communists out of German land. With the signing of peace at Konigsberg in 1922 the Soviets agreed to stay at the border currently held and advance no further. (Free of all alliances)

Kingdom of Italy ~ United as OTL Italy has been largely neutral along with the rest of Europe fighting the surge of the red tide with a people's revolt centring around Naples the Kingdom retains its place in the second rank of world powers.

Swedish Empire ~ With its taking of Norway off Denmark in the 30 years war and the absorption of the Danes into the Reich upon its unification the Swedish Empire stands strong in the North, having retained neutrality in the Great War and aided the French during the civil war it remains friends with the Royalists in France and the Iberians.

Austria-Hungary and the Balkans ~ As usual is a patchwork of several states, with Austria-Hungary retaining a union but the other ethnicities managing to acquire independence following a protracted Serbia-Austria war from 1914-19 Austria remains the strongest among the successor states but is just a shadow of its former self though it retains its claims on its former lands and has of recent started to stir from the depression the fragmentation of its empire caused.

USSR ~ The Soviet Union formed with the October revolution much as OTL but with one significant difference. Their was a centre of Soviet Revolution in Siberia as well as in the region of European Russia, this meant that along with the non-existence of Poland and thus a large portion of the 'white' forces were missing the country turned read much quicker and without Siberia to flee to the White Generals fled West and South into Germany and the Ottoman Empire where the new Red Army pursued starting a 3 year war with the Germans culminating with the peace of Konigsberg and the total overrunning of the Ottoman Empire leading to the current fractured state.

The Soviet Union is more powerful in politics and arms in 1936 than they were OTL and while being officially neutral they have open diplomatic content with all socialist nations world wide.

America:

Nationalist Canada ~ Nationalist Canada are what were the majority of English and Scottish colonies in the New World. Forcing their way into independence in 1863 it has NAPs with both the Confederate States and the USA.

CSA ~ The Confederate States are the conglomeration of what were the Louisiana colonies of France with some English settlement, having been in a constant state of low boil with all of its neighbours particularly the Mexicans to the south.

USA ~ Made up of those states that refused to join Canada in the great revolution and wished to remain apart from their right wing ideals the USA makes up most of the OTL midwest and is ranked behind most of the rest of America yet has NAPs with every country in the New World.

Mexico ~ Having managed to split with the Iberian Union during the French Revolution Mexico controls the largest continuous piece of land in North America. However its southern provinces have recently broken away into the small central American states and the constant threat of the USA and CSA prevents the retaking of these lands by the Mexicans.

South America ~ Under the Iberian Union in totality.

Texas and California :~ Both of these states came into being due to migration from the colonies on what was then Mexico's northern border. It got to the point as in OTL that they both attempted to secede and join the new nations to their north but due to Mexico's greater strength in this timeline they only managed to attain partial independence and as such both states are puppets of Mexico.

Africa:

Africa is split between many different nations, the biggest winner in African colonisation was the Dutch with their former colonies of Sund Afrika, Orange and Transvaal currently independent and the Congo and still holding the Congo.

With the civil war in France their large Pan African colonies grew vocal in their calls for independence so rather than lose all influence in the region released the United African Republic as a state centred around the Pan-African railway.

In the north with the fall of the Ottoman Empire into chaos with the Red invasion the nations of Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Israel were able to attain independence.

Asia:

China ~ though falling into the Warlord state of OTL the efforts of Sun Yat-Sen and his short lived successor Chiang Kai-Shek the whole of the country has been reunited under one banner again, however the war with Japan over Manchuria continues to this day, both countries pouring men and resources into the region to try and win a battle decisive enough to hold on to it.

Japan ~ As OTL except for Chinese advances in Manchuria have lead to limited independence being granted to Korea and at war with China at game start.

Rest of Asia ~ As OTL except for an independent Burma.

Arabic Peninsula ~ With the extremist and communist ideology leaking into the region after the Soviet advances into Anatolia and concurrent setting up of a communist state there the Shiekhs of Arabia have come together into a loose confederation to help retain their power and fend off any invaders.

Australia ~ Formed from the 4 former colonies of Australia owned respectively by England, Spain, France and the Netherlands, Australia is a young country newly emerged onto the world stage and unaligned as of present.

Indochina ~ With the much reduced colonisation of TTL along with a stronger China the independent states in Indochina eventually fell victim to Vietnamese expansionism creating Indochina.

Malaysia ~ Is an independent country along the lines of OTL Siam which is trying to retain independence in the face of Chinese expansionism and European colonialism.

