For those of you that want historically acurate Division numbers
Here is a list of US army Divisions by type and number...
Cavalry
1,2 (The 2 Cav was an all African American unit, the famed buffalo soldiers, that never saw combat. It was disbanded in North Africa and its men were used as replacements for other units.)
Armour
1-14,16,20
Infantry Divisions
Airborne Div
11,13,17,82,101
Light Infantry Div
71,89
Mountain Div
10
Motorized Div
4,6,7,8,90 (both the 6 and 7 Div were initially motorized but were changed to regular infantry and shipped to the Pacific.)
1-3, 5, 9, 24-38, 40-45, 63,66, 68-71, 75-89, 91-100, 102-104, Americal, Philippine Scouts (The Americal Division was formed in New Caledonia, hence American Caledonian, it was the only American Division raised over seas. The Philippine Scouts were formed and stationed, you guessed it, in the Philippines and its survivors surrendered the Japanese and it was never reconstituted.)
Note: Motorized is a misleading term. All American Divisions were motorized in the sense that Divisions often shared Corps or Army level transport assists to move great distances, or had organic level support available. The only exceptions to this were the Airborne units. They were at the mercy of whatever Army they were attached to for transport. And often times this was by rail.
US Marine Divisions
1-6
If there is enough interest I caould post at a later time the theaters each division operated in.
For those of you who plan on playing Germany you can go to www.feldgrau.com. They have a good list for German Divisions.
