status of Savoy 1447

I just took a look at how my nice country was doing....hoping in vein it should prove that I would find a nice little peacefull country content with its possision in Europe...What did I find? A raging warmonster!!

Savoy is in war against:

-Kleves, Cologne, Britanny
-Castille, Portugal
-Munster, Hessen, Hannover, Wurtemburg
-Luxemburg, Hungary, Siebenbürgen, Austria, Croatia, Polen

Ahhhhh

Now from my brief look in the history log I dont think Savoy started any of these wars exept one against France...STUPID...:(

Yes, we have heard of your war-loving aggression. most uncivilized.

We were also more that a little concerned by Aragon's aggressive diplomacy as they vassalize Naples:p

Those dreaded Knights of Rhodes continued their killing of Muslims in Muslim lands. You will be glad to hear that more than one of their newly acquired subjects released themselve from that Christian yoke.

Ludovico: I'm impressed. You take on the Ottomans with the Knights and win 6 territories! Remind me not to get you mad at little Naples.:D

Raul The Runt: Algiers may be the dark horse in this race but I think there is real potential for greatness with them. Hitting Portugal early is a smart move as you found out. Aragon has made a vassal of Naples again? I'm going to have to do something about that when my turn comes around. Something unpleasant is going to happen to Aragon.;)

Now who will Backpack take?

It is truly heartening to know that Islam has a champion to protect it from continued aggression by the infidel Christian dogs in this game. May Allah smite your enemies, and smite them good. :)

Tunisia 1447-1454

January 1447

Aruj,

I am thrilled to hear of your exploits in Al Djazair. Sacking the Portuguese capitol was brilliant. Tell me, were the women friendly to their conquerors? I wish I could have been there with you…like in the old days.

I have accepted a commission from the Sultan of Tunisia. The Sultan must be very wealthy for he has hired myself and seven other corsairs[commissioned 2 sets of privateers] to plunder the waters around Rhodes. The Christian dogs refer to us as pirates. He promises to replace my ships with fresh commissions as needed. We will disrupt The Knights efforts to ferry troops from Rhodes to the mainland and prevent them from stopping the revolts there. The Sultan is very concerned that The Knights will expand southward and block our access to the Arabian peninsula. He has instructed me to meet in secrecy with their leader and negotiate a mutually agreed upon border. I do not trust these Christians…but…I will do as the Sultan commands. Once we have made our point, I will propose a peaceful coexistence that sees The Knights taking Samria, Syria, and everything to the north and east. Tunisia would be left with Judea, Sinai, Jordan and territories to the south. We will see what the response is.

Your little…but much better looking brother,

Hizir Barbarossa

August 1449

Aruj,

The Sultan is very pleased with my work to date. We have plundered many of The Knights vessels and their government has collapsed as rebellions rage throughout their lands. Still I have not received a response from their leader. I would like to continue our harassment but have been called away to battle the Mameluks. They are fierce fighters with many troops and our war against them promises to be long and hard. Al Djazair has graciously offered to join Tunisia in this war. The Sultan sent a state gift to ensure good relations between our two countries. I think that was a good idea. However, everyone in Tunisia was very surprised when Al Djazair offered to make us their vassals. The Sultan really got a good laugh out of that one.

From the shores of Alexandria,

Hizir

October 1552

Well my brother the war with the Mameluks is now finished. Tunisia has taken Cyrenica, Quattara, and Alexandria from those crazy Shiites. Not too much news of the world reaches us here. Here are a few of the things that I heard though:

Naples received 50 ducats from France for peace.
Savoy lost everything except Savoie and Franche Comte to Castile.
The Knights have had more troubles.

Yours,

Hizir

January 1454

Aruj,

I am bound for Rhodes again. The Sultan has funded corsairs to raid shipping from Iona to Cyprus. Perhaps this time The Knights will be more agreeable. Smyrna and Konya are held by rebels and my fleet has them pinned down. We will see what they say. The Sultan assures me that all he wishes for is peaceful coexistence…but….he felt that he had to demonstrate our capabilities after some of the hostile actions and words that were flowing out of Rhodes.

From the deck of The Raptor,

Hizir Barbarossa

OOC: I chose to take 2 DP clicks and an extra 150 cash at the outset. Hopefully no one will be smitten with a desire to take our lands.;) oh...and...Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum! I might have to start wearing an eye patch when I play my turns.:D

After bullying the world as a France and tearing Castile/Spain apart....you shall be reincarnated as Savoy.....and lose all your provinces to Castile/Spain....ah ha ha ha...:D

I was pretty surprised when it happened....had my hands full of Mameluks and their high shiite morale...so...wasn't looking around in Europe. I did after that though.;) Hit pause...and...thought "whoa! boehm is gonna be upset."

If anyone is interested in more info on the Barbarossa brothers Aruj and Hizir, this webiste is pretty good:

Well...I had been planning to annex Roma and convert it to islam (just kidding)...but...after I saw that crushing first round from The Knights and some of the "for the one true faith" and "heathens" comments coming out of Rhodes (did those apply to Tunisia too I wondered?)...I was a little afraid what would happen if they went unchecked and we weren't able to develop a mutual respect. Hopefully peace will reign...or....perhaps even cooperation against the nasty Mameluks.;)

Edit: BTW, for this game VP's mean nothing to me and I am not interested in conquest in Europe...other than against the villianous Spaniards and Portugese.;) I will hopefully be expanding in the arab lands and eventually colonizing.

I agree that victory points are at the bottom of my list right now. Survival is number one at this time especially with Aragon continually trying to Annex me (Naples). Which reminds me. Ludovico are you going to edit out the event where Aragon annexes Naples? I don't know if its scripted or not but someone said it was. Can you check on it? I hope you two reach a peaceful agreement to your difficulties.:)

Joe,

I checked. They don't get annexed. Aragon just gets to vassalize them...and....uhhh....the event already happened.:(

Perhaps Ludovico could remove the vassalization and drop your relations some with the other countries....since if you don't get vassalized, you shouldn't get the free +100 to +150 boosts with everyone either.

Description: During Queen Joanna I of Naples reign began the struggle for succession between Charles of Durazzo (later Charles III of Naples) and Louis of Anjou (Louis I of Naples). The struggle was continued by their heirs. Charles's descendants, Lancelot and Joanna II, successfully defended their thrones despite papal support of their French rivals, but Joanna successively adopted as her heir Alfonso V of Aragón and Louis III and René of Anjou, and the dynastic struggle was prolonged. Alfonso defeated René and in 1442 was invested with Naples by the pope.

I also get vassalized (with Choice A), when I get malta. I don't think that is a problem (vassalization), is it? And, for the record, I consider Malta one of my provinces. I should hope no one would go after them, I'd take it as a hostile offense.

I don't think it’s a problem being vassalized. Just break it when your turn comes. Hey, I was eyeing Malta. It looks like a good summer vacation spot. :D Well all right I'll make the sacrifice and not take it. ;) That means you keep out of Sicily. :D

Backpack you sly dog. :D I just figured out what you did to poor Ludovico. You commissioned pirates near Rhodes, which his navy this early in the game couldn't hope to beat. Very devious indeed. :D I'm a little slow sometimes but I eventually get it. :p