Ah yes I totally forgot to include them in the Americas sorry I will put them here and in the summary for America:

Chapter 1; The Roar of the Lion:

Buckingham Palace, January 8 1936:

Irritable, that had to be the word for what Edward was feeling right now, it had been at least a week since he had asked his Head of Intelligence to prepare a dossier on the Scots, he had expected it to take around 24 hours maybe two or three days but instead it had been a full week. Turning on his heel sharply as he heard the door open and looked as the small beetle like man scurried in. Gesturing with his right arm towards the desk at one end of the room bringing his armband into view, proudly displaying the symbol that Mosley and his followers had adopted recently, a lighting bolt in a blue circle surrounded by a plain of red. Striding to the imposing chair behind the desk his heels clicking on the wood panelled floor as he strides briskly and sits, lacing his fingers and resting his head upon his hands.

"So, Mister James.....as my Minister of Intelligence I was expecting a dossier on the Scots on my desk...6 days ago now, so tell me what took you so long, are your agents out of contact of something??"

James looked thoroughly discomforted at this pulled a folder from his briefcase and brought forth some sheets of paper. Placing them on the table so that the King could read them he quickly averts his gaze back to the floor, awaiting the inevitable explosion that would follow. Edward picking up the paper sifts through them quickly his expression becoming more and more confused at what he read. Putting the papers down carefully and straightening them exactly he sighs slightly.

HoI22010-01-2800-58-11-45.jpg

"So, what this report tells me is exactly....nothing....you put the estimate that these reports as being accurate as being 45%?? What nation in this world has NO military at all?!? Did it not occur to you that that 55% chance of the report being wrong should be much closer to 100%? Why my Father placed his faith in you I will never know.... well you can at least bring me up to date on our own military can you not?"

Looking slightly more confident at this, second request, James pulls out a second sheath of papers, placing one copy on the desk before beginning, in a halting voice gradually becoming more confident as he listed the numbers.

HoI22010-01-2800-58-36-48.jpg

"Your highness, we have a total of 250,000 men under arms, with 130,000 of these stationed here in England and 120,000 in our holdings in India. In regards to the navy we maintain a total of 2 full size aircraft carriers along with 1 smaller escort carrier. To complement these we have 4 battleships which range from being 20 years old to around 10, though our navy is not the smallest the heritage of the armada still sticks with us to this day.....anyway on to the airforce. We have 3 wings of planes designed to intercept incoming enemy bombers and a total of 5 wings of bombing aircraft which we can call on if needed."

Edward nodded at this, pleased at last with something this man had done at his request. Tapping his finger on the top of the list of the active naval ships and looks up a smile forming on his slowly upturning lips.

"We will soon be out from under the shadow of the Armada, my dear Sid, as soon as my plans come to fruition."

Nice updates, thanks for the world overview you have modded this all by yourself? It looks great! I would suggest to fight the commies though, they are your biggest enemy. What events are there, is there some Portugal Independence event or, a Chinese Civil War?

Timmie:

The mod I am using is a mod made a while back it is on I think the 4th or 5th page of the mod pages for HoI2. As to events, I pushed the start date back by 11 years as the mod is designed to start in 1947, but I thought the techs owned by the nations made no sense for that period and much more sense for 1936 so I pushed it back to then. As to the history I have provided it isnt in fact exactly the history of the game, as England in the base mod is a socialist republic and as I have no idea how to change the faction heads is still the head of cominterm....anyhoo...the history I have created is centred around the Spanish Armada successfully defeating Drake and making a landing in the south and offloading troops before being ultimately stopped just south of London. This victory while not crippling to England ultimately lead to butterfly effects of Elizabeth seeing that her life could be so easily extinguished and getting married, carrying on her line further and skipping the Stuart monarchs totally, meaning a remaining independent Scotland.

In America, England late coming to the colonial game is pushed back even further and what is the CSA in game is essentially French before they even get there and the full extent of British colonies before their independence is Canada + the games USA.

In India things unfolded much as OTL but with a difference in the French Monarchy remaining strong and prefering to just prop up the neighbouring states or Burma and Afghanistan with money and arms rather than becomign involved on a war in the sub-conitent is the reason for a shrunken English India.

The Opium wars never happened in China due to reduced British naval power and it never achieving dominance over the waves as it did OTL. As such such things as the Taipei rebellion and the Warlords period were either dealth with quickly or averted and is a much stronger state than OTL but still politically fragile.

As to events I would have to look through eventfiles to see if they exist, but to my knowledge they do not but I will using the helpful author kit and loading up as other nations cause several 'events' to happen. Chinese civil war was one of the ones I was thinking about, along with a bit war in North America over suzerinity there and a few other things I dont want to reveal yet.

As things stand I am at I think the 11th of January in game, and I wont be advancing for I think another update maybe two, dependent on how long the next part turns out to be.

Xasan:

The Soviet Union formed with the October revolution much as OTL but with one significant difference.
