For those of you that want historically acurate Division numbers

Here is a list of US army Divisions by type and number...
Cavalry
1,2 (The 2 Cav was an all African American unit, the famed buffalo soldiers, that never saw combat. It was disbanded in North Africa and its men were used as replacements for other units.)

Armour
1-14,16,20

Infantry Divisions

Airborne Div
11,13,17,82,101

Light Infantry Div
71,89

Mountain Div
10

Motorized Div
4,6,7,8,90 (both the 6 and 7 Div were initially motorized but were changed to regular infantry and shipped to the Pacific.)

1-3, 5, 9, 24-38, 40-45, 63,66, 68-71, 75-89, 91-100, 102-104, Americal, Philippine Scouts (The Americal Division was formed in New Caledonia, hence American Caledonian, it was the only American Division raised over seas. The Philippine Scouts were formed and stationed, you guessed it, in the Philippines and its survivors surrendered the Japanese and it was never reconstituted.)

Note: Motorized is a misleading term. All American Divisions were motorized in the sense that Divisions often shared Corps or Army level transport assists to move great distances, or had organic level support available. The only exceptions to this were the Airborne units. They were at the mercy of whatever Army they were attached to for transport. And often times this was by rail.

US Marine Divisions
1-6

If there is enough interest I caould post at a later time the theaters each division operated in.

For those of you who plan on playing Germany you can go to www.feldgrau.com. They have a good list for German Divisions.

nice work so...

but does it realy make sence naming the divisions by there real n ame? If i got more tanks than in reality which name should i choose?

By the way... is it possible to name a whole army stack? like invasion with 7th Army in Belgium or 9th Army stuck in Stalingrad?

I guess not....

from my understanding you can also name Corps in the game. You can name any division anything you want. If you want to name a division the first rabid weasel division you can. From what I have seen of screen shots there is a difference between say a tank division, a foot infantry division, and a motorized or mechanized one. Just what those exactly are I do not know.

I just made this list for the handful of nut cases like me who think it is vital to the game to have the correct number for my digital divisions. You can use the list, or not its up to you. :)

and i apriciate your work...

for my way of playing i would not name alle devisions (to much work for devisions dying to soon)

but whole corps would be cool. How can these be named? are they really stucked together? If i split them apart which part will get the name?

hmmm i dont see any way how this could work fine, or is it possible to give every devision a named corp in spite of where they are (stacked up or on holiday)...

nice screenie

i think of nothing else to say... the screeni proves it, or i dont understand the HOI concept after all...

I hope the Corps-names will be used in the messages... so i alway knew when i read "your 2nd Army was attacked in Stalingrad" ...that would be fine

Each scenario starts with some very well researched division and army names. But when new armies are created, and new units, they are given much more generic names. That's where the ability to re-name your units comes in handy.

Subs and Destroyers are in groups. Cruisers and above are individual ships.
